The power of the acting in this episode particularly during the family fight between Walt and Skylar is incredible, Sir Anthony Hopkins himself said that this show had some of the best acting he's ever seen.

    Emmy Wins for this episode:

Lead Actress: A. Gunn (her 2nd win for skylar)
This season won best drama series. Aaron Paul won for 5:11-Confessions (his 3rd win for Jessie)

Yes, Emmys were won by Walt, Skylar and the writer for this episode.
Throughout the entire series, many Emmys were won!
10 out of 10 masterpiece, IMO
I'm glad to see you enjoying it so much 😀

Damm, in this ep, even the infant playing Holly gave an Emmy-worthy performance! (Albeit purely by accident: she was simply looking over to her mother who was there just offscreen and crying for her, so Bryan Cranston played off of that and it just fit the scene perfectly.)

Holy crap, learn something new everyday. What struck me was as he was just starting to fall over, the sun shown bright on one side of his head over the shoulder; as if god was telling him and the audience, who he really is and the consequences of his actions. Like that episode of doctor who where Davros told the doctor, "I have shown you yourself."

  • @findlestick

Walt knew the phone would be wired, so he was letting them record a quasi-confession from him to clear Skylar. And he took Holly to give weight to Skylar’s distress when talking to the cops, so it seems plausible that there is a clear divide between her and Walt.

    • @Sl0wry

I don't think that's the reason why he took Holly: at that moment, his wife and son were both against him, so out of desperation, he tried to salvage the only piece of his family he had left. He only changed his mind once Holly started calling her mother.

    • @DIEGOSHAY

Hearing Hank’s final words to Walt, it wasn’t just a goodbye to his mortal enemy, it was a goodbye to his beloved brother in law.
I think Hank was trying to hold back tears, cause despite all that Heisenberg did, including all that Walt put him through, Walt was still his brother-in-law. Even sinking to the lowest he’s ever been hasn’t stopped Walt’s genuine love for his family.
Walt might’ve did inexcusable things at this point, but he did try and save Hank from Jack. He was even willing to swallow his pride, even his money if it meant saving Hank’s life.
It’s one of the few times he can say he did something for his family rather than himself.
I think Hank himself reconciled with Walt, even if it was only momentarily and short-lived, knowing that deep down, there was still some of his beloved brother-in-law within Heisenberg. That’s another part of what makes Hank’s end so tragic.
Everyone can hate Walter all they want, and I genuinely don’t blame them, but he DID try to save Hank. That’s something I genuinely can’t fault him for.

I know a few have already mentioned that Walt's phonecall to Skyler at the end of the episode was his way of telling the police it was his sole opperation, but if you have time, it's reallt worth taking a few minutes for a quick rewatch of just that part. As someone interested in the law, I'd think you;d find it facinating to watch just the call from that angle and to hear how he is trying to feed her an alibi on a silver platter.

    • @extantsanity
      @extantsanity 11 місяців тому +5

It's also worth going back through and watching for Walt's performance, realizing why he was crying through the call despite playing the villain. He pauses at one moment, waiting for Skyler to play along and confirm she understands what he's doing. You can see his relief when she says, "You're right" because it means he can keep the charade on to help her and his gambit is working. The whole thing is executed so well that even the audience (e.g. UA-cam reactors) often miss it until 5x15 Granite State, where Saul breaks it down.

It's crazy to me how many people miss the fact that Walt was trying to get skylar off the hook (with the phone call he made to her) but easy to miss when Walt is so far gone at this point. Love the subtleties in this show.

My parents decided we couldn't wait that long so we went and bought a physical copy for like $75 first thing Saturday morning and binged the rest because we couldn't wait the 24 hours until we could just stream it lol and we are not a family that watches tv during the day, but we couldn't resist

27:16 - When Holly was asking for her "mama", she was actually reacting to her REAL mother who was just off camera. But the director recognized the brilliance of this scene and left it in the final cut. Secondly, Anna Gunn (Skylar) needed therapy after acting out these incredible scenes. The entire cast truly earned their pay and showed their incredible ranges of talent. Thanks for another great reaction.

I'm late but here's a fun fact about this episode - when Walt falls to the ground and rests his head on the sand, the production team built a rig hidden under the sand to make the ground literally "crack" beneath him to symbolize everything crashing down on Walt at this exact moment! Such a masterpiece of an episode, really enjoying your reactions after seeing your BCS reactions 🙌

This is such a great episode, but I hate that that it's the end of the true hero of the series(and Gomey at that). RIP to Hank, but at least the man went out like an absolute boss. Even Jack had to respect his resolve. Walt was already going to hell, but he really secured a spot in the deepest circles in this episode.

To me, the n@zi gang leaving Walt with "10 or 11 million" is one of the most unbelievable moments in the series. It's necessary for what's to come as far as the plot is concerned, but requires a total suspension of disbelief: In reality they would have put him in the hole with Gomie and Hank.

Jack "too many savages out there" Welker has delusions of honor. Him robbing a grief struck man of 70 million dollars and then saying "Geez, what's with all the greed here" is in character and hilarious, even it requires a lil' credulity. I think there are plenty of things in the show that require greater levels of suspension of disbelief.

If I was a betting squid I would have bet that you wouldn't have "got" the phone call. Your over exaggerated disdain for Walt blinded your comprehension & interpretation of the 'phone call'. I used to say that 50% of reactors misunderstand the phone call but now I'd say that percentage went up to about 60%, 6 out of 10 reactors misunderstand the phone call.
I do appreciate that you didn't blab to us every little thought that pops into your head, besides some of the physical reactions you had, for the most part you paid attention and you let the scenes play out without giving any plot predictions or making stupid off-the-cuff random thoughts or make any 'dad jokes'. You are right towards the end of this show you are have to keep going because each episode is phenomenal, of which this is the best one ever. Just love the flashback to S1 in the RV and Walt sporting his iconic Tighty Whities. Great scene when Hank says to Walt 'you are the smartest guy I've ever met, but too stupid to see he made up his mind 10 minutes ago'. Walt at last gets to feel real pain with Hank being executed before his eyes, but he is just another in the Domino Effect of all Walt's actions from the start. Todd saying 'sorry for your loss' again with no emotion, but Uncle Jack letting Walt off the hook is a big mistake on his part. The gang of course drag Jesse from out under the car. Walt telling Jesse he watched Jane choke to death after her OD seem so cruel, it's even making Elie think of damaging his gadgets after squashing his empty water bottle in last episode! We switch to the ordinaryness of the car wash again with Walt Junior oblivious to all. Jesse now enslaved by the Jack's gang as a Cook, and the deranged Todd hooking him up so he can't escape. Walt Junior just cannot accept the truth of what has happened. Skyler is of course no fool and knows Hank is dead. Great shot of the knife block reminiscent of the film Scream, Skyler now in 'Dark Willow' mode and just wants revenge on Walt, she has no hesitation slashing him, and a very realistic domestic fight breaks out which is hard to watch with Flynn looking on. With Holly crying in the background, Flynn rings the cops and fingers Walt, that's the end for him with his family as his son has turned on him now. Walt snatching Holly drags the tension even further. Holly calling 'Mama' a great scene, the Hoover Man is he only way out. The phone call to Skyler shows he is cracking up now, his ridculous arrogance and ego coming through again as he blames everyone but himself for what has happened. He sees some sense however dropping Holly at the Fire Station. ' I need a new dust filter for my Hoover MaxExtract PressurePro model 60 ' is the only way out now great wide shot of Walt waiting for the pickup. This I think was probably the best episode in the whole show, and that's saying something as they are all brilliant, but there are still two stunning episodes to finish the Series.
