Same VM Motori V6 (A 630/EcoDiesel/L630) that's used in the current Grand Cherokee with minor differences. Internally the same engine though, they're a great engine IF you service them frequently.
yes same one exactly just had some tweaks to make it sound better haha
@@RossReviewsau Different exhaust, injectors, glow plugs, and hotter tune. All of which are interchangeable on the Grand Cherokee lol. Imagine if they had 200kw/600nm over 182kw/570nm 😂😂

I've got an 05 VZ SS 6 speed, cammed with a TVS 2300 magna charger @9psi running a stock (tuned) ecu.

This is a huge limousine. On the video it looks compact but in real it's like an s class. That means heavy and not a sporty ride in the bends

Yeah mate a weird combo alright hey, but she seems to go pretty well,it should be called a Maserati Sooty lol,the outside looks a little bit like a Stinger too I reckon,great vid thanks Johnny.

It's a genuine pity that Maserati didn't invest that bit more in the quality of the Ghibli as it could have been truly special. As it is, the 640d is much better built, much faster, and arguably more beautiful.
It really is a shame they cheaped out on the interior because it could have been something really amazing your right!

The outside looks beautiful, but the interior is a letdown for a car more expensive than a BMW or Merc...
it definitely needs to be better on the inside.. agree tho looks quite good on the exterior

It was in fact a totally outsourced unit, developed and built by an independent italian firm - VM Motori, specifically for the Maserati's lineup, with its direct European competitors in mind, 100% focused onto the Euromarket , where 50% of the premium 4 doors, mid/fullsize saloons and Suvs market is made by 2.0/3.0L diesels.
Yes, different versions of this unit are mounted on Jeeps and other Fca models as well.

Ok, this is my daily driver for three years now, so yes, I am biased…. But honoustly? This is a good review! Some remarks: yes, the gear lever is clumsy, they fixed that (and a lot more) in model 2017 and up. You DO have heated seats: it’s in the menu on the touch screen…. The indicator in that car must be broken: it should not move like that. The leather used in the car is of better quality than in my previous Audi’s and BMW’s. The engine is NOT made by Chrysler, but by VM Motori from Italy. This company was owned partially by GM up until 2012. Now it’s owned by Fiat. And yeas, Ferarri did interfere with the engine for the Ghibli. Yes, this engine is used by other brands, but this is the A630HP-version, only used by Maserati….
The gearbox is the 8HP70 by ZF, also used by BMW, Landrover, Aston Martin etc. It can handle torque to 700+Nm. It’s flawless. The Ghibli diesel can be tuned to up to 330hp/720(!)Nm…. It’s been done by Squadra, a famous car tuner in Holland.

No. It's a VM engine, no Mercedes.
Way too expensive for what you end up with. Maserati really cut corner by diving in the FCA parts bin to excess. Just way to much money for that Ghibli
the parts bin is what kills this for me.. the indicator was so cheap :( RIP i love the shape tho just wish it was more premium inside

Who on earth buys a Maserati sedan with a diesel engine? Surely you only buy a Ghibli because you can't afford a Quattroporte V8. And if you then can't afford the twin turbo petrol V6 Ghibli, then why are you buying a Maserati at all? I guess you could hang out with the other three people who bought a 4 cylinder Mustang. If you're spending $140k and want an Italian car and don't buy an Alfa Giulia QV you really need to start querying your life choices.

Diesel saving the environment is a myth... Diesel pollutes much more than petrol and imagine straight piping a diesel!
