How is Ebrahim Raisi a tyrant? He is a democratically elected ruler of his country and whether people like it or not mandatory hijab has been the law in Iran since the Constitution of Iran was written. He's only doing what an American president would do if faced with a similar uprising against laws that everyone in the country voted for. Lots of people forget that the majority of Iranians voted for the current constitution and support mandatory hijab. How can you legitimately say this? The foremost female scholar in Islam is from Iran and lives and practices in Iran... There are many many other examples in Iran itself...
@Zaydan Naufal I don't care about progressive or Albania. We were talking about female role models. Iran has cultivated some very unique female role models in the world. Including the woman closest to assuming the role of Ayatollah for the first time in human history.

From Europe: being 73-year old and partnered/later married with an Iranian Shah-refugee since 1979, this interview took me back to those times. I remember clearly that my Iranian students and friends precisely predicted the terrible development pictured in this interview (and no, they were not all communist/socialist adherents). There was one student (male of course) who dared say in our discussions: "But women are human, too".; he almost did not make it home for being so condescending😃 That whole development is one major reason, why I never visited my in-laws in this essentially beautiful country, but only ever met them when they traveled here - I refuse to wear the symbols of an oppressive regime.
I thank you so much for resisting to that nonsense. I escaped from that horrible place 35 years ago 😮 those women are the new generation with no future. The law says the value of a woman is half of a man. I am fighting with that ideology to the end of my day 😢

I mean they wanted her to wear a headscarf in New York for the interview. New York! Are you serious Iranian rule doesn't even follow into New York what the heck?!
It's amazing and somewhat ironic that women in India and France are fighting for their rights to wear the hijab and in Iran women are fighting to not wear it. The difference between Iran and the others is that Iran is forcing women to wear it when in Islam it is required to wear the hijab and dress modestly however one should not be forced to wear it. The sad thing about this is that Iran is getting so much coverage while India and France are battling this with little to no media/world wide coverage. Justice for the 22 year old lady.

Amanpour, by refusing to wear a headscarf, spoke for those that have no voice. She is a hero. Peace ✌️
SHE IS A VICTIM
I think the little Iranian President thought that because she is of Iranian descent that she should “know better “ and want to make an example of her
I know a lot of insecure little men like this man
Meh...for me it's Mary McAleese, who went to Saudi Arabia and refused to cover her head. She pointed out she was the President of Ireland on a diplomatic visit and therefore not subject to sexist religious rules
Not really, she refused a request from a foreign leader in her country. It’s be another thing to do that in Iran.
@@greglinsmythe3375 She was born in London, has an English accent, and the interview was in New York. It's not "her country". What am I missing? 🤔
Great job Trevor for not interrupting her and letting her speak.
Some hosts are fixated on getting their questions out and not listening.
You're funny, smart and respectful. Hard to find.
The worst part is, Trevor is a comedian, not a journalist. And he's better than the whole lot
@@lenawagenfuehr53 : There are so many true journalists still in existence. The act of interrupting a guest and talking over them has actually started on FOX with Bill O'Reilly and has continued onward by that same network. And those people ARE NOT REAL JOURNALISTS. They are the epitome of "fake news" opinion propagandists. They get lavishly paid to sow disinformation.
Well described 👍
Christiane Amanpour is always providing the highest standards of journalism!
I've been living in the United States for 30 years, but in the end of 80th, in the Soviet Union, during Perestroika, all of a sudden CNN was shown by Soviet television! That was the first time we started to see Christiane's international reports from the war zones and fell in love with her! She was the fresh air in the secluded country just taking the iron curtain off!
We still love you, Christiane Amanpour!💖
Being from Bosnia and Herzegovina this woman is my personal hero, one of the few speaking truth and not turning her back on us like many others. I don't have many wishes but meeting Christiane would be a childhood wish come true.
I am so proud of her and what she did. She stood up for all women and for democracy.

And power to the people of Iran.
Its nothing funny or laughable when 41 people have died in protests. I guess its all okay for trevor and his dumbed down audience for whom everything is a joke.
Christiane Amanpour is one of my favorite journalists. She was an extraordinary war correspondent & slowly came out of the field & has had her show for many, many years. Knew she was of middle eastern ancestry, but to be of Iranian ancestry & be the extraordinary journalist she is speaks volumes abt her continued work ethic & her determination to shine a spotlight & tell the stories that need to be told abt #HumanRights .. #WomynsRightsR #HumanRights b/c women R people too. #ThankYou Trevor : #America loves you.✌🏾🌹💞🌹
I am glad you are covering Iran.
She is a voice for all women. I can't say enough how this is wonderful.
I've watched Christiane through the years and always so impressed with her knowledge of the world and her clarity in reporting the injustices.
She knows very well how to spin also, more than people are aware of.
Im almost 70....this uprising of WOMEN around the 🌎🌍 is NOTHING like I've ever seen b4....and in each country it's a different issue....we HV FINALLY had ENOUGH....r men that insecure that we've THAT much of a threat to them 🌹🌹💖🦋🇺🇦🇬🇧🇺🇸✌️🖖😁
Amecia will be showing it this fall. At the polls. Body autonomy. We are nto chattel to be slaughtered over headscarves or laws that will get us killed here either.
Hey i hear you and im not demeaning your experience. But unless you're from Iran or a place that mames or murders women unjustly..then thats a bit too polarizing. I get your 70 so you lived through oppressive men. So I'm not saying you'd wrong. Women deserve more. But they don't deserve to be treated like that in those countries. Women in the west are not oppressed like this. Its peanuts in comparison but no one should ever be oppressed. I'm 32
I appreciate your comment.
Be well Marsha.
Like Christiane said, they just need to take a cold shower. It's not just men in the Supreme Court and the Republican party that voted against womens rights to have abortions.
Yes! We are!
Hats off to her for taking a stance against such a tyrant & this was an Excellent Interview.
Scarves off, no?
How is Ebrahim Raisi a tyrant? He is a democratically elected ruler of his country and whether people like it or not mandatory hijab has been the law in Iran since the Constitution of Iran was written. He's only doing what an American president would do if faced with a similar uprising against laws that everyone in the country voted for. Lots of people forget that the majority of Iranians voted for the current constitution and support mandatory hijab. They just aren't upper class, don't know English, and can't move to the West so people never hear from them.
@@fark69 : Democratically elected in an Authoritarian country??? Where the so-called Morality Police can just pull in any woman, pass judgment, and exact brutally, excessive, death- inducing punishment??? Where is the due process in this "democratic" state???Total oxymoron. 😡🤬🤡

