ICONIC Esports Moments: Justin Wong's Marvelous Comeback (FGC)

- Anyone who’s ever played a competitive fighting game has experienced a moment of hopelessness. A moment when you realize that your chances are getting slim and your hopes of winning slowly fade away before your very eyes. What separates legendary players from the rest of us is the ability to look that dread in the face and keep playing. The ability to never give up.
At the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament at EVO 2007, everyone in the fighting game community was waiting for one match, Justin Wong vs. Michael “Yipes” Mendoza. Justin Wong made history with this iconic comeback.

Justin the only guy to be on the both sides of a dramatic comeback
They call it the wong factor
JASTIN WONK HOW MY GOD
He repeated that clip over and over and over again like a moron
Comebacks back then were legitimately hype because the games did not naturally help you make comebacks.
Nah that’s just mahvel 2. Third strike parry’s show how theoretically anyone could make a comeback in that game; just be real good. In mahvel being down two Guys with no assists as a striker as your last guy and winning was thought to be impossible. There was no way you could compete with that kind pressure. It wasn’t that comebacks were impossible it’s the fact that mahvel makes them the closest thing to impossible your gonna get in a fighting game outside the Haggar magneto match up.
@@Neogears1312 yeah sure.... Anyone can parry in a competition to make a comeback. Stfu
Atcera do...do you like not know what evo moment 37 is? Cause it is literally some making a complete turnabout comeback. Exclusively because of parries. My only other explanation is you’re a fuckin idiot so please just say the former even if it’s not true for your sake.
Crude Carl The reason EVO moment 37 was so great is because parrying Chun-Li’s super is extremely difficult. Arguably as or more difficult as making a single character comeback in MVC2. Parry’s weren’t a comeback mechanic either, just a defensive option.
Joseph Abrams you ever just meet one of those guys who states basic fucking sense and parades themselves like they’re saying something really intelligent? I’d recommend checking out a mirror if the answers no...
Damn, the story was much like what he experienced with Daigo's perry. He didn't won the tourney, but it's the comeback that makes the highlight...
Here's a few iconic moment worth covering regarding fighting games
1. "Stick Malfunction" - Momochi vs Gamerbee EVO 2015 (Ultra Street Fighter 4) - Momochi stick malfunctioned and it went to final round. This was USF4 final EVO too being on the mainstage.
2. "Player 3" - Ryan Hart vs Gandido EVO 2008 (Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection) - Ryan Hart, match point, he wins EVO, Gandido, match point he resets the bracket and someone from the crowd hit the home button which stopped the match. The set had to be replayed. What was so significant from this was wireless pads became banned from events.
3. "Healing" - Infiltration vs Gamerbee - EVO 2015 (Ultra Street Fighter 4) - Hype psychological set between the two, the set lasted nearly half an hour and it wasn't even grand final. Timer was called in for infiltration who didn't know what to do (character switch wise). Gamerbee abused Elena's healing which wasn't really a thing untill then.
Dino Boy Thank you!
Infiltration vs Gamerbee - EVO 2015 is maybe my favorite match ever. So fun to watch them both adjust their strategies.
The way he said OH MY GOD!
Every time I hear "OH MY GAAAWWDDDD" it makes me smirk and smile at the same time.
The Wong factor is real and still lives
Can we get Justin's Cyclops in our next movie? One of the few times Scott is done justice anywhere.
That commentators' words at the end are legendary as well.... such passion
Probably the only guy that was in 3 of EVO best moment .... moment 37 (arguably "THE" moment)... Wong vs Yipes (the iconic comeback of MVC 2) ... Return of the King MvC 3 - The Wong Factor. The dude is a legend !! props to the wong factor
I love these FGC stories!
Justiiiin wooonng. Oh myyy gaaaawwd
While most outside the gaming community knows Justin from the Daigo parry, Jwong is still the greatest MvC2 player ever with 7 titles and arguably the best EVO champ overall with 9 championship titles.
Love this type of content : D
Oh my God I never knew it was against yipes and that he ended up winning
Kinan Ballagh
I honestly don’t know why yipes quit playing professionally. The dude was legit.
