What do YOU think is the best Coen Brothers movie? Let us know in the comments below!!! - Фільми й анімація
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion, Man.
+spuddie Fargo is great...but NCFOM is one the best movie ever made.
Nice one Spuddie!
+spuddie This is the best comment I've ever seen. You win. It's over, people. UA-cam is over. This guy wins.
+spuddie Yes!
+spuddie Niiiice, you beat me to it :)
I didn't realize there were so many Coen Brothers movies I haven't seen.
The Big Lebowski is the best.
I agree with you Peter. Though I saw Fargo when I was too young to understand what was going on lol. :/
+Peter Jason Quill Also, No Country wouldn't even pass the first round for me. This movie works only for Bardem.
+dennisrossonero The directing and cinematography are amazing in No Country
But it's a miserable movie
I don't really get it very much like I'm 16 and don't think I'm old enough to understand why it's funny
2 people with Big Lebovsky t-shirt.. I wonder what movie gonna win? Fargo of course!
Totally, this video is a nonsense! True Grit disposed so quickly? Also, the Tv Series is INFINITELY superior and better written than the Movie.
I think Ladykillers is actually really underrated, but against Fargo it doesn't have a prayer.
+Brian Hurst I love "The Ladykillers," but I'm a Minnesotan, so I have much love for "Fargo." That being said, my favorite Coen brothers film is "No Country for Old Men."
Adam Coffland There are so many good ones but if I had to pick I would probably go with these guys and say Fargo is my favorite.
have you even seen the original?
+Luke sol I'd like to, now that I know about it. But I liked the Coen brothers version, and thought it was entertaining. Not great, as their movies go; but still watchable.
Luke sol Was it made by the Coens?...no
No Country For Old Men is my favorite by far.
A few years ago I was Anton Chigur for Halloween. It was actually a good costume
+CleverLee_Dope It's by far the deepest film they made on so many levels. My favorite as well.
Also, the cinematography in No Country is pretty much better than most films made in the last 30 years.
+CleverLee_Dope No Country For Old Men is the greatest film ever made.
same
The ending is terrible but I still watch it probably once a year. As far as I'm concerned it would literally be perfect without that shitty ending. It was a holdover from the book that just did not transfer to film at all.
They should do best Scorsese movies
+joe smith easy - goodfellas
+Justin Not that simple - Raging Bull and Taxi Driver are better
That’s a long episode. I’m totally down.
taxi driver is easily the best
Goodfellas is the best
No Country For Old Men is one of the best movies ever made in my opinion.
Believe it or not, Raising Arizona left a bigger impression on me than No Country. Those dream sequences done with practical effects and the heave he does in his sleep?! Amazing!
O'brother where art thou...Cuz I'm a Dapper Dan man
^ That made me laugh.
+undead2live Having to choose between Fargo and No Country For Old Men? Damn! I'm in a tight spot!
+undead2live FOP? Thought I fall out of the chair!
My favorite was hands down, No Country For Old Men. I liked it because of the heavy symbolism that lies under the plot of the movie. It took me 3 viewings to fully appreciate and understand the massive depth of this movie. The villian terrified me more then any other villian in the last decade of horror movies. It will forever be in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
I saw Fargo for the first time this past New Years Eve and I fell in love. Between the accents, the humor, and the crime, it really stuck with me. The characters are so memorable and the humor is spot on. It easily became one of my favorite movies of all time.
Gotta say, Fargo to me is just an absolute masterpiece and my favorite Coen Brothers film. Stellar performances from Frances McDormand and Steve Buscemi, and a great thriller with some hilarious moments thrown in. Got to agree with the panelists on this one.
Inside Llewyn Davis
Old Country for Old Men is the movie I most want to see but never have.
do it. its amazing
its on netflix, so you could just get a free trial for a month, fargo is also on there.
It's breathtaking and beautifully disturbing, check that and Fargo out as fast as you can.
+Familyguyextreme
It says it's unavailable to stream, and so does Fargo :(
Don't get your hopes to high for No Country For Old Men. I'm not saying it's bad I'm saying it's a movie that almost requires multiple viewings to appreciate.
#1. No Country For Old Men.