@@fark69 For Ebrahim Raisi to allow the torment & killing of his own people to keep going on is a Tyrant. If he was a true president he wouldn’t let what’s happening in country happen & by the way the reason she didn’t wear her hijab was because it wasn’t required to in this country, I’m pretty sure if she was in Iran she would have put one on out of respect to their culture, but he did what he did so he wouldn’t appear weak in front of his people.
Right on, Christiane! No one should ever tell any woman to wear a scarf or what to do with their body. Off with his heads!!!
Great interview, Trevor! You are so gracious!
The ladies were on Trevor's IG requesting him to give them a forum here on that issue..Am glad he did in a very smart way..not directly but through an interview..Excellent.

That president wanted to send a message to the Iranian women by using Christiane Amnpour but intelligent a she is, she disappointed him! Kudos to you ! 👏

it must be hard to watch your old home state. I just hope all those brave women build up enough pressure to break the current regime. When I saw the first video snippets on the news it just crushed me. It looks that they are so determined that they even risk their own life, on the other hand, it seems like a real fight or big demonstration is the only way to freedom from the fundamentalist regime.
AMAZING WOMAN GLAD SHE STOOD UP FOR HERSELF.

Can I just say thank you Trevor for such great questions! As a Muslim, thank you for adding that this is against a dictatorship regime not against Islam. It's about women's choice and thank you Christiane for standing up for yourself and Iranian women!

Tanx a million Trevor, we need all the attention n coverage of our protests here in Iran, on global scale
From Europe: being 73-year old and partnered/later married with an Iranian Shah-refugee since 1979, this interview took me back to those times. I remember clearly that my Iranian students and friends precisely predicted the terrible development pictured in this interview (and no, they were not all communist/socialist adherents). There was one student (male of course) who dared say in our discussions: "But women are human, too".; he almost did not make it home for being so condescending😃
That whole development is one major reason, why I never visited my in-laws in this essentially beautiful country, but only ever met them when they traveled here - I refuse to wear the symbols of an oppressive regime.
I thank you so much for resisting to that nonsense. I escaped from that horrible place 35 years ago 😮 those women are the new generation with no future. The law says the value of a woman is half of a man. I am fighting with that ideology to the end of my day 😢
How are you fighting from far away?
@@nightskylights4501 fighting with ideology by not letting it command their way of life , they aren't fighting with the regime but ideology
I just hope that men and women realize the United States are also are NOT fighting a Political Party (regime)...They are or should be fighting To KEEP the SAME type of Extreme Religious Ideology......from taking over the US!
IF you Agree that Women in Iran should NOT be forced to live their lives based on the Religious views...... of what Is or Is Not Moral.....
You should ALSO be fighting FOR women in the United States....who are Having their Rights, to control their own Bodies BECAUSE of Similar Religious views.... on what Is or Is Not Moral!
IMO.....The only difference between Iran and the United States.

While Christain Extremists Are TRYING to gain Control of the United States Government. They have already gained the Supreme Court and too many, School Boards......Which are Most Important Positions to Control.....

Women have the right to choose - whether its the choice to wear a headscarf or the choice to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
Unfortunately, no we don't. We absolutely do not have that choice. Don't confuse or trick yourself. Fight!
Somewhere in the World that is true. Here in America, things have gone down the wrong road, as far as women's rights.
Not in every country
its understandable to abort in few weeks but boy americans would even justify killing a 9 month old babies as if it took them 9 months to know if they want
Right even if it's wrong 🤷🏿♂️

I'm so glad that someone on a large platform is talking about the Iran protests!
The protests (and counter protests) were on every major news outlet and platform
The Iranian President just wanted to avoid the hard-hitting questions from Amanpour that's why he just reasoned that the interview will not push through if Christiane does not wear any head covering.
This isn't true. This is a request Islamic scholars always make when being interviewed by women. It has been documented historically for decades and probably longer.
She is rare in refusing. Probably if the news were not what it is not, she would not refuse
