Season 7 Episode 7
Today I’m joined by Professor Steve Peters. He’s a world renowned psychologist who’s dedicated himself to understanding the way the human mind works. He’s worked with elite athletes like the Olympic cyclists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, 5-time snooker world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, as well as the England football team, to help them overcome mental barriers and optimise their performance. He’s best-known for his book, 'The Chimp Paradox', which has sold millions of copies worldwide. The book gives us a mind management approach based on the idea that there are three forces which govern our brains. The emotional and primal 'chimp' is impulsive and often anxious, while our inner human is calm, logical, and rational. This system can help us better understand our behaviour and handle moments of stress and difficulty. In this episode we’re going to talk about how to use the Chimp Model to change your life, and how it can revolutionise the way you see yourself and others. You’ll get an insight into Professor Steve Peters’ world renowned coaching methods that have helped so many people lead happier, healthier and more successful lives. Enjoy!

I am in a very bad place, I have gone from high achieving to absolute bottom in all aspect of life. At 37, I wish to push through and fight for everything I want. I hope to implement what both of have mentioned.
@vinar4483 - I hate quoting a movie but it is true, "Hope is not a strategy." - Henry Cavill's character Mission Impossible: Fallout. It is true. Also, "Do or do not; there is no try." - Yoda (Star Wars: Episode IV). You CAN change your life.
For real. Believe you can, and commit to it full stop. Make it a yes or no question. Nothing in between
Don’t give up. Get back on the horse and get back to it !
Were the skies always cloudy? It sure weren't.. that means sun is coming with due time.
Being told to thank the chimp mid-panic attack was so funny it helped the panic attack😂 Looking forward to practicing these principles on myself. I need them so badly right now
Sounds like a great teacher, who supports, rather than imposes.
Steve Peter’s book changed my life in such an impactful way I cannot thank him enough ❤ so happy you’re interviewing!!!!
What's her name pls
Fantastic, I've been eagerly looking forward to this collaboration between Ali Abdaal and Professor Steve Peters! ❤
Ali, I just wanted to remind you that what you're doing for us with these podcasts are appreciated.
prof Steve is great thinker modern psychology and psychiatry . thank you for both .
What an interesting guest - this was great! Had never heard of Steve but took a lot from this. Some fantastic insight and interesting framing.
Excellent episode. I got both his books on my reading list now. I am just a psych enthusiast as I think the more I learn about my mind the better I can "manage it" . the chimp metaphor actually makes sense to me as a layman . it helps to be able to identify when it's the chimp making your life miserable sometimes. Prof. Steve seems like such a nice guy and I love the way he says "blimey" :D
I wish I was a sponge to absorb all the thoughts and information from this discussion. At some point I felt I was in a Maths lesson trying to memorise and then apply the formula of the module.
Great job! Good luck!

Love learning Psychology and Psychiatrist insight is just my cup of tea it helps us to explore more and know more. Always be a life long learner. However, I do feel that the host is always looking for answers outside himself yet he doing a really good job. I wonder where he has learnt the pattern.🤔But energy doesn't lie and its everytime I watch a video I come across. Otherwise its such a good bunch of good videos. Yes, the fridge doors. My late elderly Mum whatever I did was never good enough yet I knew what my Mums story was. However, when you know yourself and are built with good resilience and and strong values for me to hold not my Stepdads although I call him my champion he has raised me to know that I matter and I hold value which is valuable to myself and to what I bring to the table. Commitment & discipline is another one that I love too which I was raised with.
If you want to wallpaper the fridge door, do it with photos of people and pets you love. Great content.
Amazing, mind boggling stuff!
this professor is so great, solving centuries old puzzle
Great interview. Steve is new to me. Now I want to see more from him. He seems like a really good person❤️
Thanks for this video love the collaboration ❤
Excellent episode!!!
This is real informative, Ali! Love all of your content. It's authentic and simplified. Can't wait to read your book :D
Thank you Ali 🌟🧡
I took my time with this episode, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Excellent conversation
This video definitely helped me. I always criticize myself , and always very sad when my videos are not doing well. This helped me found a reasoning and how to manage this chimp in my brain
I have decided to watch every new deep dive episode you upload... ✨✨✨
All the best Ali ❤️✨
very fruitful interview, thanks Professor Steve Peters sharing
Professor Steve Peters book is well worth the money! He breaks the learning down into digestible and understandable parts. I haven't read any other book like it!

❣️✨️ Thank you very much 🎉 Have a nice and perfect mood 🌍✨️❣️
Ali donated 250K USD to Gaza from his YT revenue and I commend him for that !!
Commend
@@PMI551 True. It autocorrected me. I typed in commend.
How do you know that

Yes, he do. To help stop the genocide.
Exactly the explanation I needed to hear 🤓
39:00 Great parenting tip!
Great interview
With a lot useful information
Such good insights

