- Took a pretty good wipe out while trying to push it a little too hard at MtHood SkiBowl... Didn't quite realize it was that easy to go flying off the track at 30mph. This was filmed on a Sony ActionCam mounted on the head strap.

They’re fine, the guy is at fault. You are given specific instructions to not lean on the ride because that’s what happens.

The combination of the quick left/right banking upset his balance. It's very difficult unless you've done it a few times to anticipate that particular section of track and compensate by leaning early and aggressively as you exit the left and head into the right. Once you get the hang of it, you can do the entire track at more or less constantly full speed. I hope your friend was alright and improved his skill. The usual trolls on here making idiotic and sarcastic remarks would probably fare no better.

@@friencheetahI know this is extremely late but I wanted to say that these aren't concrete, they're fiberglass. physical/blunt force isn't a concern at all. the main thing people run into is serious serious serious friction burns from reaching out to touch the track to catch themselves or falling out of the cart and continuing to slide at 20-30mph down it

I am surprised that this thing is still open.When they opened this up back in the 80's,my brother and i went up to ride it and he flew off the tracks and injured his arm pretty bad,went into the rocks and brush,cuts all over hands and arm? It is a blast but you can definitely get messed up on it.

I've bit it on one of these alpine slides before. I was trying to keep pace with my step-dad and there was a large drop, a sharp right turn, and I ended up rolling on the turn. The shit was painful. I got scraped up pretty good.

There was an alpine slide in Calgary when I was young. They took it down to build the bobsled track for the '88 Olympics. I've always missed it.

I've totally done the same thing in Collingwood at the Great Canadian Slide Ride! Didn't hurt (I was young) but I presumed you could go as fast as you liked and that sled would never fly off the track! Clearly, we were wrong!
I still have scars on my arms from 35 years ago. Some people were so slow you would catch up to them and ram them in the back. I remember kids crying from it.

Oh yeah, don’t they have the smiler now, it goes upside down the most out of any ride in the world at 14 times and it also had 2 cars hit each other (just like in this video) and 2 peoples legs got amputated and the theme is creepy and insane and also one time the track came apart mid-ride and another time random bolts and pieces of the ride fall off out of no where

I road this once years ago at action park NJ. I was going so fast hit the turn flew out and up in there air landed back on the track without the Kart scraping up my knees arms everything. When I was in the long line at Medical checking in first thing 2-person set was Alpine Slide right? I was like yep LOL

Last time I rode these at ski bowl I lost a ton of skin and burned a hole through my shirt. Weight limit is 200 pounds, I was sitting at 190. Second turn in the same lane I was already at full speed and the sled flipped out but I stayed in the slide and just lost a ton of skin. Shit sucks, Ski Bowl doesn't give a fuck though about safety. Probably the best part about it.

Happened to me at Park City. My sled and legs left the track. I slid down the fiberglass supporting my body with my left forearm. It burned off all my skin from my wrist to my elbow. I got to the bottom and went to the lodge bathroom. Rinsed it off and wrapped it in paper towels and headed to the bar because it really hurt. At the bar there were probably 3 other people there with their arms wrapped in paper towels. So we drank.

I don't know which Alpine Slide this was, but the one in the Poconos had a fast and slow lane. I took the slow lane to be on the safe side. A woman (I knew her...total airhead) crashed into the back of me. She should have been in the fast lane. People are clueless on these rides. Management is, too.
If you look carefully, on either side of the slide is gravel. That's the first thing you hit when you fall off. Believe me I know
They should extend the section of track between the hard-left then right-hand banking at 0:22. Add a few more sections of straight track to give people a chance to regain their equilibrium before heading into the right-hander. We install chicanes in Formula One to help prevent accidents. The same principle applies here. Everyone's a professional critic until they screw up, then they expect special considerations from everybody else. Moral of the story: Criticize less, focus on yourself instead.
You definitely should wear a helmet going on these high speed slides!

This is very similar to the Olympic luge. How the hell can a private company offer such an obviously unsafe ride to the general public. The video clearly shows how easy it is to fly off the track. I guess they have great litigation insurance.
I work here. I ride it every day and go atleast 15 mph faster than these hooligans, never wiped out once.
