So much neglect. My 2013 pilot still looks and smells brand new with 192,000 miles on it. If you take care of your vehicle it will definitely last. I have zero issues or complaints about mine. I absolutely love it.
M F thank you so much by the way little hint 😂 i said in video i believe that it is not my car just thought you should know but thank you for your input
2010 Pilot with over 265k miles. 1. Same problem with faux leather console and armrests. FYI: You can peel the outer layer back, leaving the cloth backing. Paint it with a couple of coats of spray paint, give it time to dry, and it buys you time and looks good. You can also disassemble them and replace with new cloth-backed vinyl. 2. Alternator quit a couple years ago. About three hours total for me to replace. Bought the serpentine belt, but did not change, as the motor mount on that side would have to be disconnected and motor lifted for clearance. 3, Replaced rear shocks when the vehicle began to fishtail at high speed after new tires installed. Much better after. 4. Intermittent A/C operation was due to a faulty relay under the hood. Easy fix. Look it up if you're having delayed cooling after activating A/C. 5. Adding engine oil is a pain: Take breather hose keepers out, swing breather hose out of the way. Use long funnel to reach oil fill hope, which is very difficult to leverage the oil cap off from. 6. Front passenger door refused to open halfway on my trip to Florida last week. What a pain to have to deal with. Bought a new locking mechanism but ultimately had to take to dealer for repair, as I cannot get the door open to replace it myself. I will probably pay the 62 bux and buy the driver's door latch while I can still get the door open. Very important to you 4WD owners: Do not EVER allow this car to be towed. It must be loaded on a flat trailer if towing becomes necessary. Front wheels on the ground will ruin transmission. Rear wheels on the ground will ruin rear diff assembly. Check your owner's manual in section on towing; it will say the same thing.
Looking into getting a 2011 with 96,000 kilometers the touring edition, anything I should look for in particular when I go look at it? How long did you own it, and overall has it been a reliable vehicle for you?
2012 Honda Pilot Touring with 195k miles. Here are some of the issues I ran into as well as some advice: 1. All leather interior. No issues with wear and tear. The only sign of any wear is on the middle console cover, but it's nowhere near as bad as the one in this video. 2. Rear differential fluid -- Change this often. I shoot for every 25-30k miles (book recommends every 30k). You can prob get away with every 35-40k. 3. Transmission fluid -- Change it every 40-50k miles, especially if you have AWD. Transmission repairs on AWD are exponentially higher than FWD. Don't neglect this! 4. Timing belt and spark plugs -- Change every 95-100k. Use OEM parts and change the water pump while you're in there (saves time/money) 5. The VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) -- This shuts off cylinders when ECO mode engages and can start to have issues after 150k miles. You'll notice oil running a quart or so low between oil changes. Might have an error code or check engine light. Get it reprogrammed at a dealer or consider disabling VCM with an aftermarket tuner. 6. Steering knock or clunk noise -- Hear this when turning the wheel across center traveling at low speeds. Started happening to me around 150k miles. There's a nut you can tighten at the base of the steering wheel shaft column to fix. Also consider applying some white lithium grease to that area. A respectable Honda dealership won't charge much to do this. 7. Rattle noise in the front when going over bumps -- Check the stabilizer links. When on a lift, tap with two fingers to diagnose. Recommend replacing both sides at 160-180k miles. 8. Low beam headlights stop working -- Light switch and wiring harness at the steering wheel is known to burn out on these. Mine went out at 190k miles. 9. Shocks and Struts -- Needed replaced at 160k miles on my Pilot Don't let these scare you away if you are considering buying one used. A lot of these issues will hit between 150-180k miles, but once you're past that hump, you're in good shape until the transmission needs rebuilt. Overall, these are extremely reliable SUVs!
