I love it too. I trying to predict what my two does kids will look like. The owner I got them from said they always throw red color like themselves. The buck they were bred to is buck skin
I'm so excited for the babies! I love Color Predictions! It's fun to speculate and get surprised or not on what they end up looking like! they will all be beautiful non the less!
These videos really are the highlight of my day. An I love that your kidding season lines up with our spring pretty well, we'll have snow on the ground for next 2 an half months, so I enjoy the warmth in your videos. Not to mention, I'm a big fan of genetics an love your videos talking about them!
Just hoping for lots of healthy kids! Would love to get some surprise colors to see what Pokey is bringing forth, but even all golds will be adorable. :D
Started watching you guys many years ago and always loved to see the cooking segments within the videos. I think I been here before the birth of Willow and the construction of the pond. Haven’t watched you guys in forever so I had to tap back in when I saw the video in my notifications feed
This is SUCH a great video!! Love the color predictions and the udder updates! So excited for this coming kidding season!! And I've found myself going into your goat website (course) and reading through it for fun... It's an amazing website❤
I just want to thank you guys for making these videos. I had just started building my hobby herd and was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. I was then diagnosed with Alpha-gal (mammal allergy). So my dreams of having a small goat dairy were shattered. I had to sell all my does and now just have four wethers. They are good boys and seem to understand that I cant move too well some days. 😊 Your videos let me live vicariously through you and its much appreciated. ❤
I admit I also love the kidding season and seeing those babies hopping around outside. It will be interesting to see how the adult goats will handle being with the babies in the open grazing area. Any plans on a specific way you want to handle choosing names for these babies?
Super fun!!! I love learning about the colour genetics! I assume the same rules would apply to Nubians. I used a Black and White buck, but my does range in colour from tri(black, tan, and white), to cherry red with frosted ears, to gold, to brown with black points. I'll have to do some research....cause it's fun. 😅😍
Do it! I am going to get it blended with some highlights so it's not a drastic line as it grows out, but I'm excited to see it fully grown in a couple years:)
I have a question about the genetics with Duchess’s future kids: Is gold dominant over Chamoise or the other way around? The way you capitalised chamoise I assumed it was dominant over gold, but with what you described and the chart it looked like gold is dominant over chamoise. But If gold was dominant over chamoise and duchess had a chamoise/gold genotype, wouldn’t she have a gold phenotype if gold was dominant over chamoise? I’m probably overlooking something, but genetics are so interesting and I’m really curious! Anyways, I hope kidding season goes well for you and all the mamas and baby’s are healthy and happy!
Oh you made such a good point! Yes Duchess wouldn’t be carrying gold, she’d have to carry black bc gold is dominant and if present it always displays phenotypically.
Gold is Dominant is all color gene. So gold combine with another color pattern for example buckskin would be a Gold carrying buckskin. Not the other way around since Gold can’t be recessive.
I'm going to laugh so hard if you end up with like 5-7 nearly identical gold kids to start the year xD especially since both of the dams are low white patches.. i don't know if the white works the same way as it does with cats but if so, it means there'll be little to no distinguishing white patches either. So much for a flashy whether, to start at least!
I do this and it makes all the difference come actual milking time! I learned the first year I grew up a Doeling and didn’t do it. Holy cow it was so difficult to get her to let me milk her.
OK, wait, I've done about 1000 Punnett squares in my time & my question is: Are chamoise & buckskin the result of mixed dominance or are they independent color genes? If the latter, what is their order in the dominance? It is such fun doing all the training & figuring & ultrasounds & EVERYTHING leading up to kidding!!! Love it!!
According to a color genetics book I've been reading, it says "Like buckskin, chamoise is a dominant pattern, and gold or silver will overwrite the pattern. When accompanied by other patterns, chamoise will present incompletely" - Payne, Rachel. Nigerian Dwarf Colors: Colors, Patterns, & the Genetics Behind Them (p. 34). Kindle Edition.
I'd have to go look him up, but is it possible that he's a Buckskin and Chamoise combo? Because very often that combo is mistaken for the bezoar pattern.
I did a deep dive into his pedigree and I didn’t really find any Bezoar color. Also looking at his litter there did come a lot of Buckskin and Chamoise Combo pattern which he did have when bred with a doe that carry that color.
@WickedAwesomeGardening no it is possible. It could also be coming from some of the does on that side. My bucks sire is gold and carrying black so he can't be a combo. His sisters were gold. We will be doing his DNA as well so we will get sire confirmation since his sire gets collected and is sold all over the place. He is registered as chamoisee but he is not he has the boots of a buckskin which bezoar also has. I initially thought he was a combo until I looked up Goldie cox's parents and saw one was gold and one was balck
If Duchess had the Gold gene isn’t gold dominant to Chamoisee? So she would appear Gold if she had it? I think that’s my personal understanding of gold being dominant to the other colors. If so she’d have to be carrying black.
River is gonna be tricky, considering we don’t know who the father is. It could be Lancelot, or it cloud be Pokey. If it’s Lancelot, we have River who, if I remember correctly, is buckskin with moonspots, and she carries black right? Lancelot carries gold and black, so we might get a buckskin, we might get a black, or we might get a gold, and we have a chance of moonspots. If it’s Pokey, we might get a buckskin, or a gold, (don’t know what Pokey’s second is) but we also might get moonspots. So I guess that either way you may not be able to tell if you get all golds with River, because both Lancelot and Pokey can pass can have gold kids, so you will have to DNA test them for sure. Anyway, I know all the kids will be adorable, I’m kinda hoping at least one kid has moonspots. Have a nice day/night to anyone who took the time to read this!
It is very interesting to see what would come out from this pairing. But after some research I did find some mistake/inaccuracy and a few other color possibilities. Firstly, Gold can’t be a recessive gene and you need to have one parent that is physically gold in order to have gold kids. The only exception is “Recessive red” which comes from two non-gold parents that end up having a gold looking kid, this is more complex since its another set of agouti locus pattern. Duchess dam Wynonna was a Chamoise/black and her sire Lancelot was a Gold/black. Duchess turns out to be Chamoise but since we know that the gold gene can’t be recessive then it only leaves one other color left which is black. In addition, Pokey sire (Rumor) is a Gold carrying black since I check his litter and one of his kid this year Wolfivan Burdock root is a Black goat. Burdock came from Ginger root and Rumor. ❤
Also I have some suspicion that Pokey Dam sire (Countn on Quinn) might be a Gold carrying buckskin since He was bred to Woodbridge Unpresident who is Black. Agape’s prize Hard press that came out of that pairing was a Gold… red gold I believe? Also one of his other kid within this combo was a buckskin.
And the trickier thing about all of this is often times gold goats can be actually red recessive, which is why sometimes you'll get colors out of them you didn't expect!
I thought gold was dominant over all colors and patterns, it can't be carried and not expressed? The way I learned it is if they have gold they are going to be gold. I'm putting my money on Duchess being Chamoise from her dam and that Lancelot gave up Black. If he gave Gold then she would express Gold and carry Chamoise.
@Weedemandreap Can't be right all the time! 😂 I just had this discussion with the previous owner of my gold doe who told me she's gold carrying black and chamoise and I'm like... how can she carry 3 colors, that's not possible? 😂 So I did a deep dive!
She's in the same boat as Pokey with two gold parents though. She's either homozygous gold or she's carrying black from one of her grandparents. Your color prediction videos are SO FUN! I caught the bug from you guys big time and love to guess what my goats are going to have!
This is a weird question have you ever got a goat with female and male parts idk if that happens with goats I know it can happen with dogs Wednesday is due on my birthday
Yes. "Faye" out of Olive & Napoleon In 2022. If you want to know more abt her, search their Home page for "inters*x" [but use an "e" instead of "*"]. There's two videos. I like goats from watching Kevin and DaNelle, though I think I've been misspelling her name for some years now . . .
I love your channel, and your hair 😍 I'm considering it too since I'm approaching 40 soon 🎉

