A bit like Lord Lionel Strong, father of Harwin and Larys. Forged most of a maester's chain, then became lord while being a giant tough fighter too. His stature and slow speech tricked people into thinking he was stupid.

13:40 it does sound like a contradiction. Funny enough, I used to have a wrestling coach that boasted a rock hard ale belly, and would encourage people to punch it. I know that's random af, but figured I would share 😂
Actually, this is a quite common condition and a sign of some serious health issues. Most commonly found in men, a hard so-called beer belly is a sign of fatty organs and typically associated with heavy drinkers. I seem to recall the GOT scene from Season 7 when Sam was helping the Maester with an autopsy there was mention of the extremely enlarged liver that was drinking related.
I can’t help to notice, while admiring Marwyn Strong ibennese features, how much he resembles some members of house Florent, especially ser Axell who is just a younger version of Marwyn (beetled brows and hairy nose and ears included). The best theory ive seen is that hes a Royce or Royce bastard. The only other Marwyn in the story is from The Vale and Marwyn's description (barrel chested, large hands, big eyebrows) fit Bronze Yohn Royce too.

The second paragraph is why I think they're a bad late story inclusion. It becomes a wide ranging hunt for effects and common markers to identify them. Not really, they can and have kicked out maesters for "dangerous" or "forbidden" knowledge. I think they do value him and raised him to archmaester for a reason. Just that he's miffed he's not the most important member of the citadel.
It’s interesting how the characters in ASoIaF who the readers regard as the ‘heroes’ or the ‘good guys’, are the type of people who are labeled as ‘conspiracy theorists’ or ‘extremists’ in real life.
Is it a flaw in Marwyn's logic that he has the opinions he has while simultaneously being an Archmaester, or does the fact that he's an Archmaester lend credence to his views? Perhaps the other Archmaesters are scared of him? Also, if he is spying on them with a glass candle, then that may make his views even more credible. You have great content, keep up the good work!
The flaw in his logic is linking disbelief in what he's saying to his perception of how his fellow maesters feel about him. It's a massive disconnect to go from "We don't think there are dragons back" to "We are actively trying to kill you for thinking that". Especially when we have in universe examples of other maesters being kicked out of the citadel for going after "forbidden" knowledge. The idea that they would not just tolerate him, but raise him as high as he can while trying to kill him is... a bit outside reality. I made this point during the stream, just because he can see more doesn't mean he's seeing it correctly. Like if he sees a dream where another maester fantasizes about pushing Marwyn out of a window, is that proof they all want him dead? No, but if you're Marwyn and you see daggers in the dark everywhere then maybe you will see that as proof. But TBH I think he is exaggerating for the sake of Sam. He's trying to make sure none of the other maesters hear what Sam has to say while Marwyn runs off to find Dany, giving himself a head start. That was the purpose of sending Sarella down to intercept Sam before he could make it to the seneschal.

I'm sure someone has already noted this but all the Targaryen prophecies are dreams so could they have been planted by glass candles? I get why you don't like them as a plot device.
Ok, so this confuses me. "Marwin is a conspiracy theorist." Then in the next breath, "so Marwin used a magic candle to watch Sam." I get that you're probably talking about the Maesters conspiracy. But it's hard to belive he's not got a point when he's so well traveled and so actively using magic despite the other maesters denying it's existance.
The internet is a prime example I believe I used in this stream. The ability to have access to more knowledge does not stop conspiratorial thinking, of which Marwyn displays all the signs of. If that were true, the rise of mass media would've eradicated that kind of thinking. That he was watching Sam doesn't mean he's correct about everything else he says to Sam.

How can conspiracy theorists belive that everyone else are blind followers who don't think critically. But that also everone who disagrees with them are responsible for whatever mystery they are obsessed with?
It's a form of double think, or self delusion. People who believe those who disagree with them are simultaneously massive idiots but also parts of a vast conspiracy out to get them. It is illogical, that doesn't mean people don't genuinely believe it.
your Varys timeline doesn't fit V. came in Aerys II last 4 years plus 16 years Robert.....all his life with Illyrio in Essos that doesn't fit for me.
