Glad you had an awesome time on Maggie & got to see koalas. Did you get the opportunity to visit the koala hospital over there? I live in TSV but only go across to Maggie every couple of years or so. It's awesome to see it through tourists eyes! The snake was most probably a Death Adder, they are small, quick & everywhere on the island or possibly a Red Belly Black or Whip Snake.
Hi Madison, there are actually several locations in Australia where it is relatively easy to see Koalas in the wild. Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia, has a dense Koala population, as does Phillip Island, near Melbourne, and it is fairly easy to see them in a number of national parks on the north coast of New South Wales, including the Myall Lakes National Park, near the town of Hawks Nest.
The only problem is the humidity. You sweat and sweat and it rains. This time of year it is great. Went to a beach in Queensland but was not able to go in the water due to the jellyfish.
Ahhhhh this makes sense. The weather was absolutely PERFECT when we were there, but we were wearing sleeveless clothing in the peak of winter 😂. The beaches seemed to all be open too, so stingers must have been better 🪼. Maybe I need to change it to Australia's Most Underrated WINTER* Destination haha.
The views were so stunning! I wish we had more time on the island to just sit and enjoy them. Very glad that partnership protected and preserved this beautiful country and it's people :)
What makes you say "seeing koalas in the wild can't be done"?Perhaps that is the case in cities but definitely not in the country .Especially further south
For sure! I said "I was TOLD seeing koalas in the wild can't be done" (I knew it was possible thanks to the magic of the world wide web). A lot of people I know that are Australian or have lived in Australia told me that it wasn't really possible. These friends are mostly from cities in QLD, NSW, and NT and I think they were probably just basing it on personal experience and the fact that they've never seen them. The one friend that told me I could see them said to go to Frasier Island (which according to google does NOT have wild koalas lol). I think I just need to make more useful friends 😂. I met several Aussies while we were traveling that had been to Maggie and had no idea there were wild koalas there! Very glad I trusted the internet on this one though haha, Magnetic Island is such a piece of paradise! 🏝️

I see koala's all the time in eastern suburbs of Adelaide, sometimes in my front yard. You helped me realise it is special.

Just so you know, Koalas are very soft. You almost want to use them as a pillow.
