  • Ensuring that you have the right size chainring on your E-bike for the type of riding that you do is essential. Steve discusses how to change e-mountain bike chainrings, and the reasons why your motor might benefit from a different size.

    For flatter terrain your motor won’t have to work as hard to help maintain 25kph when paired with a larger chainring, however if you ride in a particularly hilly area a smaller chainring will not only mean faster accelerations but also better energy efficiency.

    Great explanation.
    I would love a similar video regarding the Yamaha PW-SE motor.
    How easy is it to find chainrings on online shops for that motor? Are the chainrings independent of the Crank?
    What about replacing a single chainring by a double chainring? Is it easy to place the derailleur? For example in a haibike SDURO?

    Very informative video, thank you.
    My KTM Macina Kapoho LT271 (8-speed) came with a 16 tooth SRAM X-SYNC sprocket.
    I upgraded to a 18 tooth sprocket which is the largest available for the SRAM X-SYNC series however upon looking on the Internet I have come across a 20 tooth sprocket (KMC) but it comes in two variants, either 1/8 or 11/128.
    Not sure whether to try one of these larger sprockets out and most importantly i'm unsure which varient I should get.
    Can you offer any advice?? Thanks 😊

    Hi, how do you deal with offset? The one you changed should be 5mm: I've tried with an FSA 2.5mm offset and I often loose the chain

    2:22 just cus it has a clutch doesn't to mean it can lockout, but some clutches have that feature like Sram & Sensah.

    I would like to know how to tell which sprocket tool is needed for my 2020 CX that came with my Moterra Neo. Not all of the sprocket tools for the Bosch motors are the same and each one is about 25 quid apiece, and I have one now as a paperweight. Thx.

    It's interesting that you don't mention Miranda, because they are the company that makes all this Bosch sprocket wizardry that allows you to change the chainline and whatnot. In addition to chainrings and chainguards, Miranda also manufactures Bosch-compatible spiders which allow the use of general-purpose sprockets. Another thing that's *critical* to mention is that Bosch drives can also refuse to work with certain chainrings as part of their anti-tampering mechanics... the exact nature of this is difficult to predict, but there are plenty of reports by people who replaced the chainring that their motor refuses to function.

    How many Nm needs the sprocket to be perfectly adjusted?. Thanks

  • @jameswilson9011
    @jameswilson9011 4 роки тому

    the one thing I'm worried about is the offset spacing (3:37) compared to the original, which seems to have inside teeth near the drive unit and sprocket spaced some number of millimeters away, then more space, then the outer guard. I'm not sure why miranda has so many offset combinations
    I'm thinking this actually just has to do with the cassette height in the back and to more closely match the middle of the gears

I've just bought a 14t sprocket for my Haibike.... fitted it..... it is slipping under the chain.... it ain't working and I'm not sure what to do... put new chain on..... but as I pedal....crank/sprocket rotates... and chain doesn't.... sprocket slips about 2 or 3 teeth each rotation..... I can't understand what bus going wrong......

    I have a question. The front ring you took off has a 5mm offset. The one you replaced with doesn’t. Is that a problem?

    • @bikerelated743
      @bikerelated743 6 років тому

      I'm not OP but yes, that is definitely a problem, though less so if you have a rear derailleur. It would be critical on an in-gear hub though. Luckily, there are different varieties of these front rings with the internal protection being offered in several different offsets - convenient if you want to adjust the chainline of your bike a little. Maximum is 20mm though :)

      Each Bosch motor is set for the bike set-up with cassette size and chainring size input etc. I'm not aware this can be changed with the usual interface, maybe Kevin knows different.

    • @kevinlafon
      @kevinlafon 6 років тому +1

      Bosch doesn’t provide software update, i had to ask the manufacturer of the bike if he was ok to reprogram the motor. Once they were ok, my bike shop had to make an appointment with Lapierre so they could upload the update online. My Bike shop couldn’t make the update by themselves. I guess software modifications are prohibited to bike shops to prevent de-restriction of the 25km/h limit.

    • @kevinlafon

      Brooklyn Hooper Same peak power, yes. But not at the same time. Anyway, if you play too much with the ratio cassette / chainring, you will get an error 531. Assistance shuts down.