The way the Cohens instantly pulled you into this dark and gritty world with these characters that just seemed so real and human was incredible, you truly cared for the main characters and you sympathise with them for their difficulty in handeling the extreme situation they've found themselves in, and the tragicly merciless villain played astoundingly by Bardem added some shocking reality to the story and proved that there is indeed true evil in the world and the lengths that this guy would go to to accomplish his mission were jaw dropping. The Cohens perfectly addapted a story that put us in this disturbing world that reminded us of our own world at times, it is indeed no country for old men.
I really needed this right now since I was just reminded how AWFUL Fan4stic was
I get it
Ahaaha I'm in the exact same boat
+Sammie Reads What a coincidence. Just watched ''Everything Wrong With Fantastic Four''
I get it
+Sammie Reads I think I've seen you before. :D
ouch. Lebowski is one of the greatest films ever made....not just by the Coens. It is one of the few perfect movies that could not be improved in anyway. Try watching Far go 119 times...
+MarshallLore I could barely watch Fargo once. Fell asleep. Love Lebowski.
I could watch 12 of their movies a thousand times, Fargo isn't boring. to each his own. lebowski is my favourite
+MarshallLore honestly i've probably seen fargo 119 times and i can watch it 119 more.
+MarshallLore i did.
+MarshallLore Fargo embodies brilliant filmmaking. Lebowski's an unorthodox screwball comedy that works but doesn't compare to the brilliance of No Country or Llewyn Davis. Just because its cool to love Lebowski doesn't make it the best. Still, they're all objectively terrific films.
It'd be cool if they were to do the same for Martin Scorcese fillms.
_Scorsese_
The best aspect of the this video is that there's no sign of Max Landis
Although I really enjoyed Fargo and The Big Lebowski, my favourite Coen Brothers Movie is Miller's Crossing.
Llewin Davis is my favorite but I think fargo and the big Lebawoski is pretty darn good as well!
I love the Coen Brothers and all their movies, but No Country For Old Men is one of the very few films I can watch time and time again and still be blown away at how brilliantly made it is.
You know what's sad? I was sitting next to Joel Coen in a diner. (I didn't bother to talk to him) :(
I know I'm in a totally different boat, but I think Burn After Reading is their best film
For my money, The Big Lebowski is the best of them all. It's strange, it's funny, it's endlessly quotable, and it's had easily the greatest cultural impact. I love Fargo, and there's no denying the greatness of No Country For Old Men, but Lebowski has become the ultimate cult classic. It's instantly recognizable, it has a dedicated fanbase, it has inspired books, festivals, even the pseudo-religion of Dudeism. And above all, it gave us one of the most complexly simple characters in cinema, The Dude. The Dude is Coen brothers incarnate. He's the ultimate slacker, but he's found a sense of nirvana in it. He may appear stupid on the surface, but he has the wisdom not to let anything get to him (he abides). He seems to glide through his life, but not without caring about the events that transpire. In the end, the Dude has found what we all hope to someday achieve: the strength to change what he can, the patience to accept what he cannot, and the wisdom to know the difference. I won't say hero, because, what's a hero? But sometimes there's a man, and I'm talking about the Dude here... well, he's the man for his time and place.
Ah, hell. I lost my train of thought. I done explained him enough.
I love that No Country went up against Raising Arizona. In some ways they're the same movie, except one's a comedy and one's a dark gritty thriller.
My favorite is easily the big lebowski. Like pulp fiction, the dialogue is so perfect that it resonates long after you see it and you almost miss it after its over. You want more conversations with the dude and Walter like you wanted more conversation between Jules and Vincent. The Dude and Walter aren't just one of the best duos in the a coen film, but really in film history.
The Dude does NOT abide.
You guys should do this with Pixar's 16 films. The competition would be tight with Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Wall-E, and Up.
Fargo is definitely a good middle ground of what a Coen Brothers movie is and has a range of all the elements of their other movies. It has a dark theme with some clever situational comedic elements that come across as funny without taking away from the seriousness of the situation.
Fargo truly represents a Coen bros. film. It is both a hilarious comedy & a dark tragedy at the same time. Some will say it isn't their best, but it is best representative of the Coens.
My favourite one is Miller's crossing. And you should do one of these for scorcese movies
+King harry easy - goodfellas
mtwtf4207 Goodfellas is great but my favourite is The Departed
I can't stand departed because dicaprio, marky mark and damon are effeminate male models, not tough at all.
mtwtf4207 Well that's just like your opinion man
check out "king of new york", shits all over departed
Garfield. Goodbye.
That wasn't made by the Coens.
