Man that fathead on the heavy GTR.. nice And the R-10 on the clean gtr was nice, think i might have to get the R-10 just for that reason. Best of both. Thanks for the video.
All other things equal, the active ribbons had a much more pronounced upper midrange... I don't think that is what I would be going for with a ribbon mic generally, but I definitely think there is an application for that sound. With the high gain guitars, I though the Cascade and the AEA stole the show. I don't know if you still have all of these mics, but it would be awesome to try them out on some acoustic sources... guitar, piano, even vocals. Great vid!
I find it helps a lot if you have musicians that can play their instruments - that has far more effect on the outcome than the mic choice. In this case you had some great mic choices, but the guitarist is horrendous.
Did you have the mics in the same positions when you went from one mic to the other? also how far were the mics from the cab(ballpark)? were they closer on the milkman?
right, but all different speakers! Close enough I guess, but you probably know each speaker in a 4x12 can sound very different! Not being a dick, just saying lol.
Also, Thanks for the reply! I like your studio, You've got some killer stuff! Im considering a pair of ribbons so this definitely helped! I liked the Royer! You can really see in a situation where you have the mics that close where the reduced proximity effect of the foyer and AEA really come into play!
Nice video 👍 fathead really sound great
Always loved the fathead. The SE Voodoo's extended top end is also really pretty.
Subbed!
Hey that's a great video! So glad to see you go through such a wide range of gain.

I made my decision from this video. I’m all in on the fathead. I just bought the active passive version too. What the hell, go big!

At 18 seconds in you can see a picture of the cab that was used and how the mics were arranged.. the mics were in the same position for every clip.
