PAT BENATAR "Love is a Battlefield"/"Hit Me With Your Best Shot"/"Shadows of the Night" etc. I mean, come one, Benatar DEFINITELY deserves a spot on this list SOMEWHERE!
"Flashdance" deserves to be #1, this song is really amazing! "Like A Virgin" at #2, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" at #3, and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" at #4 💖

Hey Maurice DeShawn, Billie Jean was actually MORE important than Thriller because Michael fought for it so that it was the first music video by a black artist ever played on MTV. Much as I love Thriller, and I really, really love Thriller, overall breaking black artists onto MTV at that time was more important than a fantastic long-form video.

I’ve never been a fan of Michael Jackson as a person (nothing to do with the molestation accusations), but you can’t deny his talent with both singing & dancing. He has a string of iconic hits that everyone knows the words to.
One of my favorites from the 80s is Take on me by Ah Ha. I remember watching them on a Japanese show, Yoruno Hito Sutajio 夜のヒットスタジオ (night time hit stage in rough English translation). I LOVE songs from the 80s but my husband cringes at it lol.
I swear 80s has some of the best romantic songs. Just the quality is so breathtaking. I have always thought of the 80s as the dance decade as it has some of the BEST dance songs ever. Like...when you have movies like Dirty Dancing, Footloose and Flashdance plus big icons like Whitney, Madonna, Michael, Cyndi and many others....I mean how can the 80s not be the dance decade? 80s just rule.
NKOTB over Prince? No I don't think so, it's pretty sad When Doves Cry is not on this list. I despised Bon Jovi with a passion in the 80's but even that would be more in line than NKOTB.
I hated NKOTB back then as well. However they were so big, it was sickening. The girls in my school never stopped playing them. Found out putting the songs on were a good way to pick up girls though.
The 80's is my favourite decade of all time, I love any song from there that has the synthesiser noise and a really good beat that you can dance to: Hangin tough, Flashdance, Footloose and Relax by Frankie goes to Hollywood
The age of music sure has changed! I'm from the 60's through 80's - all during that time there were songs that EVERYONE knew. That is no longer today - the world has changed too much. Sad.
My top 15 music hits from the 80s are: 1: Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood 2: Thriller by Michael Jackson 3: Clones (We're All) by Alice Cooper 4: Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins 5: Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money and Ronnie Spector 6: Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant 7: Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder 8:Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler 9: Rock This Town by The Stray Cats 10: Love Shack by The B-52s 11: Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics 12: Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves by Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox 13: Batdance by Prince 14: Heat of the Moment by Asia 15: Kids in America by Kim Wilde
Listening to all the hits both 80's and 90's still makes me sad when I see Michael Jackson, still sad he's no longer here but his music will forever make my day, RIP Michael
Take On Me? Thriller? Beat It? Smooth Criminal? Africa? Working For The Weekend? Raspberry Beret? Time After Time? Danger Zone? Holding Out For A Hero? I Ran ( So Far Away )? Hit Me With Your Best Shot?
Here is mine: 1. Time after time 2. I drove all Night 3. Girls just Wanna have fin 4. True Colors 5. Altrough the Night 6. Money changes everything 7. Sally's pigeon 8. She bop 9. Hey now (Girls... 10. Change of heart
michael jackson should be number 1,2,3,4 and 5 on this list literally his best 5 songs were realized in the 80s: billie jean beat it thriller bad smooth criminal
to maybe clear it up, i was born in 81 and i definitely know who NKOTB is, but have never heard of New Edition. maybe that's why she said it? She may not have even heard of them.
Lol, when NKOTB themselves thanked New Edition for paving the way and they STILL get discredited. Just for fyi, for those who don't know. New Edition came first, their former manager realized the concept was money and as NE started to age up he decided to take the *exact same concept* and do it with "white boys" and went on to create NKOTB. So when I say they came first, I meant literally. (I didn't include Jackson 5 since they were more a band as some brothers played instruments)
Although he not in my generation of music artists, after he passed away,I heard Billie Jean and I teared up a bit,the man made a musical moment in that song,I dare you to not be nostalgic when hearing that song.Surely you will have a fond memory of it.
My personal favorites were always either by Phil Collins or Genesis. Land of Confusion, Invisible Touch, Tonight, Tonight Tonight, That's All, One More Night, Sussudio, Easy Lover etc.
For what its worth, did anyone notice that Madonna and Whitney Houston were on both this list and the Top 10 Pop Songs from the 1990s? Oh, and I know its probably because of a certain cartoon from the decade, but what about The Touch from Stan Bush?
Like a virgin is number 2 and girls just to wanna have fun number 3? Tell me that a joke , Girls just to wanna have fun is the female song with most sales of the 80s
The reason I love lists related to 80's and 90s: Has Madonna, George, Whitney, Mariah and the great MJ The lists are accurate because they were decades ago and weren't prediction like the 2010's because the decade is still running. They use resources from rolling stones and Mtv's and all unlike now how they use statistics from UA-cam views or itunes Those lists din't have Taylor swift or BEYONCE being praised endlessly because they weren't known luckily.
1: thriller
2: like a prayer .
3: girls just wanna have fun .
4: Billie jean .
5: like a virgin .
6: sweet dreams.
7: i wanna dance with somebody.
8: beat it
9: papa don't preach
10: total eclipse of my Heart
Sweet Dreams glorifies drug abuse.
And people question why I would rather listen to this music over todays pop 'hits' Love the music of the 70s and 80s

Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler ?
Yes!!!! Should've been at number 10 and a Take On Me at 9
Not really a pop song. Take On Me I agree with though.