Robo Cop
I feel like explaining would defeat the purpose, so just know that you failed.
Darn.
Robo Cop
It's okay, son. Someday you'll know the things.
Yes, dad...
I didn't think this would leave me as conflicted as it did. It's so easy to forget just how large the Coen Bros filmography is, and just how many great films they made. I don't think I could ever pick a single favorite.
No Country: my favorite to watch alone.
Lebowski: favorite to watch with friends.
Fargo: best introduction to the Cohens.
None of the 16 movies best represents the Coen brothers because they're all so different.
I think inside llewyn davis is the best
If you haven't seen No Country for Old Men, SEE IT. It's amazing and will eternally resonate with you after you watch it.
Watched no country for old men when I was a teen and I didn't understand why it was so acclaimed. 6 years later I decided to give it another go.. I now realise it is a Coen brothers cinema masterpiece
A serious man is my personal favorite. I think it's very underrated.
This video made me realize...I've never seen a coen brothers film.
they're good
+trd 12 that's debatable.
Victim of Lag what Coen Brothers movies have you seen?
You're missing out
trd 12
Fargo, True Grit, and The Big Lebowski, the 3 so called "amazing movies". I'm still going to watch Hail Caesar, and at some point I'm going to get around to watching No Country for Old Men.
I think the car salesman blunt his pencil so he could send an illegible list to the bank is one of the funniest scenes I've ever watched.
Thank you guys! It's been a while since I wanted to watch some Coen Brother's movies, but I didn't know where to start. Now I know :D
I didnt think The Big Lebowski was that great, maybe I need to re-watch it
+Alex Dixon - nobody likes it the first time. In fact, most Coen brothers movies are that way.
+Alex Dixon yeah well that's like...your opinion man
+Alex Dixon When I saw it first, I was like "yeah that was an ok movie, some parts were fun". Then I saw it again, and again and again, it's my favorite movie now. And I don't have any favorite band or book or song, the only certain thing in my life is this, The Big Lebowski is my favorite movie.
Alex Dixon Same here
Alex Dixon
Yea, well, like, that’s just your opinion, man.
Although I really like Fargo and No Country for Old Men but when I think of a Coen Brothers film I think of the Big Lebowski
The fact that most of the decisions needed a tie breaker tells me just proves how great their filmography is. Really great ratio of good movies vs bad ones.
That Fargo vs No country for old men round killed me what a hard choice
The correct answer is 'The Big Lebowski'.
Fuckman, if big Lebowski doesn't win, I'm going to do something drastic
Like, maybe, smoke a joint and go to In and Out for breakfast
My protest against this unjust decision starts!
Like, nowish?
[remember, NO ONE messes with The Jesus]
+Max Hollenbeck Thank DOG somebody finally said it! Thank you Max.
when "No Country" revisits the crime scene in the desert...TLJ makes you feel as smart as his character is. When he realizes how it went down, you feel like a sheriff too.
Inside Llewyn Davis. That's one of those timepiece movies you only get once a decade. Great performances, cinematography and dialogue. And you gotta love that cat :)
No Country for Old men and Raising Arizona are my faves
Fargo is really ranked number one out of all of their movies? Maybe its because I'm from Minnesota but I've never really been a fan of Fargo. Not to say its bad but its hard to believe that its ranked number one.
+Th3_What I'm from Minnesota (damn, we just got even more snow), and I think I appreciate that film even more because of it. Though, I do know plenty of people who are offended by it, because they're Minnesotan.
+Adam Coffland I'm not offended by it I just didn't like it compared to other Coen bothers films. I've traveled around the country quite a bit and when I tell people I'm from Minnesota more than half of the people say something like You betcha with a smile on their face. Maybe that's a reason for some of my hate but at the same time it shows how popular Fargo really is.
+TripleA Not quite. I'm not insulted by the film I just didn't like it as much as other Coen Bothers films. I guess I wasn't as clear the first time I said it.
+TripleA I never said I was annoyed. I may roll my eyes because people watch Fargo and think that's how people from Minnesota act but since we are talking about this and I'm actually giving it some thought it doesn't affect me.
+Th3_What If people think that you guys act like Marge, then you should feel honored. She's one of the greatest characters ever! Absolutely amazing.
Scott's favorite Coen Bros movie is Inside Llewynn Davis. Smart man
Llewynn Davis vs Big Lebowski? This positioning is not fair.
