Your pricing is unbelievably reasonable, considering your experience and expertise!! As a wise UA-cam Animator, Andre Terbea once said “your time is valuable so put a price tag on it!”
I'd say maybe even too humble. He should consider selling that last piece for even more...he's been a professional artist for so long and he poured 450 hours of his hard work and talent into one masterpiece.
If he sells the piece for 100k, that's 220$ per hour. Seems quite generous, but considering a lot of us would quit within the first 20h, it's quite a reasonable offer.
of course its worth it. hell people pay millions of dollars for piece of crap "modern art" that consist of a guy throwing paint on a canvas with no skill at all
EDIT: These are just some small thoughts, so take them with a grain of salt. I think the thing about modern art is that its values are different from classical art/other types of art. Instead of technique being the main star (like in other types of art), hidden meaning, uniqueness, and deviance are highly valued in modern art. So it just depends on what you're looking for. If you value the values of modern art, then that seems more worth it for you. If vice versa, then pieces like James' are for you.
Perception and information is key. For instance, people thought Pollack's works were completely abstract and random until analyzed by computer a few decades ago; then they found that literally every one of his pieces were composed to exact fractal imagery, lol. In fact, fractal matching is one of the primary ways Pollack paintings are verified, now ;) Tl;DR - You have no idea what you are talking about, lmao.
to me that starwars piece should be going for atleast 500k , 100k is under selling it, still has to be the best and most detailed starwars piece every drawn
Josh K Fool he says that that has sentimental value which does not mean that somebody will pay what he wants for it. he totally lays out his prices on what he charges for his customers I am it’s nowhere near $250 an hour
I think it always depends on the circumstances! If you are rich as hell you should pay for it! If the kid's family is poor you should do it for free. Well. That would be kinda hard to know, if you are on a comic con or so
so many people don't realise how much time and patience you put into your art. As an artist myself it really sucks when people just assume it doesn't take any skill to produce art.
Over the years there’s always a rare, unique, highly talented, Uber detailed artist that comes along to shake things up. You sir are that artist! Keep up the good work 👍
I love the format of this video. I'm sure it brought in more people to your channel. It seems like click bait, but you stay true to who you are James and I love that.
$100,000 is very little for that artwork.. And a lot of rich guys would buy if you weren’t holding on to it I work at a fancy retailer, a necklace is made of yellow gold and diamonds is $100,000 you can do better than that

+keplar Do you honestly think this guy is gonna remember a comment he made at 16 years old? I'm sure you made promises to yourself in the past too but you're gonna say you haven't, and only because you don't remember. Only a handful of people have memory that good so it's perfectly logical to make the assumption that this random guy on the internet will completely forget the comment he felt on some random video on UA-cam.
@@bailey125 I'm not saying he's not gonna forget and hes gonna remember this 100% but maybe the guy is an idol for him and he will always remember him. low chance but possible xD
Some would argue that he's overcharging. Personally, I wouldn't pay so much when I could get something similar printed up for a few hundred bucks. In my opinion, he's charging around the right amount. $100k would make that piece more profitable than becoming a medical specialist.
The 'value' of art is what someone is willing to pay for the piece. As talented as this man is. He has no correlation to the series other than being a fan, perhaps if he had ties to the franchise as an art director or original designer, the value of his work would be far greater. $100k is steep but that's due to the sentimental value James puts on it, he doesn't want to sell it hence the inflated price to potentially pass it on. As impressive at it can be, fan art is treated entirely different to traditional art in the sense of monetary value. If I were James, I'd probably use a pseudonym and pivot myself into the gallery scene if he was more fiscally inclined. That's just my own thought though, when it comes down to it, he does it for the love and that's invaluable.
Awesome vid, James. Love the insight and the behind the scene shots of all your success. That Star Wars masterpiece is just something to behold...I can only imagine what it's like actually standing there looking at it. brother.. i love your art.. it feels like comic book artists are the unsung hero of "fine art" ...it evokes emotion, fantasy, reality.. i mean museums shoudl start having collections like these instead of art thats hardly in anybody's scope of understanding
His art classified as comic book art is very materialistic so like characters, poses costumes etc.. But modern art such as contemporary, so like the all-white canvases, shapes and more are bought for the emotions and thoughts the artist put into the artwork so if it's like all splashy it means following the artist's emotions the paints were arranged and so on.
You're probably not a sports fan. But, can you draw every MLB team in its own artwork? Like a Yankees art piece with Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth's called shot, Yankee Stadium their logo, etc. Then for Dodgers stuff like their logo, 42, Dodger Stadium, the Brooklyn logo, Kirk Gibson in '88, Mookie Betts catch against Braves, their World Series trophies, etc. Reds with Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, big red machine, logo, Riverfront, Votto, etc. Angels with Vlad, Pujols, Mike Trout, 2002, all their logos from Anaheim, LA, Cali, Angel Stadium etc.
You are such an inspiration to me! I started to draw and now, I’m selling artwork to classmates (I’m in 6th grade) for $10! I’m not as good as you, but it’s a start. Thank you!
You really are amazing. And very humble. I said this before that star wars should be in a museum or seen as a national treasure. Would love to meet you at a con one day.

No one can complain about these valuations. Personally, I feel your star wars drawing could fetch twice that or even more; It's not just about time spent, it's an accumulation of your entire lifes training! 7months, 400 hours, those are just numbers compared to your passion and dedication.
Damn, how the hell do you plan something like that lithograph or star wars mural out? Those pieces are massive, no idea where you'd start, and how you make sure each separate panel properly connects to the surrounding panels.
Thank you for posting this. I've thought of this lots. Really helps with how I can maybe price my stuff. I love everything you draw and I've thought about how long your Star Wars piece took you. Thank you so much for the info :)

You should add the clone wars and rebels to your Star Wars piece, if you have watched the shows.
I think I've found my idol in drawing. Dude I see you as my role model now in art🔥🔥🔥🔥
You put actuall skill and detail into it unlike some people, It's worth it
I just wanted to say that you're REALLY talented!!!
I would love to see something similar to your Star Wars Banner with the MCU characters featuring popular landscapes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe..
From Asgard to Wakanda
From New York to Xandar & Knowhere..
Whoa! Didn't realize you had a Big O piece! Watching now! :)
No one can complain about these valuations. Personally, I feel your star wars drawing could fetch twice that or even more; It's not just about time spent, it's an accumulation of your entire lifes training! 7months, 400 hours, those are just numbers compared to your passion and dedication.
DUDE! my 1st time here and WOW you got the skills! i can't believe the details! s many question so fascinating...