@@massterwushu9699
The game got old after awhile which is why he left when MvC3 was released on the console instead of the arcade. He's still a master at it. The Exhibition among Yipes, JW, n Sanford Kelky was at 2018 Twin Galaxies fight club...check that out. JWong pulled the Daigo comeback "Evo2004 moment #37" on Yipes at Evo2007.
His best comeback in MVC2 was vs Desmond/Xecutioner. he beat him with cable with only a pixel left on his lifebar
I'd say that and this are 1a and 1b, cause seriously Scott on his own as opposed to cable is a big difference.
cable has more than just an assist going for him though
@@maxpflughoeft6806 cable sucks more than cyclops as a comeback character btw
Favorite Evo moment ever!
Snake Eyez epic comeback at SCR I believe, or pretty much any of his epic moments such as against Xian at Evo... Just an amazingly hype player to watch.
MOAR FGC CONTENT!!
Where's SEAN???? :C His voice is so heavenly nothing else can suffice now :/
3:00 - justin didnt catch him blocking low, he used cyke's double jump to mess up Yipe's timing. Yipes was doing a block string into fireball and justin whiff punished
LETS GO JUSTIIIIIIN
Of all the people, he's the one that would never give up because the 37 taught him well.
if the MCU ever gets the X-Men back, then Justin Wong should cameo
"Ending up with your anchor character against a full team is usually a death sentence" Unless your anchor is a half demon megalomaniac
God I miss MvC2 tournaments.
Legendary
Damn justin has an american happ stick with a thrice sticker on it...thats 07 as fuck lol
Had no idea those loops were possible
4:40 to all yall who use a fkn gaming chair nowdays... this is how legends used to play 💯
Justin Woaaang, OHHH MY GAAAAWD!
chills
You guys should do Qudans' Tekken 7 story winning two majors then proceeding to win the Tekken World Finals.
0:10 LOL I remember this, they both play the match shirtless and the chat went wild
Justin Wooooooong!!!! Oh my God!!!!!
Hi, can I ask what music was used on this vid? Kinda wanna hear it again. Thnx
If all you showed was the actual match without narration, backstory, or anything else this would have been a better video. You took one of the best matches ay evo and managed to suck out all the hype.
While very late, I'd like to point out that stating that Cyclops was never considered for top tier is simply not true. Early MvC2 tier lists, i.e. around the first 3-6 months, originally had a Big Ten tier consisting of (not necessarily in this order): Cable, Sentinel, Magneto, Storm, Spiral, Cyclops, Iron-Man, Strider, Dr. Doom, and Blackheart. It took a solid 9-12 months before the Big Four of Storm/Sentinel/Cable/Magneto separated themselves from the others, though Spiral et. al rest were still considered great characters and many great teams used them.
(Indeed, note that the Evo champ of 2005, Duc Do, won with his classic Spiral/Cable/Sentinel, a team that hadn't seen regular tournament use since Duc Do won the first major MvC2 tournament in 2000 at B5, Evo's predecessor).
Not to take anything away from Justin's Marvellous™ comeback, but there are reasons why Cyclops was considered top tier at one point, a big one being free meter gain with endless superjump back HK and any hit comboing into Super Optic Blast easily and safely, as Justin shows here. Once it was done to one on one, Justin had the advantage, but of course, *getting* to that point was the major comeback.
another legend marvel moment would be combofiend's bionic arm
Mmmmm I don't want to make it sound like I didn't like this video because I did, but I got a little feedback, because Ive really liked a few of the videos you've done for Fighters so far but this one was and its not just the narration, in fact it seems like this guy knows more about fighting games than the last one but thats not really why I find these videos interesting too watch.
The iconic moments videos you do are all about telling an amazing moment. And also in a way that I can show it to people who aren't into Fighters or CS or Dota and they still get how sick that play was.
