🐞I loved this, thank you! I have learned so much as your interests and studies evolve because you take us down paths and hidden places I never would have known to look given my limited exposure and knowledge. If you have the time I would love a second, continuation video on the other books you bought and hopefully a follow up on your favorites. I don’t think I’m alone here in saying your book videos could never be boring; they are complete treasures!
Is it weird that I want to see a video of you showing all your cool stuff in your house?? I love a cozy and aesthetically pleasing house. Can we have a tour??
You are living my dream, lady! Going to London on a book buying expedition sounds like Arcadia haha. Would love to see everything you got, so if you feel so inclined please DO "bore" us with it lol! 💜
what you showed are the kind of things I'd buy on a UK book buying trip, so I would be interested in the rest. Also, do a bibliography of good magical memoirs/biographies/etc. Those are my favorites as well. Top of the list for many years has been My Life with the Spirits by DuQuette.
I just came back from London and got to go to Watkins and Treadwells. Didn't get a chance to go into Atlantis this time but did duck into the Astrology shop. I could have spent hours if only I had more money. :( I still ended up spending a significant amount and then having to lug it all home in only my carry on and leaving some clothes behind. I got the British Library Publishing House's Celtic Weird, and Fearsome Fairies, along with Magical History of Britain by Martin Wall, Pagans, The Visual Culture of Pagan Myths and Legends and Rituals by Ethan Doyle White, and the Watkin's book of English Folklore with an introduction by Neil Gaiman. I'm very excited to read them. London is fantastic for bookshops.
I had no idea that Ronald Hutton had a new book out! 🎉🎉🎉 so thank you so much for this Thorn, and I would happily have sat for several hours looking at all your new books! Never boring! 💕💕💕
Finding Maxine Sanders’ “Witch Queen” is amazing! It’s certainly on my list. I finally found a reasonable copy of Patricia Crowther’s “Witch Blood” in Salem! That’s been on my list for a bit.
This video made me so happy and giddy to go on another book haul. Thank you so much, as always, for your insight. I really enjoy your videos (and books!!).
Thorn you are amazing and such an inspiration! I've read your latest book and it is phenomenal! It helped me tremendously very recently when I was experiencing severe burnout. Thank you ❤
That's such an cool way of approaching esoteric books! I may need to adopt it--so many of how to books are just not....relevant to me, I guess? Not really of interest anyway. Usually I look for the books that are more about the histories and general practices of different traditions, but adding books that are just more autobiographical accounts of an individual's spiritual life would be super valuable!
After reading Ronald Hutton's book, I've come to several realizations. First, I trust in his scholarship. Secondly, Anthropology is one of my majors, so, my opinions may be dated (I'm 65). I have learned to look at religion as not an expression of "truth". Religion has a function in society. As society changes, so must religion to remain relevant. Given our current problems globally, nationally, and locally, an animistic, pantheonistic, and "engineered" religion seen most desirable. As a teacher, we were taught children invent their own realities. Hindu sacred text muse how the gods may have created us, or we may have created the God's. Considering scientific ideas about the nature of matter and energy, I see how we may actually create our realities. This informed my acceptance of Witchcraft. Manifestation of will, energy manipulation, and learning to appreciate nature at a deep level, are relevant ideas for our age. As I read this book, I questioned whether or not the actual historical facts mattered in deity veneration. Or, does the functional "truth" of archetypes matter more? I feel truth. It may not be based on facts. (Weird) However, when I look at our devisive society, and see how our political factions cannot agree on events we all witnessed, I started to question what truth really is. Dismayed though I may be, this has allowed me to reframe some of my past ideas. Religion, is one idea I've looked at. In my mind religion: gives a feeling of transcendence, makes sense of the past, present, and direction for the future. It inspires people to be their "higher " self. It gives people a purpose, a goal, a plan. PS. Just sharing your interests in books, exposes us to books we wouldn't know about. Thank you Thorn. I am going to rewatch this video to choose another selection. By the way, I love looking at Wicca as a religion, I probably going to look at a tradition that honors an individual practice.
Thorn! I love that I’m catching you live! Like you, I have a huge collection of books, on many topics. When I go to the UK, I always come back with one more suitcase than I left with - and it’s usually at least half-filled with books I’ve acquired, there. On an unrelated note, but still about books, I’ve been dying to ask you if you’ve ever considered, or been asked to, read your own books for Audible. I absolutely LOVE both books. But the Audible narrators are really difficult to take.
Occult book haul...yes please! I would be interested in any, absolutely any, book you bought. It looks like my book budget is about to be blown again, but it was my birthday last week so what can you do?
Thorn. I am traditional uk witch saucerer wizard. Call it what you wiil as you were in the uk. Did you go the the museum of witchcraft and wizardry in cornwall. They may have been helpfull to you. Each coven i have been to do things differetly, i have been to a few. I will recomend one book for you, that is the discoverie oc witchcraft by reginald scott 1545 circa. They are many types of tbis one by forbidden books, one by dover books but this is done by montague sommers in the 1930s and left out what real witchcraft was. He left out 9 chapers. Its basically about the witchtrials of the late elizabethan perioud. However it is written i n old english of that perioud. Even the dover press one is okay just get the other ones aswell as they have the forbidden chapters and pages, on how the craft was practiced and what the did in thoes times, no it not wicca.
Dammit thorn, you have just given me a whole other point of consideration that I hadn't even realised needed to be considered. Could you maybe not be quite so quietly influential for a little while. I have other demands on my time (professional exams). Also, I am going to need a new bookshelf. Thanks for all the research wormhole breadcrumbs, they are always interesting and instructional to follow. Hope you had a good trip and all the books are what you wish from them.
I’d love to see a book tour of your “anti-library” - the books that are on your shelves that you haven’t read. 💖
That’s a good one. I know I’ve got some.
That’s a great idea! Okay! 💙
Memoirs of people’s spiritual journey’s are some of my favorite things to read

I love these old biographies/memoirs! They’re amazing. I was really excited.
This video made me so happy and giddy to go on another book haul. Thank you so much, as always, for your insight. I really enjoy your videos (and books!!).
You’re welcome! I enjoy sharing, so it’s good to know others get excited too!
I've been meaning to get "Moongazers & Trailblazers." This gives extra motivation! :)
More books...I’ll let you know when I get bored. This was fascinating. 😊
Book shopping in London is the best!!!
Hey! Thanks for sharing your book haul! And thanks for the book shipping tip! Big Hugs! :)
Thorn you are amazing and such an inspiration! I've read your latest book and it is phenomenal! It helped me tremendously very recently when I was experiencing severe burnout. Thank you ❤
The Light from the Shadows book was Michael Howard I believe, under the name Gwyn - which will probably give you an idea of the vein it is in.
I didn’t know that! Thank you!
I'd like to see the rest. I'm also interested in personal accounts of one's craft.
Love it. Thanks!! Would you be willing to share some of your other hauled books in a Patreon video?

I have learned so much from your, books and your channel. Thank you so much for your contribution. 🧙
I had to get Ronald Hutton's new book after listening to you. Got it on Kindle! Love hearing about your haul.

I read Maxine's autobiography, Firechild. Not gonna lie, it was a bit mental in parts! lol But she's a fascinating woman.
That book is *wild*
