She didnt fuck up. In grenade launcher training, they use these inert rounds filled with orange chalk. They're pretty flimsy, and do this occasionally. Sometimes the blow apart in the launcher, so it just spews a bunch of cheeto dust out the end.

My husband is 11B, and it happens that using blanks can cause weapons to malfunction. But what is important is that soldiers follow proper gun safety and clear their weapons correctly. Recently, there was an incident on base after EIB range qualifications. During evening formation, a young E3 thought it was a good joke to take another dudes rifle, unclick the safety, and fire the weapon. He did that and blank fire out. The weapon was not clear properly. In addition, the graders at the range didn't properly check to make sure the weapon was cleared. This incident happened in front of Srgt.Major.
This incident was considered a misfire. You could be stripped of your rank. The srgt. Major decided not to strip these soldiers of their rank but no longer could participate in EIB and were given extra duty.
A few years back, my husband had an incident with a private fresh out of boot camp. They're were practicing line drills and playing war games. The 1st srgt at the time told them to go into line formation. Almost everyone in this squad is an E4 and an E5, including my husband. The private was the only one of low ranking. Instead of following in line, he stepped behind my husband. When 1st segt order them to shot. The private was shooting blanks into the back of my husband helmet. My husband felt and heard it, and before he could react. The 1st srgt slamed the private into the ground. The other soldiers took notice and grabbed for the privates M4. That private got an ear full from my husband and the 1st srgt and was given extra duty and was taken off the lanes. When asked why he did it, the whole thing wasn't done out of malice. The private was just nervous and didn't think about where or who he was aiming at.

@@anastasiabryant2571 Well, not all NCOs are the same. Some are kinder some are meaner. The thing is, soldiers need to recognize all sorts of threats when it happens on the field. Regardless if it's training or not, the soldier's gonna get yelled at. For this instance, let's say a threat comes along for the training exercise. Failure to resolve this threat is an obvious no-no. Yelling at the soldier can give them a sense of danger and recognizes the threat more clearly. Being all soft around them will give off the implication that the threat can be seen as minor. For example, the firearm malfunctioned and as it is an M320 grenade launcher, could explode in your face. If you don't yell at the soldier, which the drill sergeant didn't the soldier might think that this is something that you don't really take seriously. However, the mindset changes if you yell at them. The pressure from the drill sergeant can help make the soldier recognize what the problem is. They don't have to be logical about the situation, they just need to know what to properly without slacking off and brushing away the problem.

