The way this is formatted is strong. Hits on the major points why Colette is good, and provides great examples. Also with good pacing will be a good primer for new and existing players! Good job!
Man, I had no idea about half of this stuff. I think her mid-range focus scared me off whenever I tried her, but seeing all the tools she has is really fascinating. Got me itching to start another Symphonia playthrough, to finally learn both spell canceling *and* Collette. And gotta say, excellent video! You struck a nice balance between explaining enough that I could follow, while pacing it fast enough to leave me wanting to experiment with the tips, myself, after each section.
Hey thanks for watching my guide! To be honest, I also didn't know a lot of this stuff existed until I did my Colette solo run. I'm pretty sure that I'm the one who discovered some of these mechanics which is a big reason why I felt the need to make this guide so that some of this Colette tech could get documented somewhere. I'm very glad that you thought the pacing and explanations were good. I have little experience with making videos like this, so I was very worried that those two aspects of the video in particular would be lacking.
@@HorangiTiger That’s pretty awesome, not gonna lie. To have discovered some of it yourself, especially given how old Symphonia is? Serious respect. And yeah, it can be tough to find the right balance with explanations, especially with subjects you know well, but I think you found it here.
In forums they called me crazy when I said that Colette was one of the best characters in the game. Genis is not necessary when Colette is available. Grand Cross, Torrential Para Ball and Family- Ray Satellite are broken.
Collette is amazing even for someone like me who is not good at the combos. The angel skills are always a favorite of mine, and the paraballs are my favorite physical attacks in all of Symphonia. Maybe you could also do a Jade guide? You have spent quite a lot of quality time with him as well. XD
So we all can learn how to do proper back scratches for our back itching foes and other shenanigens. When i will start up ToS Remastered on my PS5 i'll try Colette this time.
This helped when I was joining my friend on his first playthrough so obviously he was gonna play Lloyd. I intended to play regal cuz I know him but I gave her a shot & she’s probably a new favorite of mine.
This is so awesome - I have a friend i've been playing the remaster with and I was so surprised that I couldn't find guides for all the characters for beginners -> advanced. Thanks for putting this together - do you think you'll do the other characters?
Thanks for watching! I don't really have plans to make any guides atm. However, I do know of another UA-camr named Mecuriasu who made Presea and Lloyd guides. Hope you enjoy your playthrough :)
I keep coming back to this video every few months. You literally made me learn how to play Colette and it's interesting seeing how you have such a mastery with her. Love to see it And I'm curious, do you find any use for Colette's S artes? Hammer Rain and Triple R. T.? I really like how fast Triple Ray Thrust is and P.P. Hammer and Hammer Rain seem pretty good when you don't play as Colette but have her in your team. Any thoughts?
I'm glad you enjoy the video even if it's a bit scuffed! Triple Ray Thrust is a decent arte, it's pretty quick and is decent at breaking iron stance due to having three hits in it. It's just a bit overshadowed by Triple Ray Satellite, although it does have an edge over TRS in the range department. I think Hammer Rain is kind of bad unless you're fighting a very big enemy. Many of the hammers don't hit on smaller enemies and the arte has lots of end lag!
@@HorangiTiger I love the quickness in TRR but truly TRS is straight up broken. And I agree in Hammer Rain, it's actually a pretty slow arte but I feel like PPHammer is pretty good in some scenarios. Anyways they do get outshined by her T artes in every way. I personally love the Hammer artes for the chance of getting Poison and Ice. If only Ice could be useful more times in this game lmao
As a guy,who beat Symphonia on Hard with NIND restrictions and mained Colette i coud say she is really a Red Mage Tho she has only one support spell-Holy Song (But it’s pretty good cause, you can abuse it to get her MA Tho it works only in a OG GC ver, which i played) Imo she is good char But you need to know things like Spell Cancelling and right EX skill But even this way she can at least be a decent spell caster, mostly cause you get options for light element pm late in a game (Except for Raine Photon, which is broken as fuck) P.S Man Persona music is really fitting P.P.S Your voice is really cool P.P.P.S Forgot about Pow/Toss Hammer Broken as fuck as well Never really used it Ironically my Pow Hammer usage count was 999
Oh hey! I'm not the only idiot to do this? Do you have any videos of you run? I have mine here if you're interested! ua-cam.com/video/u0WWC4wwxHc/v-deo.html
I have no plans to make a guide for Lloyd or Sheena at the moment since I'm not exactly an expert on either character! That being said, another UA-camr named Mecuriasu made a Lloyd guide recently that I thought was pretty well made. I'd definitely recommend checking that out!
I always used colette for fun, just as the game as well. I never played tales of symphonia for combos and skills. 😂 I used item theif and item rover just watch her trip.
