P.S. Technically, there are 7 sub-zones of Chianti DOCG because Chianti Classico DOCG is it's very own DOCG. Let's thank Christine Marsiglio MW for that pro-nerd fact! 👏
P.P.S. It's "Chianti Rufina" not "Ruffina" FYI. We caught the map spelling error a bit too late. 😬 Please forgive my heavy keystroke on "FFFFfffff."

Don't forget, fava beans go well with Chianti also! 😱🤣
And your neighbours liver.
You’re videos, books, clubs, et al and definitely elevating the wine experience for thousands of new people who have not been able to get into the traditional information heretofore available. You make it fun, exciting, appealing and entertaining in addition to being educational! Congratulations on your success!! I am an old guy with multiple decades of experience with wines and I encourage all the younger folks who want to learn how to really enjoy and learn about wines to check out your videos and website. It’s amazing how many restaurant and bar employees barely know anything about what beverages they are serving! But, it’s also amazing how many of them want to know more! WF is the best source available today imho.
My favorite wine❤
My Wine has improved so much that my colleagues are pushing me to go be a Sommelier. All thanks to you

Chianti in Italy I just learned is the oldest designated wine region of Europe
there are a few regions that can claim this designation! Chianti was named as a general region in the 1300s but wasn't technically designated as a wine region until the 1960s I believe with the creation of the DOC/DOCG system.
The first wine regions came much later in the 1700s due to copy-cat wines filling the marketplace and countries wanting to protect their designation of origin. Around this time we see Tokaji in Hungary demarcated and the Douro Valley for Port in Portugal.
The Chianti region was designated in the 1300s. @@Winefolly
Very Nice
I would like to have Wine Folly Club in Europe!
Regards from 🇧🇷
Isole e Olena!
We have a few good Chianti's in Texas. When are you going to do a show on our wonderful wine region? Come on Madeline you'd love it, well maybe not the humidity. But I think you'd love it 🙂.
Do you mean Sangiovese-based wines? I imagine it would do splendidly in the climate there. Which producers?
@@Winefolly yes a lot of winemakers make sangiovese. To many winemakers to name really. Texas wineries are making a huge splash. There are hundreds now. I was really hoping to get you to do a video on Texas wines. As far as sangiovese I like skies over Texas winery, and Bull Lion makes a texianti. Really there are a lot of amazing winemakers here. Come visit.
@@Winefolly if you come visit you might want to stay a while lol I hope you make it.
2016 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino might be the greatest wine I ever had.
Lovely, concise video. A few questions:
1. Is sangiovese the only permitted grape? I'm fairly sure I've seen others...
2. Which recent vintages are best for drinking now? I'm not patient enough to wait years.
No, within the region of Chinati there are several appellations with own rules.
You can look up the details in Wikipedia for example. Chianti Classico for instance have a minimum of 80% of Sangiovese which is the main grape variety in Chianti.
Sangiovese is the major grape with ~75% minimum. But there are several other (rare) regional grapes like canaiolo, colorino - also cab sauv and merlot.
Check a vintage chart like I recommend. There are several GREAT recent vintages to swoop up!
@@Winefolly where is the vintage chart available?
Black rooster beats Super Tuscans
amazing
Yay! Go Chianti!
I want to join the club but I am waiting to see videos on the tastings and what bottles you are sending out first

Thanks again for your appreciation
Are these wines vegan? I noticed you mentioned salami as part of the flavors. Can you post a video of best tasting vegan wine?
Salami is an aromatic quality and has nothings to do with fining agents as they precipitate out of the wine.
Pairs well with liver and fava beans! ... or so a certain psychiatrist told me
Hahahaha 😂 oh Hannibal…
Thank you for the break down on Chianti. Your new hair color is fabulous, please dress more modestly, so we can focus on the Wine information.
Lemme go find my moomoo!
Is the wine club only for americans?
Yes! Currently we haven't yet figured out the complex logistics of EU shipping. Looking into a no-wine version of the club for the learnings. Stay tuned!
