It was the only spot which there can be no doubt or dispute. That being said, personally I didn't mind their choices from about 5 up. The 80s is such an amazing decade, musically that the sheer volume of amazing artists must make it difficult to create a list like this. (Additionally it makes the sheer dominance of their number 1 choice all the more impressive. If she isn't at number 1 when they do the all time list something is SERIOUSLY wrong.)
I flew with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts back in the mid 2000's going from Denver to LaGuardia Airport NYC on Frontier. I was a aircraft mechanic for Frontier at the time. We had to go to NYC to repair a broken plane. The gate agent showed me the manifest that Joan Jett was riding (they have to use their real names, no aliases to fly per TSA rules). I was next to the boarding gate and gave her a little head nod in acknowledgment upon entering the jet bridge that I knew who she was without drawing attention in the boarding area... The other mechanic that went with me got to sit next to one of the band members and chatted with him the whole flight. The flight was full, so I rode jump seat in the flight deck... There was only one seat open and it was the middle seat next to Joan...I believe she bought that seat too so no one would sit next to her...so I couldn't either... That's ok though, the flight into NYC riding up front was a memory I'll never forget...
Side note, Paula Abdul was Janet's choreographer before she broke out on her own. Paula choreographed Janet's video "What Have You Done With Me Lately?"

Artin Avaznia yes, yes, yes!!!! That is soooo bulls**t!! Madonna should #5, all she did was sleep around to get where she did. The top 5 is sooo out of wack. It's pretty ridiculous!😡
Keep in mind the 80s only covers Control and the first two singles from Rhythm Nation.
Kim Filippi She definitely didn’t sleep around to get where she is. If anything she’s self made, something Janet wasn’t.
Definitely not Madonna has way more worldwide fame then Janet had
Britney bitch I’ve seen you on other videos and your like the biggest Janet hater. If it wasn’t for Janet we wouldn’t have had your ‘precious’ Britney Spears.
I would've like to see Marie Fredrickson of Roxette make the list.
I would have put Janet in top 3 personally, but 5 is nice. When you guys do this type of this list for the 90's she should definitely be top 3.
1. Cyndi lauper.
2. Annie lennox.
3. Whitney houston.
Good to see Madonna, Whitney, Janet Jackson and Gloria Estefan. But no mention at all for Debbie Gibson? Martika should have had a mention as well.
Olivia Newton-John should have been in the top 10. Also, I can't believe there isn't even an honorable mention for Sheena Easton, Belinda Carlisle, Stevie Nicks, Laura Branigan, Patty Smyth, Debbie Gibson or Tiffany.
Madonna better be #1 she is the fucking queen of pop
kate bush and grace jones better be on this list
Really good list. Wish it could have been a top 20.
OF COURSE MADONNA WOULD BE NUMBER ONE....
I'm on vacation with the whole fam, the girls are downstairs singing to 80s music, I've recognized, Borderline - Madonna, Wannabe - Spicegirls, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun- Cyndi Lauper
Help me
Born in 99 and I just found out I have a 80s and 70s heart
madonna is number 1, no one can compete her.
Ofek R Janet was keeping up with her
Madonna is the full package! She can sing, dance and is a perfect performer.
Madonna = Complete Artist and a talented Queen
halietigges Ehh, I love Janet but success wise I don’t think so
Damn Janet and Michael look alike 💕💕
YES! I love Madonna & Sade forever. Their music never gets old.
I'm still waiting for my top 10 janet jackson songs
MADONNA!
Fine list but Debby Harry should DEFINITELY be on the list…certainly over Gloria Estefan or Paula Abdul (who was only big for the final year of the 80s). Also Cyndi should be #3 or #2, and Tina Turner should be top 5 for sure.
#1 Madonna
#2 Whitney
#3 Cyndi
#4 Tina
Good list i would say Whitney was bigger in the 90's though
Janet should be #2
exactly
Yup
+Gwen Stefani Stan yes she should who is number 1
+Tia Wessells Madonna
I love Janet, but Whitney deserves to be on that place.Janet and Madonna both deserve to be 1.
the only right spot is 1
It was the only spot which there can be no doubt or dispute.
+kopitarrules Janet needed to be higher
+kopitarrules 80's is the biggest and best decade of music.
+kopitarrules She Isn't
+Gwen Stefani Stan I agree, she should've been #3. Annie Lennox should've been #5.
If Madonna wasn’t 1 I would hated it.
But still they’ve missed Olivia Newton-John and Cindy is too low
My number 1 is Cyndi Lauper
Darren M should be number 10 on this list!
80's is known only for THE QUEEN MADONNA.She is the Best in the whole world.
Really? The BEST? You're crazy!!!! There are LOTS of better singers than her!!!!!!!
Like Whitney
+Nashid Rountree Whitney Houston wrote 10 songs in all her carrer.
Madonna wrote 250-300 songs in all her carrer.
Juan Ramón Vides Vega that isnt the only way to have a successful career
Blanca Rodriguez yes. She can sing but other female singers are better like Whitney, Mariah, Celine and others
Today is Tuesday, December 15th,2020. Madonna is and will be The real Queen. 90s 2000s and still.
why is cyndi lauper number 4? "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is WAY MORE ICONIC than anything of Annie Lennox!
Lennox had more talent and even succeed solo and group. I'm surprised she's so high vs better voices Gloria, Tina, Janet
You guys need to stop. Madonna IS #1 and the other gals don't even come close.
Jakob Hopfer Madonna is #1 FOR A REASON
Baby Mario CONTROVERSY AND SEX
Olivia Newton John????
The queen!!! Madonna !!!
I liked when I saw janet jackson
Hope to see Mariah and Britney on top 1999s and 2000s list... they are the most influential!!!
i was a teenager in the 80s and i followed every move of these women, i was a witness of this era, nobody told me
May be you will be in the top 10 "witnesses" list soon. Congrats :). (Sorry for the late comment)
Kate Bush should have been in this list she wrote her own material and inspired todays female singer/songwriters
She's the best I agree but she was not popular in america as much
Side note, Paula Abdul was Janet's choreographer before she broke out on her own. Paula choreographed Janet's video "What Have You Done With Me Lately?"