Going to look at a 2012 Touring myself. 137k miles Water pump, Timing belt and Alternator was replaced. Didn’t see spark plugs tho. $15k price. Excellent history with Carfax. 1 owner. Would you?🧐
@@MrGeek847 $15k sounds a little high to me, but then again in today's market, maybe that's not so bad. 137k miles for a 2012 is pretty low. Should at least get another 30-40k miles before having to do suspension work. As for spark plugs, they must have been replaced by now, or it would be noticeably "missing" when idling. If you have any friends that are mechanics, see if one will check it out for you before buying. The 2012 Pilot Touring is a solid vehicle, and I'd buy it all over again...no regrets!

This gen also had the axle shudder issue. Usually you would notice a shudder sensation during hard acceleration. The front axles are the problem. Also the front fans will eventually go out either causing the ac to not work or an over heat problem at idle in traffic. If you have this vehicle or want to buy this vehicle get the VCMmuzzler so it stays out of VCM mode. When the computer shuts down the rear cylinders the problem is being caused because the oil builds up because there is no spark, or combustion. Other than that they are great cars, i own a 2011 EX-L

As a side note, my 2012 receives meticulous care and the interior pieces degraded like his. It seems the bear grease my wife slathers on, ruins the plastic. This weekend I am replacing the throttle position sensor. At 160m miles. I noticed it accelerating with les power when Storting from a stop. The fuel mileage in city driving suffered as well.
Did that help? I'm at 195k miles, and it definitely hesitates before accelerating from a complete stop. I've also noticed fuel mileage taking a hit. Barely gets 16 city / 22 hwy.

good job! presented without prejudice or derision. Matter of fact presentation style goes a long way. Very informative. Thinking of buying one. Helps with decision.
I had a problem with the cylinder cutout system where it would loose power and run rough, It would also cause cylinders to pump the oil out of the engine. I had checked oil after an oil change and within 100 miles the check engine light came on hand there was no oil on the dipstick. I bypassed that system with a microprocessor on the temp sensor meant to do just that. Cylinder 3 lost the igniter. I am going to suggest changing the plug whenever changing a coil. The car jack it came with won’t push the car up high enough to change the tire. I bought the one they use on An f150, that does it easily.
Some of the same problems with my 2012. Car is pushing 96,000 miles. Driver side arm rest and middle arm rest torn. Over the past two months replaced the cylinders, tensioner, timing belt, drive belt and alternator. Over $1800 worth of work done done at the dealership, some was covered under warranty.
I have a 2007 pilot. Not a 2nd gen but a first gen 173,000 miles. Only problem, it is on its 3rd alternator, 2nd alternator was garbage and only lasted a year. The paint job is bad too , some parts of the car is down to the clear coat(s) luckily no rust yet.
Wow, you found the angry OCD crowd on UA-cam with this one! I thought I had the dreaded misfire but new plugs fixed it. Replaced the coil on the dirtiest one for good measure but a VCM defeat from eBay was the best investment. I have a Short from a while ago on getting trans fluid in. What a pain! Performance rotors, pads, calipers, and plugs surpass OEM from Amazon and Rockauto.
so a couple of problems i run into with these, one the air duct on them for the intake that links the air filter to the throttle body breaks alot during the cold months , thus causing unmetered air not calculated by the MAF sensor and end up with lower power and misfires. second is the purge control valve, they fail all the time with a p0458 to pop up. when i see that code, it is 100 percent of the time the purge control valve. and last and most expensive is the misfire these things will have. it comes down to ultimately is the piston rings on cylinders 1-3 and sometimess 4 are fouling the spark plugs. honda did offer a warranty extension but is out of phase now. if you ever run into a misfire, take it to a honda dealership, i have seen honda take care of the whole bill or partially, just depends on the mood the person that is on the other line. never run into the piston rings sticking to the cylinder.
@@venessabaek9781 check the air intake hose. if it is not torn, pull and spark plug on the rear bank. if it is fouled, it will need piston rings. if you don't want to, try the dealership and have them diagnose it. you can call honda corporate and they might cover the repair.
