Holy crap, I had no idea that people were still making content for this game!? I absolutely love this game, and I hope to see more content from you. I totally agree with all your sentiments, imo Sheena has always been a bit lacking despite having good chain moves. My solution for it would be to increase the stagger time given by her attacks, reducing tp costs, and increasing the hitbox on her attack without actually changing the rng system used with her. I'm pretty sure that the summon spirit buffs aren't random, but received by the character's distance from the main attack, in the example you used, Lloyd was the only character near Origin on the battlefield. Overall, great video, and I'm excited just to see more Tales of Symphonia content. It's such an underrated game, and it was a massive part of my childhood. Here's hoping that the switch release will be just as good as the GameCube version. Have a great day, you sure just made mine
I plan to do different combat reviews on several different Tales of. I’ll also probably be doing other characters including more Symphonia, originally this video was not supposed to be about Sheena. It was supposed to be focused on Presea, and the problems with her kit, but eventually swapped that over to Sheena. Thanks, I’ll be sure to test the buffs the party receives from Sheena’s summoning again. Good to know some people out there like this kinda stuff, cause I did enjoy making this video lol
I can confirm that those summon buffs aren't random : they're applied to everyone near the center of the battlefield, you can literally see the AoE appear on the floor for that. Sheena lacks four things imo : a non-elemental weapon earlier on in the game (mostly for the battle where you're in 3v4), range on her moves, the opportunity to use her summons out of overlimit (without the buff, with way lower damage and TP cost obviously, a bit like her first summon)...and/or more artes. She's the character with the highest number of artes available but most of them are really situational (summons, elemental seals), outright bad (I agree with Life and Spirit seal, especially early on) or very similar (the stat decreasing ones, Pyre and Demon seal). So you basically have very few good artes to use usually and while that's technically a good thing since Symphonia only lets you use six artes at once, Sheena basically only has one game plan and you don't change it much. There are some good things you didn't talk about though. She's the fastest character in the game, she's got an awesome set of elemental resistances/immunities available and her pinion artes (especially the Serpent one iirc) are very useful with Force seal to extend combos without using spell cancel.
Yeah they are not random its the aoe that appears only in the center of the floor, I always thought it appeared as soon as the summon spirit was visible
Hey! If I’m not mistaken, the buff received upon summoning a summon spirit is sort of an AoE thing, when the spirits are summoned there’s a magic circle (NOT the one under Sheena during the summoning cutscene) that appears on the floor in the CENTER of the battlefield, different from the position that the summon spirit is, and also different from where their attack is. the buff will go towards whoever is in the circle
Hey, just found this video and it's a good overall picture of Sheena's abilities (barring the one detail that the others pointed out). Loved having Sheena narrate with her Z-skit animations; clever choice there. I definitely agree with most of the fixes you mentioned (especially with the Element Seals; I almost never use those, outside of hunting Mimics and certain other specific circumstances). Another thing I'd fix actually has to do with the summon magics themselves; too many of them are too random to be useful, such as Undine's Splash or Luna's Judgment, so changing them to skills like Tidal Wave and Holy Lance would, IMO, make them more worth using.
I'm currently running through Tales on Hard with No Deaths/Gels allowed (ua-cam.com/video/lJW9uegCwUw/v-deo.html) and Sheena has become my Off Tank for a lot of fights. She's very good at bailing up foes and Pyre Seal keeps them out of the fight even longer. There is a trick to use her summons more often, that I found out because I would often use Raine's personal skill to drop healing spells to 1TP cost: Your OVERLIMIT is reset to zero every time you rest at an inn. So if you don't rest at inns you can get a good feel for when it will go off and even have it ready for boss fights. It's been crucial to my challenge run.
I'm on my first playthrough, but I'm more worried about the AI combat, usually I'm just playing as Loyd n I don't have any strategy, I let everyone freely, I'm researching more about how the combat really works but I'm still confused on how to guide the bots or if I actually should change my lead to someone else, I heard Colette is good as much as the melee trio
I am planning to make an in-depth video about Lloyd in his kit. Probably will start working on it after I finish playing cold steel. Bots are terrible in Symphonia, lol. But more importantly, Lloyd can play an amazing supportive role while you lead the battle as another character. Having him set to long range or skills only in strategy, while only allowing him to use Demon Fang, Double Demon Fang or Demonic Chaos. The reason is because he’s completely safe while whoever is leading is pressing offense. It also potentially helps you extend combos since any demon fang type of arte can restand opponent Colette, imho, is the best character in the game
Being a dubuff character sound nice but Sheena's debuff(aside from Force Seal) doesn't make much difference, ACC and EVA are pointless stats to begine with so it doesn't matter if the debuff is gonna proc or not. In the end her role in the team is bench warmer. lol

I will double check to make sure
Your channel seems to scratch a tales high level play itch I have only seen in Rin Kiri's videos. Great work!
Thank you very much!

Just in time for the re-release :P

Wish they would use this to update the Remastered version of the Playstation. Hell Get it to run at the same pace as the GameCube version.

IMHO she's pure CRAP even at lv 250 On NORMAL mode and is NEVER in my party when NOT required.
