    The NCAA needs to start rewarding difficult skills & encourage gymnasts to that risks. Because some routines are so boring and cookie cutter. These gymnasts in the video are not!!

      @@daro2404 I don’t mean for gymnasts to do anything crazy like an Amanar, full-in dismount on beam or double double on floor. But like encourage gymnasts to do a DLO or Full-in on floor instead of a simple double tuck. Or maybe a 1.5 on vault instead of doing a FTY on vault all year (I know they do encourage athletes to do it bc of the start value but you don’t see it as often).

    • @kojobaidoo4667
      @kojobaidoo4667 3 роки тому +15

      @@treyartemov8974 Where have you been? They do exactly that. We’ve seen so many more 1.5s and 10.0 vaults in general since the FTY was downgraded, including teams like OU and Nebraska going as far as to have a whole lineup of 10.0 starts. The floor rules are a little less rewarding to harder tumbling but some things are changing, like the rule last year that gives a double salto dismount more bonus

    • @pedropelaez
      @pedropelaez 3 роки тому +16

      If you want to encourage more difficult routines, then you need to get rid of the perfect 10 system. Until then, it makes no sense to do many elite level skills

    • @betna1816
      @betna1816 3 роки тому +19

      the reason they don’t do that is because most of these athletes have put their body through enough. they have already worked their way up to level 10 or elite, and their body has already taken too much toll. this is more relaxed so their bodies will be pushed but not pushed too hard.

    I’m from the U.K. and have no clue about college gymnastics. Is it ever the case that what is performed in college gymnastics outweighs the difficulty of moves executed at worlds/olympics etc? Some of the moves here look amazing!

    • @luche4606
      @luche4606 3 роки тому +1

      Most if not all of these skills originated in elite gymnastics (the level that gymnasts who go to the Olympics compete on). You rarely see skills like these in NCAA because it’s not worth the risk. NCAA is on a perfect 10 system and there’s a max score (a 10) you can get but elite is not on a perfect 10 system. There is an execution score (out of ten and you get deducted for mistakes) and a difficulty score (there is no limit and each skill has a value and they all get added up) which get added together for your final score. If you get a 9.8 on execution and have a 5.00 difficulty (which is pretty good) you would have a 14.8 overall. Since there is no max score for elite there is more incentive to do more difficult skills for a higher score.
      Even if NCAA athletes are using these skills in their routines, overall the difficulty is much lower because they have fewer required skills and the routines are much shorter. All lot of the time they have one “hard” skill and the rest are normal NCAA skills.

      Mykayla Skinner, for example, did the hardest ncaa floor routine and kept doing the tucked double double because she likes to do difficult skill and to not get bored as well as keeping herself up for the tokyo olympic comeback, Even with that more difficult than usual ncaa routine, her execution was good enough for a few perfect 10 as well as good enough for ncaa floor champion.
      Seeing that Sunisa Lee hasn't ruled out a Paris 2024 comeback, I wouldn't be surprised if she will keep some of her higher level skills in her ncaa routine as long as she can keep a good execution.

      same skills performed by elite gymnasts, definitely more frequently done by elite gymnasts. some of them are very common. There are ways to be on ncaa and olympics team (verry verrrrry rare for USA considering their depth and talent) but brooklyn moors is going to Canadas. At the point they are at, they probably could not compete with elite gymnasts. their routines are much shorter, easier and have different requirements.

  • @anettkruus

    How is it that they stick almost every hard skills at college and not so many in elite?

    • @luche4606
      @luche4606 3 роки тому

      In NCAA there is a perfect 10 score system (out of 10, you get deducted for mistakes) and to get a good score you have to have to be perfect. In elite there is an execution score (out of 10) and a difficulty score (unlimited, all the skill values get added up for the score), these are added together for the final score. If you have high enough difficulty then you don’t need to have perfect execution because your difficulty score will make up for it. This is so that there is variation in routine composition and drives skill evolution. There are many skills we wouldn’t have today if not for the elite scoring system.
      There are also fewer skills in NCAA routines so there are fewer things to worry about. It’s easier to get a perfect 10 with 4 skills instead of 10 because there’s fewer places to mess up.
