We have labor day as a national holiday and public highschool because of it. This transition is set to be faster and more dramatic than any other previous industrial revolution. If the past is any indicator, without UBI the country will turn into a warzone as the laborforce continues to get automated away.

The UBI (Universal Basic Income) is motivated by the right arguments but it only provides access to the system as it is structured. You get an income. You get a check and then you have to buy the childcare, the education, the healthcare, all these other things that you need. So the check in and of itself is not transformative of the system that creates the inequities that we want to correct.

John Edward very reasonable misconception. In reality, competition among landlords does not cause significantly higher rates. If your landlord raises your rent by $1000 you can just go somewhere else where they don’t do that. Renting is not a monopoly/oligopoly. Landlords cannot/ will not get together and collectively raise their rates bc there are so many of them. Say they do, you now have a guaranteed income coming in so that you can move somewhere else

Andrew Yang, is a very c;lever guy from what I can see and can clearly think on his feet using all the empirical data available which is what the Commander in Chief should be really good at.

Gord Orvis Because an overwhelming amount of people were disappointed in what the political establishment had to provide for presidential candidates, so they took a bet on Trump despite his obvious flaws. This is understandable, and if people can’t wrap their head around that fact, that’s on them. The second reason, was how Trump portrayed his campaign, he promised to restore the vitality of the swing states manufacturing job loss (something Yang talks about frequently) so he gained an upper edge in those swing states. It’s quite a clear picture really. Polls alone show unprecedented amounts of democratic and trump voters who didn’t vote in the 2016 primaries coming out to support Yang. If he’s the nominee the Democratic Party wins. It’s simple.
Gord Orvis so knowing that sad fact it’s the democratic party’s job to minimize the support base Trump has by calculating how to present a vision that isn’t ideological and actually focused on the driving factors that led to Trumps election. So that the Trump voters who consciously know he isn’t ideal peel away to vote for the alternative. Yang is the only alternative who can win in my mind, would love to hear who you think it is.

It is easy to dwell on bombastic things Trump is saying from the book, but this is the longest stretch in the country's history since having a commanding General being elected to the Presidency. The last of which, Eisenhower, issued his famous warning of the power of the military-industrial complex almost 60 years ago. As unpleasant as the President's words are, it is a break from the generations of leaders giving a free rein to the pageantry of the military-industrial complex. As high sounding as Secretary TIllerson's words are, the authors made a serious misstep by not reflecting on the state of affairs of having the former CEO of Exxon-Mobil taking a worshipful position to defending that the purpose of the vast US overseas presence is somehow defending the country's freedom, even though the most direct tie would be to the corporate interests of the shareholders of Exxon Mobil benefiting from the overseas interventions going back decades. Someone must challenge that, we are out of Eisenhower's, all we have is Trump. None of the Democratic candidates, save maybe Tulsi, are going to challenge it. Bernie may try to, but won't be able to generate support to drive the change.

@@mosesking2923 The brilliant thing about Andrew Yang is he isn't raising income taxes or creating wealth taxes. Look up VATs. If you don't want to pay taxes to help the factory worker who lost their job, don't spend frivolously. Problem solved, and you get to keep most of your $1000.

I feel like Congress has ignored this group of nearly 100 psychologists' warnings, since the day Trump was inaugurated.
