- Macchiaioli Painters of Florence established themselves as true devotees of nature, they chose to paint the wonderful world around them with a new vision and approach to making a mark on the Art they loved to explore. Today they are receiving much deserved recognition as they are poets of nature. The group banded together by a common bond of working directly from nature, exploring odd and unusual perspectives of ordinary viewpoints for subject matter, their work would lead to many more followers in the Tuscany world they loved. This is so well presented. I did not know this group. Their paintings are superb. It seems that many countries in that time had groups like these. Germany, Russia, France, Austria, Italy.... its very interesting. Thanks so much for publishing this. Its one of the very good art instruction channel. So well done.

Hi. I have been watching your wonderful UA-cam videos. They have introduced me to great artist who I have never heard of before. Thank you. I live in rural China and try to learn about Chinese art. I would love to see you do a video on Li Zijian, whose work is along the same lines as many of the artists you discuss. There is an entire museum of his work in Changsha. All the best, David

I Macchiaioli precedono gli Impressionisti , aprono loro la strada. Sono contro le Accademie, amano la vita moderna , rivoluzionano il linguaggio pittorico. Il Caffè Michelangelo era frequentato anche da artisti stranieri (ad esempio Degas). Penso che i migliori critici d'arte siano gli artisti stessi e non posso tacere il fatto che Degas espresse la sua ammirazione per la pittura di Telemaco Signorini. È quindi tempo che la critica d'arte internazionale cominci a considerare , secondo i suoi meriti , il movimento dei Macchiaioli. Gli Impressionisti sono artisti ottimisti , la loro pittura è una gioia per gli occhi. Sostanzialmente ignorano il dolore, il dramma della vita, i problemi sociali , le vicende della storia. Non così i Macchiaioli che partecipano alle vicende storiche del loro paese ( vedi i quadri storici di Fattori, Lega, Signorini, eccetera), indagano i problemi sociali, la vita degli umili (contadini, operai, eccetera). Telemaco Signorini dipinge un quadro che descrive la vita delle carceri e un altro ,impressionante, che descrive la vita di un manicomio fiorentino. Quest'ultimo quadro attirò l'attenzione e l'ammirazione di Degas. Bisogna poi aggiungere che i quadri storici dei Macchiaioli che descrivono le battaglie risorgimentali non sono per nulla retorici, ma evidenziano il sacrificio, il dolore e l'umanità dei soldati, anche di quelli nemici. Questo senso di pietas anche verso gli avversari è un fatto che deve essere sottolineato.

Florence is one of my favorite cities and while, of course, I know its prominent place in art history, I've never heard of the Macchiaoli Painters. What a treat and eye-opener! Now I have to go back and find the café! ;-) As always, a well-done, simple but well researched and inspiring video. A real education. Thank you. Keep them coming!

Puoi sempre ammirare le opere dei Macchiaioli a Palazzo Pitti (Galleria d'arte moderna). Altro museo che ha una grande collezione dei Macchiaioli è la Galleria Nazionale di arte moderna e contemporanea di Roma. In questo museo di Roma è esposto un meraviglioso quadro storico di Giovanni Fattori: Il Quadrato di Villafranca. È un vero capolavoro!.
