    This is the 3rd video in a row with Bertrand in it that I've watched. He seems to have 3 problems. 1) He's far too cocky for his skill set. He's clearly not as good as he thinks he is. 2) He doesn't have the will to win. He takes too long to rest and doesn't push himself. 3) His triceps are clearly not very strong. He has failed during the dips part in all 3 videos I watched.

    Joe Lewis squat half reps come on you can't count Them all, bertrand is going much lower, what requires much more strength

    • @muhammadshariq8474
      @muhammadshariq8474 8 років тому +27

      +Bose Ranger Exactly my thought. Many of Joe's squats were "no reps". He would've lost if he did justice to every rep of every exercise like Bertrand. Surprised that FULL ROM wasn't as strictly emphasised in this match...

    • @Toxondomo
      @Toxondomo 8 років тому +103

      the rule was to hit parallel, and every rep was atleast parallel, so don't call him out on that

    • @Edwardthebest417
      @Edwardthebest417 8 років тому +22

      It was good form. You don't need to go down all the way; your thighs just have to be parallel to the floor.

    • @kblkbl
      @kblkbl 8 років тому +27

      +Bose Ranger Unless you're doing something close to your 1RM it is much more comfortable to divebomb the squat than holding it at parallel. You can see Bertrand is divebombing basically every rep as a mean to save energy while Joe is controlling every rep to go just parallel.
      In the end I think he did it this way more out of habit.

    Bertrand was doing deeper squats and I can see great progress on his bench and squat. Anyways, the Men's Physique athlete was a bit quicker, as well as he needed shorter recovering periods. Really motivational fight! Hope to see more soon.

  • @close6813
    @close6813 8 років тому +871

    every exercise here plays into the men's physique athlete
    There must be more variation in the exercises, not simply lifting weights. Why there aren't any courses that would test how dynamic and fast are the athletes with their bodies?
    Think for example of comparing gymnasts, who train their bodies to achieve finesse in certain skills, against powerlifter in a match where the gymnast should squat as much as he can and the powerlifter should try to tumble around and do stuff standing on his arms upside down as a gymnast.
    Edit: To all point people saying it's strength: strength has flexible meaning so doesn't constrict itself only to how big the numbers are or how big the rock is you are picking.
    If you are dismissing involvement of skill, saying that gymnastic is just skill, then why you bitch about the way someone does a squat, a pull up, a dip? Why not then measure arm length since that matters a lot how much you will be able to do dips or how much you will bench press. Same for height and the amount one deadlifts the weight from the ground.
    It all matters, that's why there are so many sports with emphasis on isolated skills.
    You might as well say this is cardio wars as well, because everyone is strong doing his first set, but then some gas very fast and can't continue and others keep on going.

    • @STRENGTHWARS
      @STRENGTHWARS  8 років тому +14

      +Dave Artist joe's squats are exactly parallel and he invested lots of training into meeting that exact requirement, though bertrands squats are deeper, yes, but without any need

    • @guruhonza
      @guruhonza 8 років тому +1

      +Kumpel Blase You should try it sometimes. 20+ or even 50+ rep squats... with and without belt. Belt makes it harder for high rep sets because you cant breathe with him as good as you can without it

    • @tr.o.ubadour6559
      @tr.o.ubadour6559 8 років тому

      BodybuildingRev Then it was probably just the camera angle. It's interesting, because if Bertrand would have squattet only parallel, he might have finished them faster, which would've given him more time for the dips, where he seemed exhausted because of the benchpress. That probably would've made the fight even closer. It's also about tactics, it seems.

    A few problems with this:
    -- The whole design of the challenge is based on bodybuilding exercises, not calisthenics or a balance of both, so of course you'd expect the bodybuilder to have an inherent advantage.
    -- The challenges are based around pushing movements, with no pulling movements. Again, this greatly favors weightlifters rather than people who primarily train calisthenics.
    -- Lewis wasn't going parallel on his squats. Bertrand was going much deeper. The rules should make sure that they're each doing the same.

    • @Abisso666
      @Abisso666 8 років тому

      +Overhead4477 I agree with all your points. It still pisses me off how every single time one of the athletes doesn't perform the exercises properly. But the same points have been brought up in almost every video of this channel, so I guess it's time to desist. After all, this is NOT an official competition, it's just entertainment in a nice format so they're entitled to do as they want.
      And it's still kind of entertaining, so... let's accept it as it is, I say.

      +Tittenmann Some of them...

    • @muhammadshariq8474
      @muhammadshariq8474 8 років тому

      +Tittenmann It was clear that he didn't hit parallel multiple times, even with the belt on and Bertrand had no belt. He cheated some reps on the bench as well. It was obvious throughtout the exercises that the guideline for full ROM is not being emphasised as strictly as would be in say, a Romano vs Adam match. I feel the outcome would've been different if the "winner" did justice to every rep of every exercise like Bertrand. Respect for both though.

    • @muhammadshariq8474
      @muhammadshariq8474 8 років тому +1

      I'm not saying Bertrand is as strong as he should be. But the way Joe performed at MANY reps of the squats, some reps in the bench and even some in dips from a ROM perspective, it could've changed the game completely if he did full justice to the reps like Bertrand. That could've easily made up for the 8 reps of dips for Bertrand.

      It's a Men's Physique thing, they unlock their full potential when they take off their shirt and putting on the spirit cap increases the flow of their chi by 33%, so they're able to push harder and recover faster.

    Maybe give Bertrand another calisthenics guys to compete against. Its already been established calisthenics guys can't lift weights for shit but why is that surprising since they... don't lift weights.

    • @tngchinghwa
      @tngchinghwa 8 років тому +9

      +bryce Flanigan true, these strength competition is pretty unfair to calisthenics guys, there should be more dynamic comparisons, maybe like take away the bench press for like 60 reps of chin up or something, a more level playing field