I have a 2011 EX with 95k miles... that one is an EX-L. Cylinder misfire is common if driven on highway a lot as rear cylinders deactivate with VCM. I use full synthetic oil and 5 k oil changes and no problem. My cloth interior is aging great. Honda front rotors have been junk for years. All of my Honda’s/Acura’s had rotors resurfaced by 15k miles. My dealer finally started recommending aftermarket rotors. You forgot to mention the silent recall on the front compliance bushings (getting vibration in wheel no matter how many wheel balances). Great vehicle once you deal with the initial quality issues and if maintained well.
Jim What do you mean “silent recall” on the compliance bushings that I paid for out of my pocket in 2018 to the dealer I bought my new 2010 Honda Pilot from.
You should do a video on how to wreck your pilot in such a little time I have two 2014 pilots and both are mint condition one has 195000 kms on it other one has 156000 kms they drive great only time I raise the hood is to change the oil my car I use for work is a little dirty due to the job I do and I got the same colour interior other one has black interior I never had any problems except yes the air bag has been replaced at no cost to me however I don’t like the fact that Honda recommends changing the oil at 15000 kms I due it twice as much then they tell me I guess I’m particular about it love the car so far I’ve owned three of them first one was a 2011 all are fantastic in these Canadian winters I have no problems getting going at a stop light unless there’s a pickup in front holding me up just my thought on it pal but if you don’t look after any vehicles they won’t last
Only issue with mine is paint is peeling down to the metal in many areas. Figuring it’s a bonding issue. Called Honda but they were as helpful as a turd.
I have a 2011 with 73k miles. I have the same tears in my door arm rest and middle. Alternator died Saturday. Radio buttons would randomly stop working. Had to replace the front rotors at 30k.
Add to this video that the engine/transmission cooling design is flawed and after 100k is prone to failure when engine coolant mixes with transmission fluid, which results in the need for a full transmission replacement which can be way more than the value of the car. Honda is aware.
i have not seen this issue ever, but thanks for the heads up. been working on these models alot and never seen coolant and trans fluid mix. only way that would happen is if the cooler for the transmission cracked inside the radiator. that is the only place where the two systems meet.
I have the same problem with my car! The pistons went this pass March, the car stalled in the road they replaced all of it for free. Now July the alternator went out... I picked it up from the shop and the check engine light came on! My interior looks old just like yours it tearing apart. Really disappointed! Mine is a 2010.
Hickok 22 its not the lug nuts. It turns out that Honda has this problem spread across and the problem is hard braking. The front disc warps because the disc brakes aren’t the right diameter. We resolved it by buying ported brakes like they use on racing cars. It dissipates heat a lot better and we no longer have the shudder.
Hickok 22 yeah no problem. Although I think the proper name is performance brake rotors not ported brakes but they’re basically the brakes with drilled in holes and such.
Too late. Once the damage is done it's irreversible. Better luck next time. Insist that the tire people follow the right torque recommendation. Be there to watch them do it. Also, the drilled and slotted rotors might be better for this vehicle. I’ve been in the market for one of these 2010-2011 and noticed the issues with the console and door armrests are common...poorly manufactured and poor quality - seems to be common with most Honda’s as they age. Not enthusiastic about the mechanical issues you’ve cited and to see some comments indicate they’ve shared your issues too. Maybe will need to reconsider the 4Runner afterall.

I don't believe these people that say they have almost 200,000 miles and their cars are still like new or even still smell like new. Buncha liars. I bet if they actually did more than just paid places to service their cars and instead fixed crap themselves they would remember all the crap they had to fix. What no lower control arm leakage after 200,000 miles? yeah right. No door mode actuator knocking? No problems with the ECM fouling up the plugs? I highly doubt any honda can make it to 200,000 miles with just oil changes.
I have the same model for 5 years. My armrests don't look like that. Many vehicles have their own unique issues, though so far, the 2012 Pilot is not bad, just a few things here and there that may be an annoyance.

