- Ok, so you'll see that this lesson has a rather unexpected ending. I started out teaching you how to get your hands working in a swinging sync... and somehow started teaching you how to write your own songs! I love you guys and really want to see you playing your own music someday.

Known as the King of the Cigar Box Guitar, Shane Speal is universally recognized as the prime mover of the Cigar Box Guitar cult, a man who has made it his life’s crusade to spread the word and promote the popularity of CBGs. - Premier Guitar Magazine
I'll say it again, these are the BEST beginner lessons out there. And they're not just for beginners. These are the breakthrough lessons, tips and ideas for anyone stuck in playing they're instrument at a certain level where they can't seem to progress (like me.) These lessons help get you out of your head, out of the mechanical process you've probably been trying to follow to improve and brings it right into, as Shane says, your spine.
Great lesson Shane! I'm feeling it man. I almost broke into the stray cat shuffle. Meow
my nephew got me started building guitars for him then I started watching shanes videos and was inspired to learn how to play myself.
Back to watching old videos missing Shane’s basic lessons
Thanks Shane! When you first started playing I thought it was Stray Cat Strut! Wouldn’t take much to turn it into Stray Cat Strut. I always learn something new every time I watch one of your videos!
Me too!!!
I built my own guitar about 10 years ago and just brought it out today, so perfect timing.
Great lesson. Learning to pick that low string during the strum really opens up the possibilities! Thanks
Oh happy day, another awesome lesson!!!!
Hey Shane, Chuck McCoy here from Eastern Kentucky, just saying thanks for your time spent adding content. Just in the last few years I've picked up the woodworking hobby to prepare me for my retirement. I'm constantly watching the Makers channels on UA-cam for new ideas, which brought me to the cigar box guitar 🎸. Now I'm thirsty to create my own. Thanks to the people like yourself, we have paved paths for a fulfilling life.
This is basically the same as the Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats. Which is actually in the Key of Cm . When you play starting on the 5th fret that is C 5 or C power chord. The C5 works as a replacement for the Cm7 chord in the Stray Cats song. So did Stray Cats borrow it from Hit the Road Jack? Maybe.
Thanks Shane - another great lesson! Not quite as easy as you make it look but practice, practice, practice🎸
Fantastic lesson. Can’t wait to get this swing down.
Music comes from the ❤,this you shows us in ervry lesson .Thank you very much...
Thanks from the uk Shane 😊 love your playing and enthusiasm for all things 3 stringed 👌
Great lessons, Shane! I learned to build from Del Puckett, and I'm really digging the Blues U. I will be ordering your book soon. Cheers!
Very good lesson. I am a song writer and this lesson impressed me. PS. That hit the Road Jack reminded me of the intro to Stray Cat Strut.
These lessons have definitely put on the right track. They are super easy to follow and they make playing my CBG enjoyable. Keep up the great work Shane this is awesome.
Thank you again cbg guru! After that SlowRide lesson, I feel I got a grip on this. This lesson is even better 👍
" If you're bobbing your head you are doing it right ". Aye - that's a lesson I've said to many others . . .
Every one of these lessons makes me want to grab my guitar... and I usually do! So long, honey-do list and hello good times! Thanks, Shane. Great stuff!
Great lesson....well done ✌🤠👍
Stray Cats-ish ,,,,, very cool. Thanks Shane
Exactly Stray Cat Strut.
Thanks Shane another great rhythm lesson.
Thank you Shane! Another great lesson please keep them coming!
Encore une très bonne leçon, j'apprend très vite avec vous. 👍👍👍
Thank
Always enjoy your videos these years, Shane. And this series is really productive and helpful (and enjoyable).
Thanks Shane. It's amazing how much fun you can have with just a few basics. Love your vids. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks Shane! Enjoy your inspiration through your videos and your ability to slow it down for us. By the way, just ordered a couple of your slides😁
I write the lyrics and then "try" to add the music! LOL Thanks, Shane! 🙂
Great lesson, I am catching up on all of your videos
Great attitude, love it. Thanks
Thank you Shane!
Another great lesson, thank you
Inspiring as always
Love this video. Thanks so much for making and uploading all your great videos.
My pleasure!
i never aspired to writing own songs (not saying i am not gonna try some nice day), but must say .. lesson was great. Nicely composed, nicely explained with details exactly where needed. Thank you. Great job
Thank you, Peter!
Wow, great video 👍🏼
The riff also works for "stray cat strut"
Great lesson 😁👍
Great video 👍
Hey going good another lesson😎
Excellent
It is on the 2 and 4 beat that comes down harder on those 3 strings.
Awesome thank you
Sounds more like Stray Cats than Ray Charles to me. Thanks for sharing.
thank you for great tip
thanks man
Spending more time on the picking hand helps.
Shane,I have been noodling around sll day and my wife told me to "hit the road ".I am in the basement now. Thank you anyway.
I got a tattoo of you in twenty nineteen...
Not on my shoulder or calf but in between. My wife asked "who's that? "
I said "he's the King "
She said "he doesn't look like Elvis. "
@Shane Speal
I said, "that's the king Shane Speal,
He's the real deal!
He's got the Stubby Slide
He knows that Slow Ride "
She said "still doesn't look like Elvis "
...and now I am told I can get my dinner from the garbage can. 🍽 🗑🚮
@@johnwashburn3793 “I don’t know who the twins are, but the guy in the middle looks like Willie Nelson.” -answer to an old dirty joke. Google it…
Who are the two fun crushers who disliked this fantastic lesson?
Same ones that downvote every vid I post. LOL
Why not submit our songs? Another awesome lesson.
Yea play boogie woogie on 3 string slide?
I have learnt a awesome fingerprinting version...but not sure how to make a song out of it...could you please do a follow up of a song you have done with it
Yes, I intend on developing a songwriting series of videos
👍🤘
Can't go wrong with Ray Charles. Thank you.
I'm trying it on my 1 string, but when I grow a pair, I'll be man enough to buy & play a 3-string (Ed: Did somebody say "G-string?")🙊
I haven't recorded myself playing this a song I did (yet). I saw Jamie McPherson (ua-cam.com/channels/7vfb3P629osgU_EMef-ntQ.html) playing "I'm bad like Jesse James" and decided to learn the riff and write new lyrics for a song call "They call me the Wolf". I have the nickname at work as "The Wolf" (Pulp Fiction) because I know how to get things done.
Question.. I've been looking through good selection of your videos & didn't realise my UA-cam on my TV wasn't subscribed.. anyway what Pic do u suggest.. ones I have seem very hard & clacky on the strings.. I've a pair of 1 string & a 4 string diddly & in process of making a 3 string.. still learning but think my pic what's throwing me off... help... I've got 0.8 1.0 1.8 2.0mm pics..
Try a Fender medium to start. It’s all about YOU! Which makes your playing comfortable?
@@ShaneSpeal Cheers Shane only thing I seem to have an issue with is Grip.. I found another pic last night with mini dimples in it & it's alot better I was fed up of it slipping out of my fingers & the others I have are just too thick & make a crap clack sound.. I'm waiting for my mini Amp to arrive so maybe sound better amped up.. building a 3string with help from 1 of your videos coming along good just waiting on pickup etc...
@@Blackbeard-1980 Both Les Paul and Eddie Van Halen had the same problem and they would glue pieces of sandpaper to their picks
@@ShaneSpeal that's an epic idea!!!
Thank you Shane !
Sam.
