most of those expensive rain jackets are for alpinists or snow sports so you can do any kind of movement so they are actually exactly of practical use . Usually you also need impermeable pants alongside the jacket. If you want a long ass rain coat while you slowly move under the rain sure you can but you cant go climbing montains with it. Its also true there are people that pay 1000 dollars for the best arcteryx shell jacket just to do some easy hike lmao.

I accept I should be looking elsewhere if anyone actually did produce longer jackets for non mountaineering activities 😏
