    SHE is simply AMAZING!!! I love the way she makes it all so easy to understand and the pace is perfect! She is an expert so she could just do it fast and hope we get it or keep up but the sign of an excellent educator is one who leaves nothing to chance. I truly appreciate her abilities and love her personality as well. Kudos!! (and thank you!!) ... a new fan

    After I played around with my "makeshift" dowel I was able to get the tension working well. I ended up using a knitting needle with an old metal tape measure attached to the flat end of the knitting needle by a paperclip :) "When there's a will... Loving the process. Lovely again. That actually looks a lot easier than it has seemed when I've looked at kumihimo instructions - and not tried it out, LOL!
    I'm thinking that it might make sense to pull the finished weave through a drawplate to even out the bumps. I don't know if they are made commercially in an appropriate size, but it wouldn't be hard to make one.

    Thank you for posting your beautiful work. You make this look so easy with nice tension and very little bending of your wire. I made 12" samples of this pattern with single strands of 22 ga. bronze wire and smaller 'dowel', a coated copper wire. These practice samples made me appreciate your wire work even more. The first sample was abandoned. The second sample was a loose weave. The third sample - I tried to work the tension at the junction of the two wire sections at the dowel to get a tighter weave. Both of the latter samples made beautiful hollow woven tubes. Really like the effect of using the dowel that you suggested in this project as it seems to provide a nicer more even woven wire than I could accomplish before. ( I've tried tighter woven metal kumihimo before with and without beads, but looked too uneven and sloppy.) I have trouble with the wire bending too much when working it, especially when securing to the kumihimo board. Suggestions? I wonder if I make a kumihimo board with soft clamps (3-4 at each direction) to softly hold the wire and winding the wire onto a kumihimo holder would help reduce wire bending, especially for the longer wire for this bracelet or similar project. (Note: I'm familiar with straightening wire (including your great video.))

    • @SueAPerry
      @SueAPerry 7 років тому +1

      Hi L Col,
      There are some "double density" (double thickness) foam Kumihimo boards that may help hold your wires without bending or crimping them. The extra board thickness holds the wire more firmly, because there's more surface contact with the wires. Bead Smith makes them. They're my favorite brand for foam Kumihimo disks as their foam is stiffer than some other brands.
      There's also a great, 3-roller, wire straightener made by Beadalon. You can find it labeled under their Artistic Wire brand. The rollers are connected at the ends by hinged hardware. You fold the rollers around the bent wire and draw the wire through the rollers. Voila, you have straight wire again. It was designed by their product manager(?) Wyatt White. It's really quick and ingenious. Amazon has it for under $12, and 112 people rated it at 4.4 out of 5 stars. ... Happy wire-work.

    • @kimhoward4451
      @kimhoward4451 8 місяців тому

      Also, make sure that you don't forget to use a good weight on the end of your braid. A weight helps so much to maintain the right tension in your cord and/or wire. I've noticed with the wire that the weight needs to be much heavier than when I use cord. Of course, that may be just me, but I thought that I would remind you anyway, just in case. Good Luck and Happy Creating! May all of your creations be treasures. 🌺