First here lol my mom's a huge fan you probably know her name need a miracle farm
But will they be horned or polled?❤❤❤🇸🇪
We don’t have any polled goats anymore so they’ll all be horned! ❤️
How do u put up the color prediction 🤔
First!!!❤
Very interesting.

Which goat out of all the pregnant ones is more likely to produce a flashy kid for the wether?
Maybe River! She's got a lot of spots!
the way I thought one of them gave birth already before I read the description
The photo of Wednesday in the colour possibilities is unfortunate 😂
Countin on quinn could also be bezoar. He is in one of my bucks as well and my buck captain must be bezoar

Question - if duchess got gold from Lancelot wouldn't she be gold?
Yes, I'm totally wrong about that 🤦🏻♀️ -- one of these years I'll get it correct 😅
If Duchess had the Gold gene isn’t gold dominant to Chamoisee? So she would appear Gold if she had it? I think that’s my personal understanding of gold being dominant to the other colors. If so she’d have to be carrying black.
That’s correct.
You are so pretty and Kevin is such a sweet cute husband.
I heard tiktoks going away on the 19th. MIGHT be back.
😊😊
Being a goat breeder myself
Danelles gonna bleach all the kids white this year so no one can pick favourites 😂
Blue eyes will always be my favorite sorry not sorry 😅

Does Pokies' DNA test show what his color genetics are?
Color can only be reveal trough breeding. It can’t be DNA.
Duchess is carrying black because gold cant be carried

Third under 1 minutes

Oh gosh i hope we don’t get a whole herd of gold kids 😂😂😂😂😂now I see why the push on the AI was crucial to mix up those genetics
It will definitely be confusing! I should get colored collars just in case!
@@WeedemandreapThat’s a great idea we are gonna need some unique names for sure 😂
Gold are very very dominant so it won’t be long until their whole herd turn in to Gold. Just like Wolfivan ranch 😂
