    Simply using the recommended. Power Distribution Module would also solve this problem.
    Good video BTW!!

    I'd be very interested in any more Holley Sniper and Sniper 2 videos!! .. The original Sniper is still for sale at many outlets (at least on line)
    IMO It's not THAT much cheaper than the Sniper 2 .. that makes me think some people like it better.
    I'd like to know if Holley is still MAKING IT?? .....
    Or did they stockpile a bunch for customers who still want the original???
    Or is it just old stock lag online resellers have laying around??

    I recently battled RFI with the Sniper. Running the 12v ignition off of a relay didn't 100% fix the problem but it helped a bunch. What sealed the deal was isolating that circuit with a relay and a set of MSD Super Conductor wires. Thing runs like a top now!

    • @DirtySideGetsDown
      @DirtySideGetsDown  Рік тому +3

      Spark plug wires are definitely a top 3 fix for these things. Those will be talked about in my full RFI video in the works. The Super Conductors are a good option. A little better are Magnacor wires, but they seem to have zero desire to sell their products. A huge nightmare of a company to deal with but hands down the best wires to use with a Sniper.

      I heard the same about the Magnacor. Look forward to the full video!

      @@DirtySideGetsDown Not sure if I missed it when searching your channel, but I'd love to see a full RFI video. This one was a big help and it certainly seems there's quite a few of us rookies who have pulled our hair out dealing with RFI as first time Sniper / EFI installers. There's a few good articles out there but the suggestions are many and varying. A video, especially with anecdotal evidence regarding "I find XYZ to be the issue most of the time" (like in this one) would be of great interest. Thanks!

    Let me start, by saying I love most of the OEM based, EFI systems the hobby has used over the past 30 years. That said, for all of the money, Holley has thrown at the Sniper series, and all of the acquisitions of all of smaller independent legacy brands as well, I find the current RFI issue to be unacceptable... Obviously, this controller design and packaging is not as robust as it should be... I appreciate the "craft" enthusiastic users and quasi tech support independent guys like you, who really provide value, to the poor guys, who spend good money, and so much of their precious little hobby time, trying to troubleshoot a system, that has gone thru at least three major changes (sniper, sniper II, Terminator x, or whatever), and still haven't addressed this inherently unstable base design RFI vulnerability, it's plain pathetic. One has got to 🤔 think, a larger, remote mounted ECM, with the equivalent protective electronic filtering circuitry and a decently effective "faraday" cage design similar to what the OEM's have used for eons now, is long overdue.. You read story after story, of how guys buy these things, have problems, get help, buy the next "Gen", only to suffer some other drivability/reliability issue..

      The thing most people don’t think about is to make the sniper better it would have to cost more. The big mistake Holley made was trying to make an EFI system for under $1000. They did it, but it meant that it wasn’t great. If you go into a sniper knowing its budget EFI and are very meticulous with the installation they can be really good. Also, the sniper 2 seems to have really addressed all of the original sniper issues. I make my living selling and supporting these things and I have yet to have a sniper 2 have any of the issues the sniper 1 was known for.

      @@DirtySideGetsDown I appreciate your informed, honest and thorough response here. I have to admit, I have lusted after several cars/builds, on the upper end, using Terminator X, on multi port manifolds, with all of those (needed) accessories, and a pro tune on completion... Its seeing those hard luck stories, for the guy chasing the $1000.00 value install, that just bums me out at times.. Thanks for being a resource, for people who want to go down this road, eyes and wallet open, so to speak.. God bless...😃

    So… make sure the pink is clean. I think I can remember that😁

  • @Algorhythm24
    @Algorhythm24 Місяць тому

    Would it be advisable to add a fuse into the relay setup? Or, if I understand correctly, is the Sniper circuit already sufficiently protected by the 30A fuse between the battery and main relay, because the current flowing through the pink wire is only used a trigger for the main relay -- and thus never flowing directly to the Sniper. Thanks! Appreciate the great content.

    • @DirtySideGetsDown
      @DirtySideGetsDown  Місяць тому +1

      The pink wire should be connected to a fused circuit. It only provides 12v power to the relay, the Sniper itself controls the relay’s on and off function. The pink wire also turns the ecu on. It gets its power from the main power and ground, but the pink wire is what actually turns it on.

      I’d be happy to make a video about anything someone wants to see. I don’t think I am following what you mean by transferring database to ecu. Do you mean transferring the learn table to the base table? That actually would be a good video I haven’t thought of if that’s what you mean.

      @@DirtySideGetsDown thanks for the reply, yes, any tuning and controller operation videos would be a big help. I am new to the TBI world but I do a lot of programming on PLC controllers for commercial refrigeration. I’m very familiar with firmware upgrade, database transfer, graphing, and troubleshooting. I am curious what and how to get software for my laptop and how to run through all of the parameters, what needs to be performed besides, “just let it learn”. I’m also curious what is normal IAC, MAP, Co, during idle and cruise, and WOT. I have been a motor-head for over 50 years I just converted my SBC-302 from Holley 650 to MSD atomic 2 TBI, all this is running in my 75 Porsche 914.
      Thanks !!!

    MSD offers a RFI Choke that could be used in the 12v positive line.

      I am aware of those, but I prefer to actually fix the problem rather than just cover it up. Adding a device in that can fail, to me isn’t the best way to handle it when there are solutions that once completed don’t have the ability to fail and leave you stranded.

    I have a nova with sniper. Dealing with rfi for a long time now. Chevy small block. I have rewired the headlights ( LED ) to relays. The power to the sniper goes through its own switch direct to the battery. I have moved the sniper wiring around the engine bay many times trying to figure it out. Upgraded the alternator. Only thing i am looking into now is the amp for the sterio grounded to the frame causing a issue.... but i am lost at this point. Car doesnt always act up. But when it does it shuts down and wont start for a while.

    I'll stick with a decent carb, and enjoy the little quality drive time, I get to actually enjoy the drive. At least until Holley, or some new competitor comes up with something more robust, as to not suffer such basic drivability/reliability concerns, even when buy all of their ala cart solutions, and still need to go to UA-cam EFI University to have a decent chance to drive to a show or cruise night, and be embarrassed by coming home on a "hook".!

      The problem is nobody looks at the Sniper for what it is. It is a complete stand alone EFI system for $1200. If you want better then get a Terminator X Stealth. Buying a Sniper then complaining about it is like going to Walmart for a steak and then complaining that it’s not quality butcher shop meat. You didn’t pay for top quality meat you paid for a budget system.

    • @adamballinger1358
      @adamballinger1358 4 місяці тому

      You think 1200$ is a "drop in the bucket" well its not for most guys . If the sniper systems reliably did what they advertise there wouldnt be a problem . I think its more like going to the butcher for a quality steak and recieving a golden corral quality steak. Self tuning without a mass air meter bahahahahaha

    • @DirtySideGetsDown
      @DirtySideGetsDown  4 місяці тому +1

      I never said $1200 is a drop in the bucket. $1200 is a lot of money. What I am saying is compared to a quality EFI system it is cheap. Price a Haltec, Motec, Fueltech etc. plus a throttle body, all sensors and injectors then see how it adds up. The sniper has to be low quality to hit the price point. You will never find a for me free system at this price point. I have had my hands on plenty of these that were rock solid once I was done, they can be great when installed correctly.