The training round malfunctioned, he's telling her to back up so that they don't breath in the orange dust, the projectile usually bursts on impact showing the orange "smoke" (to show where the training projectile landed) however some are defective and crack due to poor storage condition or even poor handling. when the recruit shot there was a malfunction in the round causing it burst instantly and the orange smoke appears infront of them. They did nothing wrong, instructor is just telling them to back up from the orange smoke so that they don't inhale it, it was just a malfunction it can happen to anyone (not the shooters fault)
*Little 😅 edit* for those keyboard warriors that haven't been through any military training but still have the need to negatively comment about this recruit without having a clue of what's going on.
let's take it from the top.... (1) The video starts off with 40mm training round already loaded it's a M781 practice round, i know because it's the ONLY practice round authorized to be shot out of the M320 (2) the safety has been disengaged already prior to the start of the video (the weapon is live) (3) the recruit says "ready" giving notice of her intent to fire (4) if you look closely at the video, you can see the instructor is well out of camera away from the firing line... In my experience this is because he has already given the "fire when ready" authorization. If the instructor is that far away from his recruits when they have a live weapon, and he hasn't given the authorization command, then that instructor deserves to get canned. A instructor would NEVER and i mean NEVER let the recruits pop the safety on a loaded weapon, or even aim it down range, much less fire it if the range isn't clear, or all the safety protocols haven't been met. If this had been a safety issue where the recruit is at fault (which it wasn't) the instructor would be screaming at the top of his/her lungs and torn that recruit to bits. (5) You can clearly see the malfunction in the video, she was holding that launcher at the correct angle for fire, there's no obstruction in front of them that would cause the orange "smoke" or dye w/e you wanna call it to pop right in front of them it was a round malfunction that caused it to burst instantly when shot, true she jiggles the trigger but that's just because those launchers are a little more stiff than your average trigger, trigger pull on this launcher is 11-15 pounds. (6) Please keep in mind most recruits in basic training don't have confidence handling firearms, that develops over time (with extensive training) (7) Also he's telling them BOTH to back up because the danger radius on the M781 Practice Round is 20m/66ft that orange smoke you see in the video, is actually a non-lethal chalk powder it shouldn't be inhaled, it may cause respiratory discomfort, coughing, irritation to the eyes and mouth if aspirated orally. That orange puff is meant to work as a signal of where the projectile landed (it's easily visible up to 400m) However instructors do know that the SOP (standard operating procedure) for these specific situations during training is to back everyone away from the powder, until they are at a safe distance. (8) Recruits are trained on the "basics" these rounds VERY RARELY malfunction like this they usually just miss fire. Recruits are NOT trained on this exact malfunction, because this ONLY happens in training, this does NOT happen with live rounds. If this exact malfunction was to happen in a real combat scenario with an explosive round, they would all be dead and there's nothing you can teach them that would change that outcome. (9) So you can't expect them to act accordingly when they didn't have prior knowledge that this training malfunction was a possibility, she was perplexed at the situation like all the recruits in the video, none of them knew what had happened. This recruit did everything correctly, as soon as the instructor gave the command to "back up" she followed protocol to the letter, she reapplied the safety, she put the weapon down in a safe manor, with the muzzle towards the range, and she began to back up. (10) It doesn't matter how many times the instructor says "back up", you ALWAYS have to follow protocol when stepping away from a weapon doesn't matter if your a recruit, or an operator.
Sorry for the essay, hope the information helps... 🦭

She didn’t shoot the deck, it’s a “Cheeto puff” training round. The projectile is made of blue ceramics that shatter on impact and release a orange dust so you can see your impact. Sometimes they brake apart in the launcher. The reason he’s tell her to back up is because you don’t want to breathe in the dust.

The lack of any explanation in the caption makes it seem like there’s a live grenade in the launcher that failed to shoot out, and it’s gonna go off any second.

The reason the weapons instructor is telling her to put the gun down and back up is because that orange powder is really nasty. The weapon malfunctioned and he's telling her as calmly and firmly as he can so she doesn't panic to get away before she inhales any of it.

  • @originaldcjensen
    @originaldcjensen Рік тому +10669

    1. Weapon malfunctions in training
    2. Trainee, having never seen #1, looks puzzled, then to Sgt.
    3. Sgt starts patter without waiting for response. Starts with "back up". Then rapid fire "put the gun down and back up,
    4. Trainee hears command, follows safety protocol, locks weapon and makes sure it is stable.
    5. Trainee walks away less than 2 seconds after the Sgt started speaking.
-The weapon needed to be stabilized. You don't want to have a weapon tumble and possibly discharge toward trainees or Sgt.
    - commands are often repeated by those in charge.
    - I would bet that she and others watching will respond quickly if that happens again.

Apparently practice rounds have a flaw. If not stored right they can be borderline pre-detonation.
-Lady was just getting a grip on the grenade launcher. Getting into position ready to aim. Barely touched the trigger and it went off.- edit.
Round prematurely detonated not from trigger. But following launch. Supposed to land on the ground and blow up. Not detonate as it leaves the barrel. That's the design flaw of practice rounds. Misunderstood the issue.
Apparently thats a flaw of the practice rounds.
The rounds dump fine chalk in the air to help with training with accuracy and distance. But inhaling fine dust isn't all that healthy.
So the man in charge of training immediately gave the instructions to move away from the dust till it settles.
Trainee is confused but took the time to safe their firearm and ensure it was steady before moving away while following instructions.
Next they will explain what exactly just happened, and take 5 before trying again.
Sorry. I blamed the round for pre-detonation when actually it failed to travel from the barrel before triggering. Thus it blew up into a cloud of chalk dust right in front of the bunker.
Thankfully it didn't detonate in the barrel I suppose.
Chalk dust is still the reason for withdrawing.
