    People who like this video probably read the title and listened to what he said ... both pretty big hints that this is about portraits. Google his work ... he isn't crapppp ... he's simply fantastic at what he does. Probably why Hollywood hired him instead of us...

    The photos aren't amazing, but I like that this guy has gone out there (which takes some guts) and has had fun with it. He is obviously passionate and that is commendable.

    Fortunately for Clay, the people he works for,and those he photographs; he doesn't get caught up in pedantic nonsense many people here see lost in. Perhaps why he's successful at what he does..why clients like to work with him. I've not met Clay in person but our work crosses over in the same industry. I totally get what he's on to. Clay is passionate about photography and generous in sharing this passion and understanding...there are no secrets nor shoulds in photography.

    Thank you very much for your video. This is an excelLent "how to" video. I see some questions about the process. If you photograph to be famous, glamerous, ...... whatever, you are not a photographer! This guy is gritty and talented at what he is doing. Don't think so, then go out and try it. What will he do with his images? Go to his site and look! His access to the people on his site shows that he is probably making a living doing what is his passion. Quite an admirable position and I, for one, am envious.
    Fantastic work guy! Thanks!

    You dont have to be in open shade. If you know your exposure and use any modern dslr, it can handle the highlights if you expose correctly. I you shoot negative film the highlights will never be a problem at all.

  • @ressikanflute

    Probably to prevent unwanted shadows because of the lack of space between subject and backdrop is the reason I see no flash or catchlights in the eyes reflections in glass? I think it would be a great, quick way to get interesting images for ones portfolio/website. I wonder how to handle model release? I've been wanting to try this with my RB67 maybe using instant film and/or B+W

  • @SirGooga
    @SirGooga 13 років тому

    @HogbergPhotography Different strokes for different folks. For what he does, and the aesthetic he's going for, he likes nice flat light. Although nice direct light, modified just right, can be more interesting when handled correctly, it's always easier to add contrast than remove it in the 'darkroom'.

    I dont think its "Just" anything...its someone doing what they feel inside...enjoying it...and doing it well...who defines what "Street Photography" is...why waste time defining something...something done from the heart speaks for itself...it doesn't need to be defined or fit into a category.

    There isnt that much post done on them, the main changes i can see straight away is a boost to contrast and obviously it being black and white. This is a nice effect for every now and then, but if you shoot don't forget that flattering coloured photos witha normal street backdrop nicely out fo focus can be just as powerful and even more intimate witht he subject. Also, it's nice to give the people you shoot your card incase they want copies of your shots ;)

      They are good for expanding your horizons. They are good for the people like it and it makes them feel noticed. It is good for learning to shoot on the fly. It is good for the fact that if you are out and about and need some practice you do not have to deal with canceled appointments. Me personally, I talk to them, take their name and let them tell me their story. Then I post it on my fb page. People enjoy reading it. For some, they take a second look at what they initially thought about the person. I for one have no experience in portraits. It is free schooling. Is that a good enough list? :)
