Battle of Kosovo wasn't last stand.. Serbia continued to exist for almost a century after that ( as a despotate, not as a kingdom ) and if Turks were ever threatened it was battle of Maritsa, Serbia had biggest christian army at the time but Ottomans killed Serbs in sleep, such a brave people :P

I'm Serbian and i'm proud that some band from Sweden made song about our darkest hours ,while defending our beautiful capital city! ok,it's not "some band" , it's Sabaton..... The Great war was tragic for Serbia,because we lost 1/3 of male population and around 1 million people was dead at the end. We were victorious ,but that was bitter victory,because we lost to many people. My grand,grand father was one of the soldiers who survive Albania and Thessaloniki front !
One historical curiosity: Аfter the battle for Belgrade ended the commanding officer of German Army, Field Marshal August Von Machensen, impressed by the bravery of Serbian defenders ordered all of their remains be transported with highest respect to a burial place where they buried them with greatest honors. On top of a mass grave, the Germans erected a monument with letters in serbian and german - HERE LIES SERBIAN SOLDIERS. It is such a rare thing that a victorious army builds monuments to a defeated enemy.

Decades of systemic degradation have been coated with strong nationalism by leading politicians. Ever since Milosevic, Serbia is labelled as a genocidal usurper. Instead of making things right, dealing with the past for the benefit of the future generations by working together on reconciliation within the Balkans, leaders and academics are doing everything to drag the nation(s) further from that cause. It's difficult to be proud of historical heritage when decent human beings in Serbia don't have a chance nor guidance how to deal with the collective guilt of the more recent conflicts.

Brat od mog čukundede je završio na Italijanskom frontu jer je AU komanda shvatila da će Srbi, Česi, Slovaci, pa i Hrvati masovno dezertirati ako ih se pošalje na Istočni front, što su na kraju krajeva i radili. U Odesi je čak obrazovana južnoslovenska jedinica u sastavu ruske vojske. Ne kažem sad ni da nije bilo Hrvata koji su pošli u vojsku iz nekog osjećaja lojalnosti prema Austrougarskoj, ali vjerujem da ne griješim kad kažem da ih većina nije svojevoljno pošla u rat. It kinda overwhelms me that there are so many stories of men staying strong dispite overwhelming odds during war and that I have no way to honor their braver except never forgetting about them
The worst part is, no one will ever hear most of those stories unless they are in direct contact with them, or stumble upon them like many do with Sabaton.
And then, despite the casualties, the madlads made a charge so furious throughout the Balkan peninsula that our "allies" sent telegrams to complain that we're advancing too fast.
Battle for Belgrade was part of a much wider operation against Kingdom of Serbia.Austro-Hungary failed three times to brake Serbia and finnaly,they called Germany and Bulgaria on their side.Serbia was fighting on three fronts.Bulgarians from the east, AU from the west and Germany from the north.Serbian army was almost 400 000 strong against almost 1.5 million.Outnambered and outguned, Serbia managed to establish fallback line in Kosovo and Metohija thanks to Belgarde regiment in 1915.That regiment was sacrificed to give time to the retreating Serbian army to consolidate.It was an epic battle to the last man standing.German field marshal fon Machensen erected a monument to brave Serbian soldiers after the battle.Serbia never capitulated.Three years later ,in 1918, Serbian army broke Thesaloniki front and liberated all of Serbia, Croatia,Slovenia, Bosnia,Montenegro, Macedonia creating Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Serbia had almost 4.5 million people in 1914 and by the end of the 1918 only 3.1 survived the WW1.It was a national disaster.Glory payed by extremly heavy price...400 000 soldiers in 1914. and only 68 000 in 1918.Sad... 😓😢

Great Grandfather Zivojin Ilic passed away on January 21st on Corfu. His son fought in WW 2, his grandsons in the 90s. God willing we, his great grandsons have not had to yet, heres hoping we never do, but if it ever comes to it he can rest easy knowing that we remember, his sacrifice, and the wov they left us with. Scottish women who volunteered in Serbia during World War One are being commemorated in a series of stamps.
The British Embassy has teamed up with Serbia Post to celebrate the efforts of the Scottish heroines.
Five women who worked as doctors, nurses and drivers feature on the new stamps.
A sixth English woman, Captain Flora Sandes, who was the only British female to bear arms during WW1, is also being remembered.
The five Scots are:
Evelina Haverfield - British suffragette and humanitarian worker. She was the chief administrator of Scottish Women Hospitals in Serbia and set up one of the first local orphanages.Dr Elsie Inglis - campaigner for women's suffrage and the founder of the Scottish Women Hospitals in Serbia. Dr Inglis was one of the first female graduates at the University of Edinburgh.Dr Elizabeth Ross - one of the first women to obtain a medical degree at the University of Glasgow. She travelled to Serbia as a volunteer and tragically passed away during the typhoid epidemic in 1915.Dr Katherine MacPhail OBE - involved in humanitarian work in Serbia throughout WW1. She is remembered for opening the first paediatric ward in Belgrade in 1921.Dr Isabel Emslie Galloway Hutton - joined the Scottish Women Hospitals as a volunteer in 1915 after she was turned away by the War Office in London. She served in France, Greece and Serbia until 1920.

