Mauras portrait in that time is fantastic, she should not in any way be hard on herself. In that time Sergant would have got an eyebrow in.. Very nice tuition going on there. Love how Maura starts to realise about quantity of paint makes a difference in her strokes so quickly and wants to load up then gets nervous lol. great Vid Michael one of your best so far..

Maura can really draw, she captured Brian very quickly. As ever, thanks for having meaningful art conversations with your friends. It’s also nice to see pleasant weather for painting outside. Last night we had the first dusting of snow on my local mountains, after weeks of wet weather. It’s been a day of fascinating light, especially with the low clouds coming through. Like looking at a huge black & white negative. It was too cold for much more than a few fast pastel sketches between sessions of walking to get to new views and thaw out. As ever, I really enjoy the different paintings you guys produce of the same location. The range of styles and the conversations provide great insights. 🎉

An exciting day, a video about three painters await us
chamberlainpaintings, Maura and Brian back from hiatus
Brian made the most of the view, materials raw
Had a Chilean guest painter, think she’s a southpaw
Maura made a gift to Brian, a portrait of him
Captured his essence, though he asked for a double chin
Michael forced Maura out of her comfort zone
Using more paint than she’d do on her own
    Interesting lessons and observations
    Pa-treon exceeds all expectations
    😁
Maura’s paintings amaze me at how she conveys a sense of depth and light.
Brian’s is very beautiful. Both of yours capture so much of the energy of the location. So beautiful and amazing. My most overused word.
That looked like a dangerous location to get to. Which is probably the most elderly thought I’ve had today. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛

Also 'messy energy' is another to take note of - not sure that i can use that for my more messy efforts. I think it would be useful to carry on this theme of painting with two or three artists as the interplay really works. Well done all three of you.

This was very interesting ... Waves although not easy definitely lend themselves better to loading the brush and moving quickly on the canvas to create the spontaneity and abstraction that waves have ... This was a great demonstration on loosening up to create movement , color mixing and reflected light also nice to see Maura a great painter willing to try ways to move the brush differently than her approach and see new insights

What a super fun painting session! It's a great exercise to paint something in 30 minutes or less. Enjoyed the way Brian opened up after being away from Plein air for a time.
Maura found a new route to her painting expression. Using a large brush and plenty of paint, huge luscious globs of paint and kind of rolling it randomly is so effective. I think it transmits the energy of the ocean. Good advice to limit the white as it sometimes gives a chalky look. Yes please. More of these!

This is the type of paint out I need, going along with someone that can really help steer me in the right direction when I start getting left brain detailed. LOL!! I will have to try the timer idea and just tell myself to think "studies" not necessarily finished work. If I can loosen up then I truly can have more finished works in the field that are spontaneous and fluid rather than clinched in details. Love, love this video!!!

This was fantastic! It was so much fun watching Maura try to paint in your style, Michael! I was smiling the whole way through! The pressure! I can totally relate to Maura and the fear of taking on so much paint! To be fair she does normally paint quite small and uses small brushes, but this was an excellent experience to loosen up! You have already started a new wave of impressionists that are admirers of your work and your personality. I really enjoyed this video and am encouraged to put more paint on my brush! LOL

  • @RobertHopkinsArt
    @RobertHopkinsArt Рік тому

Suggestion for your plein-air painting sessions and your easel: Consider using a 1 x 2 board that is about the width of your panel minus one inch on both sides, then attach some 1 inch velcro to the piece of wood and the other side to the back of your panel. Then, get an eyelet-hook at Home Depot that goes into the wood, no longer than the depth of the wood. Attach your bungee cord to the eyelet-hook! This will get the bungee cord off of the front of your board, plus it will give the panel some added stiffness. You probably have everything you need right now to try it out! :)