So for spell canceling, you do two hits then immediately cast Angel Feathers, or two hits into Ray Satellite/Para Ball then cast Angel Feathers, which you interrupt by doing two hits?
When I fought Kvar on Mania, part of me thought that not getting any of Colette's spells to 999 uses for spell cancelling was a mistake. Little did I know, I needed Kratos to cast Healing Wind constantly, so I wouldn't have been able to spell cancel for that fight anyway. Lol. Still, I'm now planning to get Angel Feathers to 999 for the coliseum on Mania. Just to be sure, aside from the Mystic Arte (which I won't be able to cancel with because my current series is unmodded and glitchless), all spells work the same for cancelling, right? Basic attacks and level 1-2 skills can be cancelled, but level 3 skills can't? And I suppose Kratos and Zelos can cancel their level 3 skills with Stone Blast/First Aid because of Super Chain, then? Do I have all that right?
Angel Spells are the same tier as High Magic (Lv 3). So you can cancel Lv 1 or 2 Artes, but not 3 (Unless you bind ????) As for Kratos/Zelos, you can cancel with Super Chain, you just need to know the order of the Artes you are using. A BnB you can use is Attack x3 > Light Spear > S. Lightning Blade > Lv1 Spell Cancel.
All spells do not work the same for spell-canceling. For Kratos and Zelos, they happen to have basic, intermediate, and advanced spells. This means that depending on what spell you're using, you can spell-cancel different techs in a combo. For example, canceling with First Aid (a level 1 spell), can cancel a combo utilizing level 2-3 techs. Canceling with Healing Wind (a level 2 spell), means you can cancel a combo utilizing level 1 or 3 techs (possible due to super chain). Canceling with Judgment (level 3 spell) means you can cancel a combo utilizing level 1-2 techs. This is because you're technically comboing into the spell and the spells follow the same rules as normal techs.
@@TailsGt1 Oh, I know that BnB already. I've recorded far in advance and have done the Singles Coliseum with Zelos, and use attack x6 -> Light Spear -> Super Lightning Blade -> First Aid Cancel a few times on Mania. I was just asking if that's possible specifically because of Super Chain or if anyone can cancel a level 2/3 with a level 1 spell. I've seen some Sheena gameplay cancelling Life Seal, for example. Can I replicate this with an element seal (level 1 spell) or would I need to use glitches to get a summon available outside of overlimit for this? I also noticed when I first got First Aid to 999 uses on Zelos (featured in a Fun With Farming video down the line) and experimented a little that I could cancel Light Spear, but I couldn't cancel Demon Fang. That's because Demon Fang and First Aid are both level 1, I take it? Anyway, thank you for making it clear that all angel spells are level 3. I was under the impression Angel Feathers was level 2, what with its relatively low TP cost and short casting time.
@@DracoFlame67 With Sheena, it is technically possible to cancel Lv 2 artes legit during the early to mid game when she has Corrine. It's a Lv 3 spell (As opposed to a MA) Though after Volt, you lose access unless you use Arte Underflow glitch or use Cheat Engine. (the elemental spells are also Lv 2 instead of 1. That probably explains why you cannot cancel Life Seal with it). Furthermore, Using same level Artes will not cause the cancel to happen. As Horangi mentioned, all spells do not work the same for spell cancelling. So if you want to cancel Demon Fang, I would recommend Demon Fang > S. Lightning blade, Intermediate spell (Eruption comes to mind)
@@TailsGt1 Thankfully, you can work around losing Corine. Once you learn the Pinion Seals if you set up with Force Seal and the EX Skill hard hit you can combo indefinetally without spell cancelling. @Jamesaga worked this out recently: ua-cam.com/video/CXPpMDLBcZc/v-deo.htmlsi=6k01rZ6GNkLSOs77
I always try to keep Colette in my party, most of her moves are very powerful, especially Holy Song which is a substantial buff to your team. However, I always leave her on autopilot, as much as I'd love to play as her, I really suck at doing that Hopefully, this guide will help me understand how she controls.
So tried the basic combo you recommended. I only have fay thrust and para ball for now. I’m playing on the steam version and her normal attacks basic combo (without directional input) is just too slow, way slower than in your video. And when I hit LT for ray thrust, it seems there’s an enormous input lag between the end of my basic attacks and the start of ray thrust to then para ball. With Lloyd this doesn’t happen and I can chain attacks and techs seamlessly. Is this a tech usage number issue or an ex skill or what?
Hmm, it shouldn't be a tech usage or ex skill issue. I think the issue might be that you're trying to use Ray Thrust after the end lag of your basic combo begins? You can cancel Colette's end lag on her basic attack if you press the arte button earlier than when the attack ends. That's the only thing I can really think of, let me know if it works for you.
Holy Song buffs ALL STATS. And yes, It is exceedingly powerful!