There are only 2 singers that deserves the #1 & #2. The King and the Queen of Pop
That would be MJ and Diana Ross, not Madonna!
@@MrJon76 Nah maddona is queen of pop
They're MJ & Madonna, no less, no more.
Yes MJ and Madonna ruled the 80’s. I rly like them both.
I knew Michael would be first
It would have been Michael or Madonna.
It had to be Michael, his fans always freak out if he's not no.1 in a list. MsMojo doesn't want dislikes. Madonna could've easily been no.1.
So did I...how can MJ not be first on any 80s pop countdown?
For real!
OH sure it is! but I thought it's Thriller instead of Billie Jean though
80's songs and fashion trends that time were amazing.
Bright and colorful clothes and the hairstyles are fantastic.

Lulu Dre 80s were chock full of great bands and music. It was an incredible time for music makers.
And there is so many great lesser known bands.
Take On Me, Aha?
It's a great song but it's new wave.
The 80’s was a very good music decade with Linda Ronstadt, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Dolly Parton and etc.
You're damn right MJ is number one! who else?
Daddy Revan nah hes bad queen is better
No question about it. He will always be #1 followed by Prince.
Spin-Itch lol my fav band is the wombats but ok lmao
Hey MissMojo, amazing list, but Thriller was the most important songs from the 80's and from MJ.
It might have been important but Billie Jean much better
I was thinking "Beat It".
Hey Maurice DeShawn, Billie Jean was actually MORE important than Thriller because Michael fought for it so that it was the first music video by a black artist ever played on MTV. I would’ve picked “Thriller” over “Billie Jean” for Michael Jackson because of how much of an impact it made on pop culture.
I mean Billie Jean introduced Michael Jackson's moonwalk, it definitely had more impact than thriller both are great tho
Michael Jackson is the undisputed King of Pop.

I like Thriller more, but Billie Jean was the right choice in this case, since it's MJ's most popular hit.
i love Michael Jackson but i have to say ur wrong. its obviously smooth criminal!
Micheal is just #1
Where's (I've Had) the Time of My Life??
That song, "Time of My Life", was written decades earlier, duh.
I’ve never been a fan of Michael Jackson as a person (nothing to do with the molestation accusations), but you can’t deny his talent with both singing & dancing. He has a string of iconic hits that everyone knows the words to.
I would be so mad if Michael wasn't #1. He is !!
No list is a true list unless Michael is #1. The man was an icon. His music is timeless.
Best music decade EVER!!!

These lists are always predictable... Madonna #2 and Michael #1. (Not complaining though because they've earned the recognition)

I'm so glad you put Flashdance/What a Feeling on the list. That was the number one song on the Billboard charts the day I was born

Why Billie Jean? Why? Thriller is so much more iconic and just a better song.
Thriller was more iconic for it's video. But Billie Jean is MJ best song.
thriller a better song? lol, thriller is just so commercial... billie jean is a true funk track
serina sommer
Thriller is overrated and nowhere near as good as Billie Jean
I'm a Huge MJ fan but i honestly don't like the song thriller, i like the video but....
Billie jean deserved the Spot
Billie Jean is much better. The only thing Thriller wins against Billie Jean in, is the video.
Priceless!!
What about 1999 and When Doves Cry?
Definitely need those on the list
10 Pop Songs From The 1980s "What about 1999 and When Doves Cry?" because it'S probably gonna be on the 90's list
TheBstar13 1999 was released in 1982, and When Doves Cry was released in 1984 (yes, I just checked)
yes that is a great song.
I always liked Prince's songs over Michael Jackson's.
My personal favorites were always either by Phil Collins or Genesis. Land of Confusion, Invisible Touch, Tonight, Tonight Tonight, That's All, One More Night, Sussudio, Easy Lover etc.
WHRE IS JANET!?!?!?!?!?!
Watchmojo or Ms. MOJO has yet to do a Top 10 Janet Jackson songs....
Do they have something against Janet or is there a rule they have that says that only one Jackson per list?
+Husam Elzien only one Jackson per list is allowed*
+Husam Elzien mojo logic?
+Husam Elzien mojo logic? Janet could easily get the second spot with rhythm nation
For what its worth, did anyone notice that Madonna and Whitney Houston were on both this list and the Top 10 Pop Songs from the 1990s? Oh, and I know its probably because of a certain cartoon from the decade, but what about The Touch from Stan Bush?
this list is trash... WHERE ARE TAKE ON ME, NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP, TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART, IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE ?????????????
Like a virgin is number 2 and girls just to wanna have fun number 3? Tell me that a joke , Girls just to wanna have fun is the female song with most sales of the 80s
can do one from the 1970's
I don't know tons of 80s songs but Livin On A Prayer- Bon Jovi was really good.
Like a Prayer was the best 80's song of Madonna tho. Even better than Billie Jean anyway.
Illuminati King No
LOL You wish Billie Jean is master piece .
Great top 6 totally agree
The reason I love lists related to 80's and 90s:
Has Madonna, George, Whitney, Mariah and the great MJ
The lists are accurate because they were decades ago and weren't prediction like the 2010's because the decade is still running.
They use resources from rolling stones and Mtv's and all unlike now how they use statistics from UA-cam views or itunes
Those lists din't have Taylor swift or BEYONCE being praised endlessly because they weren't known luckily.
George Michael is the best of all time! Rip Yog!
