I've been on the water and outdoors all my life and nothing suits me better than this. It was always my interest joining the army or the navy but GW never crossed my mind till a few months ago. Game Wardens on the border with Mexico routinely assist the USBP and all other federal, state and local agencies with general law enforcement duties. This could happen weekly and consists of everything from stopping illegal smuggling activities to enforcement of trespass statutes.
Applicants must have successfully completed and have conferred a Bachelors level degree from an accredited college or university. Prior military or law enforcement experience is not a substitute for the education requirements.
I do not have a bachelors degree "yet which I am working on"" but I am a honorably discharged and decorated combat veteran with military law enforcement experience which includes direct combat experience in Afghanistan and Iraq as a Military K9 Law Enforcement Officer. It's a shame that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will allow an individual with a piece of paper that states that he or she has a Bachelors degree to be accepted to the Academy even though he or she may have never handled a weapon, never had any law enforcement experience, never served in the military or never had any kind of life experience even remotely related to this career field yet someone like myself and other veterans are automatically disqualified because we have not finished our college degree. I will say this and I can directly attest that most veterans, particularly combat veterans are the most highly trained, highly disciplined most capable and physically fit and not to mention the most honorable and dedicated people our great country has to offer. I think the great State of Texas needs to reconsider this injustice and accept military experience as a direct qualification to enter the Academy.