Here in india , what sir is talking about is known from thousands of years , buddha said this , maharishi patanjali said this , than osho , j krishnamurti , sadhguru & almost everybody followed this understanding in their life & also they all passed this knowledge to us this for years & years 🙌✨💛
There is a saying from osho is one of his video , ' Peace of mind is a self contradictory statement , b/c where there is mind peace can't be there ... & This sums all what sir is saying that i ( life ) & my mind ( which is just the information ) is different.
It was great to listen to
Ali, lovely podcast as always, but why are you ads in the beginning and not in the middle or like a "break section for your listener"? Seeing that your podcast episode is almost 2 hours long? I am sure Huel and Trading 212 can wait till a mark where you are sure your average listener would like a break.
But lovely Podcast - I will most definitely take a look at his book.
This video feels personal to watch haha that’s why I watched it till the end so good
You should be happy ali ! This definitely help me
This podcast episode but also show in general is a master class in mental frameworks
Thanks Ali for your hardwork
Impressive!
Stop whining about the sponsorships, skip it if you don't like it but every episode is for free and contains more value than some books you have to buy. Just be a little bit more greatful!
No way! I just started reading his book this morning. 😂
If you have any questions on the model please just ask me
absolutely loved this episode !, such a big fan of prof Steve Peters from DOAC . Thanks especially for the last segment about trying to cope with the peer pressure and rat race being a med student!!.
Hi Ali, I wish to preorder your book but in India, Amazon shows the books as unavailable. Pls resolve the issue with your Indian supplier
Great content once again 💯
:') :') :') :')
Thank you for feeding my channel.
I always extract hundreds of Notes that I can transform in video 😂
Holy shit this resonates with me so much Gotta check his book
My chimp in my brain is too big to contain so thank you for the video
Recommend watching his interview on the Diary of a CEO podcast too. There’s 2 but the newer one is a touch better and the one I’m referring to. Cheers
What does Steven think about Tony Robbins changing one's state or controlling it?
Hm. It’s almost as if the 3 states of mind “rational, wise, & emotion mind” were already researched and discovered by Marsha Linehan starting in the 1970s and a deeply integral component of DBT.
The first comment is from me. Hope this video will be very useful.
Amazingly helpful
How can one train the chimp system to accurately make better feelings.
🤩🤩
My take aways:
1. the orbital frontal area in our brain “the chimp” tries to give us information only in an emotional way and its aim is to communicate discomfort to us
2. The chimp listens and accepts validation of friends and partners people close in our lives or a parental figure other than our actual parents like mentors
3. Mind = the chim + human computer (empty) we got fill it with the right thoughts and beliefs or modify it
4. Gremlins vs Goblins : goblins are beliefs that cannot 100% change we gotta work with them or contain them
Gremlins: beliefs and thoughts (negative) can be changed through work
5. The fridge door theory
6. Weigh yourself on values and principle vs external achievements and degrees
What about our Reptile and fish Brain we also got
protec your brain
protect your heart
protect your bones
protect your emotion intelligence, life
protec your mathematics
What to do if you have bad relationship with your parents? Recently found out my parents betrayed me, is dishonest with me. How can we manage this emotional distress?
You need to forgive them and your feelings will then move to a better place(peace). Right now they're are stuck in resentment, pain and unbelief.
Find difference, brain&rain
🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Sounds exactly like Plato's model of the psyche: the man, the lion, and the beast.
Where can I dive into this? Is there a particular book?
@@timr8456 I believe it’s in The Republic, maybe book 4

wow
Subtitles plz
Holy shit how many ads bro
Be prepared for a barrage of ads at the beginning
I am loosing control for always ,
I feel like he is the dad of jay shetty
That would be an epic collab/interview
Too much advertising. Almost 7 minutes of adds at the strat. Maybe there's more but im off
professor Peter’s states that success isn’t a formula. This guys thinking shit I’m advertising and selling success as a formula, stop crushing my business!!!! Lmoa
if u follow the principles of Prophet Mohammad PBUH u will nvr need lectures , tutorials , apps etc to move on in life
I disagree. That area of the brain is not lost. It can be activated.
He looks like bilbo lol
The amount of promotional content is truly obnoxious and the only reason I’m still listening was I was otherwise occupied and unable to change the channel
Shut up
6 mins and 30 seconds in the video I tapped to watch still hasn’t started instead your promoting a bunch of products! Not cool space these out through out the video
Without listening impossible learning in english.
Dude, I’m all for advertising but come on like who okayed this are you kidding me?
My brain control say control jobiden brain
I like your guest but am fed up with your advertising that u r passing in ur podcast
Hosted very valuable guest But unfortunately you have self-centered conversation to your own experiences and self-analysis rather than useful general rules and laws of psychology we can apply and use
He is a psychiatrist, no? Not just a psychologist.
You speak too fast.
Very outdated of 3 brains...emotions happen thru a network of brain functions
Same with executive brain
Dude, so sick of your freaking sponsor ads in the middle
Then don’t watch 😂
Dude, this is how FREE content on the internet is made posible. I’m happy that Ali has sponsors, that way he and his team can continue working on this amazing podcast. If you don’t like it, you can buy a book or pay for premium content. Cheers 🙂
I know but 3 continuous ads for 3 minutes straight ? He needs to take it easy on these. Maybe do it separately at different times during the podcast
I just unsubscribe because of the high number of sponsors, i hate this extra sponsor thing on youtube ,bye
You think he lives on air? Money has to come from somewhere and he bookmarks where it starts as well for you to skip. But no, "I'm so entitled that I can't bear the pain of clicking to fast forward on a video"
Hey Ali.. have been trying for ages to get in contact with you but my cold emails havenot worked at all..kindly reachout ..its vital
I love this podcast 😮🤍 tank you guys
