  • I have been doing the Blacker leg indent detail for many years. I gave it that name a couple of decades ago.
In this video I will cover the basic use of the jig I use to create the ramp-in effect. To fine tune the shape, I am experimenting with the Klingspor MacMop. Stay tuned for future videos…. As I perfect the use of the Mac Mop things may change. I am still learning how to use the Mac Mop - if you have experience with it - please share in the comments below.
For a more detailed look at this detail and how to produce it - see my 1st book: Greene and Greene :Design Elements for the Workshop

Hey...I really like your video. You said you made the jig on your CNC. Do you sell these jigs to the weekend hobbyist?

Hi Darrell, What is the name of the bench grinder that you can set your rmp? Mac mop seems to be the spindle sand wheels but not the machine it self.

Hi Kevin, The variable speed bench grinder is a Palmgren. I can't tell you the exact model because I am away from home at the moment. The variable speed comes in very handy when using the Mac mop.

Great video! How many books have you written? I currently find two books on amazon. In the Greene & Greene Style, and Design Elements for the Workshop. Which of these would you recommend reading first? Thanks for sharing.

In the Greene and Greene style is out of print . Design Elements for the Workshop. is still in print and covers the Blacker Indent . I have a third book ( on furniture design) that hopefully will be out in about a year.

Will be interesting to see if the part takes finish the same as hand-sanded to 220. Did you try the coarser grits for shaping?

I did try the courser grits. The place I had a problem was at the lower end of the routed ramp - if things are too aggressive it starts to blend the ramped area with that just below and I just want to ease the edge. I think its going to take some more experimenting to find the right balance between how much I do at the bench and how much with the sanding mop.

Is that a dust collection system behind the grinder?
