We begin by taking a Grab from Da Nang to Hoi An. Our hotel, Paddy House Boutique has free bikes for guests, so after checking in we take a bike into town with plans of visiting historic sights and tailor shops, BUT the heat has other ideas. After almost passing out from the heat. A lot of businesses in town don't have a/c, but after extensive searching we find Hoi An Roastery, one of the most popular coffee shops in town that MORE IMPORTANTLY has an Air Conditioner on the second floor. After cooling off with a coconut there, we head to Morning Glory for some local specialties!
At Morning Glory we try Cau Lau and White Rose Dumplings, two dishes specific to Hoi An that are absolutely delicious!
Next we visit the Precious Heritage Museum where we admire the work of photographer Rehahn, who traveled the country to the most remote villages of Vietnam to capture photography of their residents that is now displayed along with the traditional clothing of each village. It is such a cool place to take in the diversity of the country while also appreciating that we are all the same in the way he smiled and laughed with people in languages he couldn't understand.
We headed to Jenny 09 to get a Tailor Made dress started, explored the historic sights and Japanese bridge, then visit Mot, and incredible herbal tea shop that is definitely worth the hype, and then, at last, the lanterns are beginning to be lit! It is time for the lantern festival. On the 14th day of every lunar month, the regular lights in town are turned off and only paper lanterns light the city. You just have to google "when is the lantern festival" to find out when the 14th day is haha. But EVERY NIGHT is the boat lantern festival where you ride lit boats and release paper lanterns, releasing your troubles with it and embracing new beginnings.
After a beautiful wake up at Paddy House Boutique and a quick room tour, we bike to get coconut coffee and breakfast at Roving Chillhouse! Surrounded by rice paddies, it is such a beautiful way to start the day! Next we bike to town for my first fitting with the tailor, BUT it is so hot we actually have to stop on the way for another drink at a cafe. After the fitting, we head back to the hotel for our tour!
This tour teaches you about farming, you ride water buffaloes, plow a field, plant rice, harvest peanuts. We visit a shrimp farm made with craters form the war. We ride basket boats down the river, and learned their history. Went crab fishing. Danced to gangham style. learned to "cheers" in Vietnamese. Went to a cooking class where we made rice milk and Banh Xeo, and so much more! Mr. Cu was such an incredible guide, and we had the best time!

Hey how cool! We're from Texas too! The Houston area, so we definitely know those muggy summers haha! The big difference is at home we can always find AC when we need it, but here most places don't have it!