Battle of Kosovo wasn't last stand.. Serbia continued to exist for almost a century after that ( as a despotate, not as a kingdom ) and if Turks were ever threatened it was battle of Maritsa, Serbia had biggest christian army at the time but Ottomans killed Serbs in sleep, such a brave people :P

ordered all of their remains be transported with highest respect to a burial place where they buried them with greatest honors.
On top of a mass grave, the Germans erected a monument with letters in serbian and german - HERE LIES SERBIAN SOLDIERS.
It is such a rare thing that a victorious army builds monuments to a defeated enemy.

Decades of systemic degradation have been coated with strong nationalism by leading politicians. Ever since Milosevic, Serbia is labelled as a genocidal usurper. Instead of making things right, dealing with the past for the benefit of the future generations by working together on reconciliation within the Balkans, leaders and academics are doing everything to drag the nation(s) further from that cause. It's difficult to be proud of historical heritage when decent human beings in Serbia don't have a chance nor guidance how to deal with the collective guilt of the more recent conflicts.

Jebiga brate, ja sam iz Bosne i pouzdano ti mogu reći da se i nemali broj bosanskih, krajiških i vojvođanskih Srba borio u austrougarskoj vojsci jer su bili mobilizovani i primorani. Čisto sumnjam da su slovenski narodi jedva dočekali da ih se mobiliše. Ko je mogao, dezertirao je. Brat od mog čukundede je završio na Italijanskom frontu jer je AU komanda shvatila da će Srbi, Česi, Slovaci, pa i Hrvati masovno dezertirati ako ih se pošalje na Istočni front, što su na kraju krajeva i radili. U Odesi je čak obrazovana južnoslovenska jedinica u sastavu ruske vojske. Ne kažem sad ni da nije bilo Hrvata koji su pošli u vojsku iz nekog osjećaja lojalnosti prema Austrougarskoj, ali vjerujem da ne griješim kad kažem da ih većina nije svojevoljno pošla u rat. Zato ne treba suditi, bilo je kako je bilo zbog sile prilika.

It kinda overwhelms me that there are so many stories of men staying strong dispite overwhelming odds during war and that I have no way to honor their braver except never forgetting about them
The worst part is, no one will ever hear most of those stories unless they are in direct contact with them, or stumble upon them like many do with Sabaton.
And then, despite the casualties, the madlads made a charge so furious throughout the Balkan peninsula that our "allies" sent telegrams to complain that we're advancing too fast.
Yea we outran them by about 200km

Battle for Belgrade was part of a much wider operation against Kingdom of Serbia.Austro-Hungary failed three times to brake Serbia and finnaly,they called Germany and Bulgaria on their side.Serbia was fighting on three fronts.Bulgarians from the east, AU from the west and Germany from the north.Serbian army was almost 400 000 strong against almost 1.5 million.Outnambered and outguned, Serbia managed to establish fallback line in Kosovo and Metohija thanks to Belgarde regiment in 1915.That regiment was sacrificed to give time to the retreating Serbian army to consolidate.It was an epic battle to the last man standing.German field marshal fon Machensen erected a monument to brave Serbian soldiers after the battle.Serbia never capitulated.Three years later ,in 1918, Serbian army broke Thesaloniki front and liberated all of Serbia, Croatia,Slovenia, Bosnia,Montenegro, Macedonia creating Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
Serbia had almost 4.5 million people in 1914 and by the end of the 1918 only 3.1 survived the WW1.It was a national disaster.Glory payed by extremly heavy price...400 000 soldiers in 1914. and only 68 000 in 1918.Sad... 😓😢

Great Grandfather Zivojin Ilic passed away on January 21st on Corfu. His son fought in WW 2, his grandsons in the 90s. God willing we, his great grandsons have not had to yet, heres hoping we never do, but if it ever comes to it he can rest easy knowing that we remember, his sacrifice, and the wov they left us with. Freedom or Death.

I was talking more about how they were occupied durong the war and how they lost a rather big percentage of their total population

@@ludwiglian597 we did. We lost like 60% of our male population. But fuck all, we drove the enemy out. Even while facing extinction we lead the charge.
