they're really close to the road _ they were assembling it between the blue cherry picker & dumper _ literally feet from the fence _ so much easier to see the working function if the assembly girder & crane than the other one at the other end of Delta junction @ Hams Hall_ impressive piece of kit _ do you think you'll get clearance to use the drone for any airborne footage _ as those viaducts go up where the 2 tower cranes are situated _ let alone the works for crossing M6 & M42 sliproads @ J7 _ good clear video as usual _ looking forward to the next installment _ wondering which viaduct they intend to lift the second assembly frame onto there _ keep filming _ enjoying the videos 👍 _ excellent

Luton Airport have been fine with approvals so I suspect it'll be fine, just has to be applied for, planes are higher here than in Luton.
So much better to see it upclose and personal.

If there are no trains to and from the North to Curzon Street, does HS2 even need the delta junction?

The Delta Junction is to allow trains from London Euston to go to Manchester by passing Birmingham, Liverpool, Scotland and Birminghm and trains from Birmingham to either go to London Euston or North to Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland

The West Coast Main Line (WCML) is one of the most important railway corridors in the United Kingdom, connecting the major cities of London and Glasgow. The future HS2 delta design could tie in HS2 to the WCML. Then again, the "Phase2a" may be resurrected at any time going forward, so then a high-speed (200mph+) could become real again.
Of course running HS2 trains north of Birmingham and delta on heritage WCML track at around 120mph would have dismal capacity.

How come i have seen drone footage of this area from other channels if Birmingham airports vicinity means no drones

    • @masekwm
      @masekwm  2 місяці тому +1

It is possible to get permission to fly in the FRZ but you have to apply in advance, submitting the area of the drone flight and who is flying the drone, etc (I have this for Luton town centre), so I assume, giving benefit of the doubt, they have applied in advance for permission.
Alternatively, they're winging it and clicking the "I have permission" button on the controller.

Nothing but a monstrous blot on the landscape & a complete & utter waste of billions of pounds.
Within a decade of opening (in about 50 years time given the current rate of progress), this concrete monstrosity will be nothing more than a glorified cycle path.
HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century.

I wrote a newspaper article about a train critic in the United States: I’m aware some Minnesota senators oppose funding for the proposed Northern Lights Express train service because, they claim, passenger trains are obsolete.
For example, Sen. David Osmek, R-Mound, authored an amendment this legislative session prohibiting the planning for NLX from being included in a supplemental budget and policy bill, as Minnesota Public Radio reported. “The Northern Lights passenger rail system is a bad idea that is a 19th century solution to transportation in Minnesota,” he said. “It’s like asking us to spend money on buggy whips.”
I disagree. Modern passenger trains are no more obsolete than any other type of public transportation. NLX trains will be as technologically advanced as any passenger airplane without the hassle of TSA airport screenings or lengthy travel times to and from airports that are distant from downtowns.
Also, across the U.S. and around the world, the public and private sectors are investing billions in building and/or expanding passenger-train networks. Passenger trains are bringing their communities, especially transit-underserved communities, numerous benefits. These include the development of businesses in and around stations, which attracts and retains young professionals, many of whom prefer public transit to private automobiles. This all reduces regional economic disparities.
Passenger trains are reducing toxic greenhouse-gas emissions to create healthier air that reduces costly disease and deaths in humans. They are also bringing safe, reliable, and comfortable mobility choices to public-transportation deserts, especially for those who choose not to drive or are unable to drive.
Moreover, it is, at best, an insincere argument to insist that NLX trains make a profit - while other types of transportation, without objections, get lavish subsidies. The Rail Passengers Association’s white paper, “Long Distance Trains: a Foundation for National Mobility,” said, “Goals like ‘operational self-sufficiency,’ ‘profit,’ or (minimal) federal operating support are neither reasonable nor sound public policy objectives. This is supported by the fact that federal and state funds subsidize air and road travel. The effect of these goals is to block improvements needed to modernize the nation’s intercity passenger train system and rejuvenate our increasingly expensive and dysfunctional transportation system. The driving purpose should be to harvest the public benefits that trains produce for the communities they serve and for the nation as a whole. Studies have found that even one train a day produces benefits that exceed costs.”

@@NovaMoonstar Great article but wasted on our resident HS2 basher general.

    • @CRIMSONANT1

@@NovaMoonstar .. I'm not sure how much research you've done on HS2 since it was first proposed in 2009 but all your positive comments about high-speed travel in the USA bear no relation to the (now 15 years & counting) project that's taking place here in England where the majority of the public view HS2 as a "we can build it so we will" monstrosity.
HS2 was billed as an ambitious, zero carbon, high-speed rail project that was supposed to transform public transport between the North, the Midlands & London, making it far quicker to access the capital from other parts of the country.
Due to massive & unsustainable costs, many parts have been cancelled by the previous conservative government & what's left is nothing more than a shuttle service between London & Birmingham (cities that are already well served by two existing lines).
Only recently, HS2 Ltd admitted that in its anticipated 120-year lifespan, HS2 will never be carbon neutral. The environmental argument for the project is that it will transfer passengers from more carbon intensive modes of transport.
Such presumptions are misguided. Indeed, electric vehicles, increasingly powered by low-carbon generation are anticipated to dominate the motor industry by the time HS2 is completed, accounting for 60% of new vehicles by 2030.
The government’s own projections foresee a vast number of passengers transferring to HS2 from existing main lines, transportation which typically emits less carbon than high-speed trains. The Department of Transport has indicated that just 1% of HS2 passengers would be those who would have flown whilst 4% would have driven. The insignificant reduction in carbon from these modes of transport will be far outweighed by the environmental cost of HS2.
You talk about "public-transportation deserts" but they don't exist here - everywhere that HS2 covers is already well connected by an existing rail network .. no new stations are being constructed .. just existing stations refurbished at a ludicrous cost to the public purse.
The blatant corruption within HS2 Ltd that's recently been exposed shows that since day one of the project, they've exaggerated figures & used misleading projections to ensure that billions of pounds kept flowing into the project.
Whistleblowers claim they were told by senior management to lie about the project’s cost & were sacked after speaking out. They say the government wasn't informed of the real cost of HS2 for years, all while voting on laws that approved its construction.
For instance, HS2 Ltd state that to "break even" with a subsidy of 50/60%, they require 600,000 people travelling between London & Birmingham DAILY!
Given that passenger numbers on this route have been declining by 4% per year for the last decade & now average 96,000 per day, where on earth do they expect the extra 504,000 to suddenly materialist from?
Economists forecast that by the time HS2 opens (in about 50 years time given the current rate of progress), ticket prices will be so expensive that only politicians & the elite will be able to travel on it.
The consensus is that the vast sums of money that have already been spent should have been put to much better use - the original cost was estimated at £37.5 billion but even now, with years still to go before trains start running, the cost is now expected to exceed £100 billion.