so a couple of problems i run into with these, one the air duct on them for the intake that links the air filter to the throttle body breaks alot during the cold months , thus causing unmetered air not calculated by the MAF sensor and end up with lower power and misfires. second is the purge control valve, they fail all the time with a p0458 to pop up. when i see that code, it is 100 percent of the time the purge control valve. and last and most expensive is the misfire these things will have. it comes down to ultimately is the piston rings on cylinders 1-3 and sometimess 4 are fouling the spark plugs. honda did offer a warranty extension but is out of phase now. if you ever run into a misfire, take it to a honda dealership, i have seen honda take care of the whole bill or partially, just depends on the mood the person that is on the other line. never run into the piston rings sticking to the cylinder.
I just got a misfire code on my 2015.. kinda freaking out here
@@venessabaek9781 check the air intake hose. if it is not torn, pull and spark plug on the rear bank. if it is fouled, it will need piston rings. if you don't want to, try the dealership and have them diagnose it.
you can call honda corporate and they might cover the repair.
Lol someone let you review their car and they didnt bother cleaning it out t
Cannot trust anything you say
Your car is a Pig Sty
I imagine you never change your oil
Apparently you didn’t what he was saying. He doesn’t own this car someone gave him the car to review.
My have 356 is working perfectly because
I have a 2011 EX with 95k miles... that one is an EX-L.
@@maggieg5719 yea wtf is a silent recall?? lol my bushings need done right this moment
White paint huh?
@@BrownDracula yes
I have a 3” spot on the rear side panel that bubbled and popped off. 2014 Grey. Expensive fix since they have to repaint the whole side.
2008 pilot 3.5 liter do have value cover gasket problem with 17600mile.
My 2009 Honda Pilot does leather shearing too
Nowadays most of the Japanese cars are made in USA and Canada and that is the problem.
I have a 2011 with 73k miles. I have the same tears in my door arm rest and middle. Alternator died Saturday. Radio buttons would randomly stop working. Had to replace the front rotors at 30k.
Does your pilot consume a lot of oil?
Dude clean that center console
I stopped watching when he said that the 2WD model is not 4WD and therefore is not so good in snow .... I guess that’s Honda’s fault
Amazon has good quality leather replacement kits cheap...easy install.
You just described 90% of the problems on my pilot. Now I know what that shudder is when I brake. Maybe I should loosen up the lugs a bit.
@@its.thaniel thanks! I will remember ported brakes next time I change them out.
Check Amazon for PowerStop kits. such as
www.amazon.com/K5369-Evolution-Drilled-Slotted-Ceramic/dp/B00AN5S1BW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1546549136&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=Power+Stop+K5369+Front+and+Rear+Z23&psc=1
It’s not the lug nuts. All Honda front rotors warp. My wife and I have owned eight of them. Get aftermarket. The pads are fine.
LOL. OMG I'm crying. I love at 4:54 when he lifts up the center console the amount of leaflets are just haphazardly thrown in there, then he closes it when it's obvious a leaflet is covering the latch but a good pounding should do it. LOL My car is similar but not this bad cripes!
Clean out your car!!!!
Rotors are warped!.. that’s called “brake pulsation”, replace rotors.
:)
Did you say over tighten of the lugs caused warped rotors? Lmfao I have a 2012 and no known problems like yours
Warped rotors is from excessive wear and heat.
Helpful thank you.
Just to let everyone know I am reviewing this for someone this is not my vehicle.
How can you say you are reviewing this for someone and you keep on saying "WE and I" when speaking .. this is YOUR vehicle.
You're totally full of crap. This is YOUR car and you just don't take care of it
This is some woman's car . Not his
Keep camera still, please...................
My 2004 260,000 mile Pilot is fine, they just dont take care of it. If you care about your car, your fine.
@@bodiejarvis That's a different generation of Pilot.