I had completely forgotten about The Man Who Wasn't There, and Serious Man. I think I may need to re watch all of these now - damn Coen Bros have made some good films!
Can you do one of these for Scorsese?
Maybe I need to watch it again but I think Big Lebowski was overrated
+Stonewall Sweet Because people who don't share your opinion have the wrong opinion.
It's okay to be wrong
It didn't really make any sense. I felt like everyone in the movie was either stoned or had mental handicaps
+Stonewall Sweet And we all think you are or do.
+sinsofmemphisto insult well crafted
I think The Big Lebowski is the best Coen Brothers movie, and I'll tell you why: It's because I caught the edited for TV version on Comedy Central at some point. I probably came in about halfway while John Goodman was interrogating some kid. So a few minutes after that I was treated to the completely surreal scene of John Goodman smashing up a car yelling, "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FIND A STRANGER IN THE ALPS!"
I later watched the real thing and loved it in a more traditional way, but for providing me the most surreal moment of my early teenage years, I will always love the edited for TV version of The Big Lebowski.
No Country For Old Men for me. Based off of a great book by a great author and then made for film by the Coen Brothers, you can't get any better than that. Great tension and suspense, excellent social and moral commentary throughout, oh and great acting from all the main cast.
No Country for Old Men is a highly overrated movie ruined by it's horrible ending
To each his own
+Enchantment of Eternity agree 100%
+Enchantment of Eternity called a realistic ending
One thing they teach you in script writing classes is that what's realistic and what's interesting to see on screen aren't always the same thing.
No Country is not one of my favorites, but I respect the hell out of it, and the thing that makes it, and the Coen brothers, great, is that they do bold, unique things you won't learn to do in a class
Just one man's POV (mine), but the fact that somehow a piece of art as toweringly good as "No Country ..." could somehow be given a silver medal here leaves one fainting away. Not only does it deserve top place by several levels on a Coen Brothers list, it is, in my mind, very possibly the greatest film produced in the 2000's. Fargo (which I quite like) would be 2nd, but by a vast distance of separation. Out of recognition of a true cinematic masterpiece, was compelled to post.
This made me realize how few of their movies I have actually seen. I have to get my life together!
This is the toughest of these I've seen. So much gold. Gold everywhere!!
All-star guests. Love seeing Mantz, Malone and Dan any time!
I've only seen two of these. I think i'm gonna have a Coen marathon this weekend!
Damn, makes me want to watch all their movies all over again... What a Filmography, such variety but still the distinct Coen Brother feeling to all of them. Let's wait for Hail Caesar! perhaps it can topple the throne?!
Always great seeing Alicia Malone!!
O Brother for me. After looking at all the Coen Brothers movies together on this list its clear that they make movies that I don't like at first but grow on me over time. O Brother is the best example of that.
I love these types of screenjunkies shows, keep it up
My favourite Coen brothers movie has to go to No Country For Old Men. The first time I watched that film, I could NOT take my eyes off the screen. I had to see every single scene, every single detail. It disappoints me when people say that they didn't like the ending, the ending is what made me look back at that film and love it even more. The Coen brothers took a chance with leaving the film somewhat open ended and it's rare to see film makers take that chance. It's a bold and daring movie with probably one of, if not, the greatest, most terrifying movie villain of all time. Perfect movie in my opinion.
This may have been the best bracket episode of the Screen Junkies Show ever. Toughest decisions I've ever had to make.
That really was entertaining to watch and even follow along with placing my own votes. My votes concluded with my winner, "THE BIG LEWBOWSKI" ... "The rug, it really tied the room together."
I love these director bracket showdowns, please do more!
Good battle. I would've had Mo Country for Old Men but it's really difficult to really filter so many great movies. Love you screenjunkies!!!
I saw O brother where art thou in a sneak preview, and went in blank. I had never seen a Coen brothers movie and was very pleasantly surprised. I love that movie.
"We are going to hear a lot about that one." ~ Dan Murrell YOU DARN RIGHT!!!! HOW DID MILLERS CROSSING GET KNOCKED OUT THERE????!!?!?!?! WHAT THE HECK?????
I haven't seen nearly enough of these , I'll have to check them out
I love both Fargo and No Country for Old Men. Fargo is the first movie that introduced me to a proper Black Comedy/Gallows Humor while No Country For Old Men introduced me to one of the most twisted villains of all time, Anton Chigurh.