It feels like you kind of wrote this like a school essay, but a video essay isn't an essay, its a film, its a story, so you gotta structure it like you would a story. Like when you did the EVO moment 37 video, that had wonderful build up and climax and poetic storytelling, you didn't need to explain how top tier Chun was in 3s or even how parries work, other than the fact that its hard. There was a lot more explaining in this video, trying to explain some marvel mechanics, but you don't need to go in depth or explain how marvel tier lists work. You could of just said "Cyclops, a weak solo character" thats it. You don't need any more explanation, the audience understands now how against the wall Justin is. I feel like some parts of this weren't edited as well as previous ones. You show that justin is down to one character, but then show him in a 1v1, we didn't even get to enjoy the anticipation of him slowly coming back into that round. We lost that build up too quick, so we can't enjoy the triumph when it happens. The explanation of why it was cool was longer than showing the moment itself.
In my mind these stories should be told as if someone wasn't there at the time, so you should build it up like that, then you can add in why this was such a monumental moment to present.
Sorry if you take it the wrong way, thats just my opinion.
i think the explanation was necessary because 1 character comebacks in marvel 3 were common...
for someone who didn't catch the high of marvel 2 days justin's comeback woudn't look as impressive as it was
He didnt catch him blocking low, he caught a whiffed psyblast after the double jump...
Yipes did NOT drop his combo.....he did not have meter
Excellent video once again.
Didn't someone else beat Jwong at Evo2005 in winners? Or did Yipes double eliminate him?
Here's a link to the original clip: ua-cam.com/video/gVmc5ZepdVs/v-deo.html
he has a better less well known comeback using cable with ONE PIXEL and kills a whole team. (justin wong cable comeback)
Is it just me or is the audio in this video crackling? Notably in the voiceover, like it's peaking/clipping.
FChamp was in commentaries? 🤔
JUSTIN WON OH MY GOD
!!!!!!!!!!
Oh so this is what Deadpool was referencing when he said "Where's your curly Moustache at?" at when he beats Magneto.
❤️
What happened to the old narrator? The new one isn't bad, but he doesn't have the same "umpf"
Marns scream is the only iconic thing here lol
Wong factor turns commentators into pornstars
So we just forget Sanford Kelly huh
Oh my gad
This was better then daigo Parry
smh* Hey, theScore eSports. I don't mean to be a downer on what you're trying to do regarding highlighting eSports player historic moments and stories. However there are a lot of things you guys are getting wrong. Especially regarding Justin Wong. I won't get into the major one that happen as the producer of the film already dealt with you guys on that. However regarding this particular aspect, Yipes is not the only one to have beaten Justin Wong at Evo in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Sanford Kelly another teammate of his at the time beat him in 2009. ua-cam.com/video/h098IYx9v4s/v-deo.html
I can't 100% see you guys at fault for missing a lot of information as most of the information you get from the FGC who wants to omit anything regarding our team Empire Arcadia, which is what created a huge issue in your other piece you did on Justin that then got removed. If you have any questions regarding the history of Justin prior to EG or FOX, you can always contact us as we have footage you may find useful that we own and have no problem lending so that you can accurately tell Justin's history in eSports.

Smh Justin wong also lost to Sanford Kelly.
Man if only Capcom released a new Marvel game of this hype..... and not that "Wasted Opportunity: Infinite".
Infinite already has plenty of hype moments
yeah it's a hype game if you don't like X-men.
So FChamp's 266 hit solo Dormammu combo isn't hype? Or an actual diversity in characters instead of more Doom, Vergil, Storm Sentinnel et cetera?
That would be a hype if the game didn't have the art direction of a mobile game and the visual equivalent of sticking needles into my eyes. There's no "diversity" in that roster, it was clearly handpicked by lawyers and marketing, why else would they ruin a long stable tradition of the MvC roster. The game is trash and it's selling like trash.
It's better than the laggy, Dr Doom filled cancer fest that is MvC3
Damn, he was so skinny back then compared to now.
BboyMinty920
Spend of most his tournament winning on fast food restaurant while becoming a full time pro gamer. Lol. That's what he does.
Give back the old voice
Like the old voice better
i don't know those X-men characters
old narrator was better by a mile
Justin vs Daigo???
i think we already got that one
A great moment! We already covered it :D here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/klaWV-szmnY/v-deo.html
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

Ahmad AlShehab shut the fuck up you bitch maybe you being first doesnt mean shit because being first in a youtube comment section is valueless yet you have no life and you see this new video and you dont comment a single thing about the video, instead you say first you ungrateful fuck.
