What brand carbide tools would you recommend
2:45 Was that Terry Jones as Sir Bedevere the Wise?
Not intentionally :D
hmmm, no compass... but you have CNC... and you suggest that using a CNC could save time.... including programming and uploading and .......
Obviously one wouldn’t do that every time. Make a variety once and have them forever. Make your tools instead of buying tools. Use what you have.
If you’d rather buy and use a compass, do that.
You made the bowl in reverse from the norm (work on base first then the hollowing). The faceplate connection would be hollowed out eliminating the screw holes.
Oooooh, yeah! That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the tip!
If you dont have a chuck, you can use a glue block between the piece and the face plate. A sacrificial piece. The side towards the faceplate is the bottom and can be carefully parted off at the end, or near parted off and the nub can be sanded down.
Ah nice, that's another great idea! Much better than my approach.
I gotta get me one of those face plates for bowls. I did one of those dovetail holes so my chuck would hold it for my first bowl...and while it came out okay, I bet it'd be a whole lot easier with one of those large faceplates. I have a set of carbide tools coming. Right now all I have is an HSS set and no jig to set them in on my grinder for when they get dull. I just have a regular speed 8" grinder, but I can lower its speed by simply plugging it into a variac (Variable voltage transformer) and lowering its speed by lowering the voltage to whatever I want. You have a nice shop! I have a few shop tools, but most are a bit old, but work fine. Rockwell 9" contractor table saw, Master Mechanic miter/chop saw, Wen tabletop belt/disc sander, Skil tabletop bandsaw, Central Machinery mini lathe, Campbell Hausfeld 60 gallon 2 stage compressor, etc. but I have to keep it kinda small as my shop is a one-car garage built in about 1940. I did upgrade to a breaker box from the old fuse box in there when I added the compressor and then ran new 12/3 wire on 4 more circuits for 4 more outlets than the single outlet it started with, lol. Have it lit with a lot of 4' florescent tubes as it was a year after I installed them that the LED tubes came out. First thing I ever did to that garage though was paint the cinderblock walls and plywood ceiling white so it is well lit in there.
That toy with the ball, has anyone ever got it! It seems impossible to accomplish, however, watching it makes me want to try 🤣
Haha it's kind of addictive
We like your vids because they are great learning tools and funny because you are down to earth, not afraid to show mistakes!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video, Caleb! Thanks a bunch for the tips! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you! Will do!
I would be very impressed to visit your shop. Table saw, lathe, CNC machine, band saw, drill press, dust collection system. So many great tools. Can I borrow your compass? 🤣
Der hat echt die Schrauben abgedrechselt?
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Thanks!
Get a compass.
They're handy
@@YouCanMakeThisToo you can get one real cheap too
all those "expensive" tools in your shop you really should get a compass. It's sort of embarrassing you don't have one. Just funning with you.
Great tips - these pieces are awesome!
Thanks, it was a lot of fun! And much love for the wood honey!
We like your video very much, would you like to accept the cooperation? We do not see your email on the web, hope to receive your reply.
❤❤
Why can’t you use it for cereal
I’d rather a film finish than oil if liquid is going in a bowl
Watching the lathe is so satisfying!
Camera guy did a great job too
Interesting....I picked up a lathe a couple months ago and I work on my skills as time allows (yes, I suck). I have some 1' material (cherry) but no thicker material. Is it possible to glue (laminate the material to make 2" thick blanks or is that a recipe for disaster?
You can absolutely glue up pieces to turn. There’s a whole speciality in turning called segmented turnings where folks laminate different species to get cool effects
@@YouCanMakeThisToo That's awesome! Thank you.
Thanks for sharing those tips!
Thanks for watching!

You lost me when the music started. 👎
No worries man, plenty others stayed, I’m doing fine. Hope you find videos with music you can stand.