Nikko Wood its common sense that if we didnt take care of it it wouldnt be here. Same with all cars
@@bodiejarvis Yeah but certain cars will be more likely to have certain issues. You can't really just blame every issue on the owner. I do agree that people would have a lot less issues if they took care of their vehicles, but certain issues are unavoidable for certain cars
@@bodiejarvis I didn't realize how young you are, that explains the over generalizing nature of what you said haha. Have a good day buddy! Good luck with your UA-cam channel!
Yes! We used to have a 2013 Honda Pilot. We now switched to a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban Premiere model. We got a letter in the mail one day from Honda. It read “After your recent honda visit for an oil change, we messed up on your car and we accidentally some how got medal in your airbags” That’s pretty much the letter i was pissed
@@pacearrow4620 😂😂😂😂😂😂 exactly what I was thinking
Dude get a trash dumpster and clean up all garbage in your car. 🤨🤨
CLEAN YOUR CAR BRO
The problem is not the Honda Pilot, the problem is you and your wife neglect and abuse
What of a dumpster fire. Guy doesn’t know shit and this poor car is quite obviously neglected and taken for granted.
Thank you for the review
You probably thanking him for his review about how to not abuse your car
That thing needs new tires, they look like drag slicks
As a current piloteer I am not looking forward to these problems.
You can buy a module that deactivates the VCM, and will help prevent a lot of the damage caused by the engine shifting between 3 cyl, 4cyl, and 6cyl.
Did you install a module on your pilot? If so which one. I’m Fixin on picking one up here
@@Cfass1 get yourself an 82 ohm resistor and solder it into the pink/red wire coming from your coolant temperature sensor. What I did and have had zero issues, stays in 6 cylinder mode, dealership cant even tell.
My visors stopped going up can not believe they stopped working
hope these dont happen to my moms 13 pilot
You should use some moisturizer on your elbows. 😁 😃
She uses moisturizer on other things when she's in that car
Try to get your Chanel going dude try to clean the car before you do an UA-cam video, I don't this is the car problems I think is the owners of the car I'm sure if the car had regular maintenance and cleaning it will look spotless and nicer
My 2011 honda pilot is consuming too much oil
Easy fix. Buy a vcm muzzler and your problem will be solved. Variable cylinder management is what's causing your oil issue
Keep cm
Is that your wife’s car
No
Thanks
These cars are the best. You probably no nothing about the cars.
Geez, let's make a video about a car but leave it filthy. Here's a tip. The way a car looks is indicative of how it is maintained. In a million years, I would never buy this car from this guy just on how it is presented here. My 2011 with 127,000 miles did have the center console cover (which is vinyl in OEM part) tear. Amazon has several replacement pieces in leather which are easy to install.
Your first problem with your Pilot is that it's filthy. You are driving a garbage can on wheels.
Not his car genius
If it was american any junk brand you be 150% correct fall apart and rust like crazy, but in this situation and this brand it only shows one of 2, or you guys beating it hard daily for many hours none stop all over all year round or you just got unlucky and buy it this way and somebody did it before you simple. DIZ!! :)
A lot of haters here
Cause these problems are him not taking care of his car. And he claims it’s not his, but he says “i’m, “my” “sometimes I”
Is this video a joke? You're making a video of things that break on your car and then you just slam the armrest closed while it's filled with junk hahaha wtf! Don't treat your car like shit if you want it to last.
It's not his car
This is a disgustingly maintained car. Have some shame before uploading a video.
These Honda’s are garbage. Anyone looking to buy this generation should not waste their money. I cannot stand my wife’s pilot. First of all they’re uncomfortable. They shudder from the transmission and brake rotors. You need to disable the VCM or you’ll open a whole can of worms. I might possibly have a rear main seal leak. The drive axles need to be replace along with at least a tie rod. I’m at 67k. What a joke
idk about you, but our car has about 150k, we have only had to replace the alternator and windshield and normal maintenance stuff.
