I recently started with weaving. English is not so good, but the way you speak and explain makes it very easy to understand everything even without using subtitles. Thanks, all superbly executed.
Thank you so very much for all your wonderful teaching and tips Pru. I started Kumihimo 8 years ago and learned the basics from you. Busy work and life caused me to not do much in the past 5 years however, a terminal diagnosis last year has me delving back into all my crafts again! 😁 A friend from England asked if I could make a necklace with the 3 colours of the British flag and I was stuck as I only know 4-cord braiding. Once again you've come to my rescue and given both of us a lot of joy - thank you so very much! your huge fan, Linda from Vancouver (Chilliwack) BC, Canada
Ok did not get this the first time watching. But thats because I had not watched your 8 cord first. I would highly recommend anyone to watch that one first. I then understood that you are not moving / turning the disk just the cord. Love using less cord. Thanks so very much
Pru - great new braid! It saves cord and gives a nice pattern. I tried to make using a .5mm paracord and it was uneven so I used 1.5 mousetail and it came out just fine. It maybe that it needs a wider cord to work well. Thank you again for a great project.
Omg! Don’t know if it is my senior moment, but I had to do this at least 10x before finishing one! It’s so nice once it’s done. Got confused between the clock wise and counterclockwise landing.😣
Great idea. I will put some thought into it. It takes a while to plan, make samples and film a video, so don’t expect it immediately, but I will get onto it!
I am trying to use 6 cords but 3 colours, (2 of each). But you didn't show us how to load the Kumihimo Disc. The centre of the cords are in the middle of the disc. So, how do the cords overlap each other to begin with?
Hi Pru! I love your work. I am having a weird problem with 6 cord hollow braid. I took a couple pics to share what is happening. I work with Paracord but I hope you might be able to help me understand why I keep having this issue. I don't see a way to attach a photo so if there is another way to share them with you please let me know. Thanks!
I really enjoy your videos and have learned to braid various strands, thanks to your videos. I have a question: When I get near the end of the braid, about 2 (more or less) of the strands are much shorter than the rest of the strands, even though I started with equal lengths. Is this suppose to happen?
This does tend to happen with most types of braid and it does not mean that you have done anything wrong. When there are tiny differences in how firmly you pull on each cord they can add up to quite a big difference by the end of the braid. Getting a good rhythm going and keeping your disk flat are ways to minimise this, but it is not reall something to worry about!
Nice video tute. Like the idea, nice teach. Went to website but could not find directions. Some folks actually benefit from a visual. Hope to see one soon or LMK if I missed it. Thx again.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have added a link to a page showing how to make the 8 cord version and I will soon be photographing the steps for the 6 cord version.
Is it really necessary to continually return the cords at the 4 and 8 o’clock positions to their start positions after each sequence of moves? Surely the 3 clockwise moves can be done in any order, as long as they are completed before the anti clockwise moves. Therefore you could effectively rotate the disk 120º between each sequence and maintain gaps of 0, 2, and 4 slots between the pairs of cords.
I just started to experiment with this, by just moving the furthest strand (the red) strand and moving it to the "far" side of the strands, then taking the strand on the "far side" of the strand I just moved, and I kept moving it to the "far side" of the strands, eventually making it so the far strand was on the opposite side of where the red one started. It was a whole lot easier than what she was trying to describe imo.
Enjoy your videos very informative, I’ve watched many as I’m new to kumihimo braiding. One question , I do the hollow braid with 16 cords and do not have to replace my cords to the starting point. The braid comes out great, but everyone I seen on UA-cam calls for repositioning them to the starting spot. What am I doing wrong??? BTW Thank You for doing your videos!!!
I guess I have to try again. Two cords was thicker than the other 4 & I didn't like how the outcome looked. Will try again with all cords uniformly sized. Also I used bobbins & they kept tangling around the weight.
This is not an easy braid to use with beads on the foam disk. It can be done with continuous strands of beads and this is best done on the traditional braiding stand, the marudai. The best braids for beads are Round Braid/Kongo Gumi or the braid made on the Prumihimo disk.

You're a great teacher. Thank you.
Very easy to listen to and follow your instructions. Thank you 😊
Just loving all your videos, so helpful and easy to understand. I'm quite new to Kumihimo and I'm hooked

I am glad you got it in the end and thank you for your recommendation for others!
I hope you will enjoy this variation on a traditional braid. I have also written a blog all about this type of variation, prumihimo.com/blog/
Do you have a video showing how to finish off the end

That is very interesting. Perhaps it need something slippery, or perhaps a slightly heavier weight.

rose ordosgoitia - it sounds as if you got there in the end. Well done!
Thks for your videos.
Thank you Pru, I love this pattern. I’ve seen it before being used as a tassel cord and wondered how to make it.
I hope it will work well for you.
It is so nice to see another video from you, Pru!
I was wondering if you could show us how you finish off your flat kumihimo braids.
Great idea. I will put some thought into it. It takes a while to plan, make samples and film a video, so don’t expect it immediately, but I will get onto it!
A good easy to follow tutorial
thanks for this one - am going to try it braiding around memory wire as this looks like an easier way to wrap - less frustrating than the eight!
With fewer cords to keep under control I think you might be right! Let me know how you get on.
Love it, very easy to follow.
Glad it was helpful!
I like to learn it. thanks for sharing. may I ask where I can buy round kumihimo disk?
I am trying to use 6 cords but 3 colours, (2 of each). But you didn't show us how to load the Kumihimo Disc. The centre of the cords are in the middle of the disc. So, how do the cords overlap each other to begin with?

Simply wonderful….,Thank you so very much!!!❤
How do you position the wire if you want to braid it with a wire in the middle
If I were to put something in tge. Enter to keep it hollow, does it have to stay inside or can it be removed? And will the braid remain hollow?
Genial ,gracias por compartir saludos desde colombia
Thank you!
What is this braid best for in jewelry?

This is really cool. If I want to make a 15 foot piece of 6 strand braid, how long does each individual stand need to be?
in general, I've heard the rule is to use 3x the length of cord as you desire your braided cord to be, so 45 ft in your case.
Where can I get one of those discs and what are they called?
Great video Pru.
Kate at KC Braids & Beads I am glad you enjoyed it!
Sure to be giving this one a go soon 🙂
Perfect! So helpful! Thank you
I am so glad you like this video.
@@Prumihimo maximum how many cord use
Thank you. Just what I needed!
You're welcome!

Very interesting ?!!!..........that is very pretty, something different, thanks again.
Thanks Lady Di. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for a new cord to try!!
I hope you will find it useful.
Very tricky, should be fun, thanks
Thank you for the tutorial, but did you try this pattern with beads..

You're a genius
How can i braid it around a core? Is it something like the Round Braind around a core?
Real pretty but I would have like it if you had shown the moves a few more times. Thanks.
Thank you for the constructive comment. I will take this into account for future videos.
Hi Pru, can you do this braid with beads?
Thank you, Pru!
I hope you will give it a go!
thank you!
what's the difference between "the very next cord" and "the next cord"?
Nothing ... well spotted!
Verynice
Measurements of cord to be taken has not been shared
5:17 is the start of the sequence
Thank you.