I really love these match up videos!!
Miller's Crossing is my favorite Coen Brothers movie. I love The Big Lebowski, Fargo and No Country For Old Men, but Miller's Crossing is my favorite. Probably the best performance John Turturro gives in any of the Coen Brothers' movies, which is saying a lot because he's amazing in every Coen Brothers movie he plays in. Miller's Crossing is a great mob movie, with great dialogue, some good dark comedy and very gripping plot. Some people may not love it, but it's my favorite.
Sad that Miller's Crossing got eliminated so early. The look, the feel, the characters, it's like they made a Coen Brothers Irish Mob version of the Godfather. Serious Man was the first Coen Brothers film I saw in theaters, and it haunts me to this day. That being said, I have the most cliche opinion of the Coen collection. The Big Lebowski took a genre I grew up with, crime noir, and gave it characters who I would have never put into such a movie, and it worked SO WELL. I was 5 years old when I first saw it. I loved it then, and I love it now. It should have become overplayed, or overrated, but I honestly can understand completely the fanatical love of it. It's a masterpiece.
I loved this video! It's inspired me to re-watch some of these gems.
1. The Big Lewbowski
2. No Country For Old Man
3. Fargo
4. O'Brother
HOW COULD MILLER'S CROSSING GET KNOCKED OUT?!?!?!? Eddie Dane anybody? Come on! John Turturro performance when he's got the gun to his back?
Haven't seen all of them. But I thought, "the Man Who Wasn't there" was a real piece of art. And I have always loved The Hudsucker Proxy!
+Stefán Atli Jakobsson O Brother where art though is fantastic as well. I have never seen a bad Coen movie.
I've seen like 4 of these. No Country, Fargo, Barton Fink, and Raising Arizona. I didn't realize they even had a connection..
Love it when Scott is on the show, the man is legit! I don't think I've seen any of these movies now that i think about it... I might wanna check this Lebowski thing out!
Not only is Fargo my favorite Coen Brothers film, but it's one of my all time favorite films. Every time I see it on TV I immediately put it on.
1- O Brother Where Art Thou
2- The Big Lebowski
3- No Country for Old Men
4- Fargo
5- Barton Fink
6- Miller's Crossing
7- True Grit
8- The Man Who Wasn't There
9- Raising Arizona
10- Blood Simple
(Full disclosure, I have not seen "A Serious Man" or "Llewyn Davis" yet. Or "Hail Caesar" for that matter)
i've only seen True Grit and Llewyn Davis and out of those two i'd have to go Llewyn because it had such an amazing impact on me being a struggling musician myself. It got me into folk, and it showed the public the other side of the music industry which is the people who don't make it which i thought was important. and that scene when Llewyn gets mad and says that playing the guitar is his job still sticks with me
Can we talk about their shirts? Cause they are badass! :)
Personal top 5:
1- The Big Lebowski
2- The Man Who Wasn't There
3- Fargo
4- A Serious Man
5- No Country For Old Men
What an incredibly hard question. There are so many of their films I love and you guys reminded me of all the ones I still have yet to see. If I'm being honest, you guys got it right with Fargo. However, for me personally, I've got to go with O Brother Where Art Thou? It was my first experience with the Coen's when I was a kid and I loved from the first viewing. Add to that the fact that I got to sing "Man of Constant Sorrow" in high school drama and I'll need to chalk that one up as my favorite.
Inside Llewyn Davis is such an amazing film! The soundtrack was incredible (especially please Mr. Kennedy) and Oscar Isaac gave such a great performance!
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou always wins, in my book. i guess half of the reason could be sentimental reasons. it was my grandfather's and i's favorite movie to watch together, and he would always sing along to the soundtrack anytime we'd go anywhere in his truck.
currently at the 10 minute mark and realizing that My two favorite Coen films (Big Lebowski and Llewyn Davis) are about to be head to head together hurts.
Inside Llewyn Davis is my personal favorite as well... Oscar Isaac should have been nominated for sure. Great film... the melancholy, the subtlety... absolutely perfect
So, my two favourite Coen Bros. movies are Oh Brother! and The Big Lebowski. However, Dan the People's champion has spoken. And, I respect his decision. Fargo, for it's comedy and representation of Coen Bros. work. I'll allow it!
No Country is the best adaptation from book to movie that I've ever seen.
