The creators got a little too heavy with the usage of the stones but a good story requires the establishment of your characters and there SGU shined. All of the characters were well thought out. Season 1 you had people who had a lot of disagreements and who largely disliked each other. They were forced to work together to live. In season 2, they became a family. The writing of SGU was superb and I do not think I will ever see characterization on such a level again.
I believe that was the plan all along, conflict that turned into unity, but the conflicts lasted far too long that it was an automatic turn off for most of the audience, which caused them to Beyond easy and less willing to come back to the second season, some people didn't even come back oh, and I don't necessarily blame them because that drama lasted for far too long. Outside of the drama and the conflict, I actually enjoyed the show when it came down to uncovering the mysteries of the universe and the Mystery aliens who are always chasing the destiny across the Stars, I enjoyed learning about the mystery of the destiny and its mission. I think the stones for communication purposes was used a little too much in some circumstances, but they weren't used in a very unique way, I remember an episode where they decided to get a doctor from Earth it was very smart on her own merits to use the stones to help someone onboard destiny, and that was a great episode however the weird thing is Earth had other technologies that they could have used for all kinds of things and they could have experimented a little bit more with the communication Stones when it came down to transferring a conscious mind through the Stars, was a very good concept however it would have been cool if they use them with other Technologies such as piece of technology that they got off of the planet back in the Milky Way they have the capability to essentially download information into someone's mind oh, imagine using that technology along with the stones to transfer knowledge, it's all theoretical if that would even be possible but, who knows it could be something that might work, another technology they could have used especially towards the end of the series As It seems that the series was pretty much ending anyway, they could have used the Asgard core to transfer information via communication Stone via conscious mind download into the Asgard core cloned some kind of body for them and essentially save them, it's not like that Destiny ship had much of a leg left to stand on. But the thing is it didn't really do a whole lot of experimenting in that show especially with the known Technologies they had on hand, they pretended like everything was had to be done by scratch when they had other Provisions in dealing with these things.
Powered by the stars themselves! it should have been enough, seems we will never get the ending we, the ship, the crew deserve! still thanks Ales for the upload
Actually, season 2 was great. Because... it brought all the Stargate shows together. With that one clue... of a pattern in the chaos that only the Ancients were clever or advanced enough to discover. Personally, if they ever bring it back... I hope they go the route of introducing... a loop there. As in... the pattern in the chaos being a remnant of Tau'ri (human) or Ancient design. Kind of like a predestination thing. Either humanity or the ancients caused the very universe that gave birth to us to come into existence.
To answer this question 10 years later from your comment, a lot of people didn't necessarily like the conflict and drama that lasted far too long within that first season, which turned them off to the point where they didn't want to continue because they thought it would be more of the same. However some people did come back and these people enjoyed the show, but some people still didn't like it. There was a little bit of the woke crap in the show as well which turned off more people.
@@basedgaming I still enjoy it as well, sorry for my typos earlier I was using my other phone which isn't exactly good at text to speech lol, it's fixed now after the fact. But yeah I enjoyed the show, I didn't necessarily like how long the conflict lasted myself, but I really loved when they started to unite with each other for the greater good of the crew, I love the mystery going on behind the scenes of the aliens that were chasing them and in one case abducting them, I also loved learning about the history of the ship seeing the inside of the ship and having them fix it to unlock these new areas and unlock other mysteries within, I liked the journey when it came to destiny's mission and all the information following that, I especially like that mystery being that was capable of creating an entire solar system that half of the crew went to live on that planet only for them to die and become somewhat of a revelation to Tamara Johnson and the mini story involving her child and the vision that she received and the confirmation that she needed to know that her vision was not just a dream, and the people that died on that planet or resurrected for a short period of time just before dying again when they showed up in space within the other shuttle as they talked about their mystery saviors. The show didn't say this, but it is my assumption that this being was some kind of ascended being, and this being wasn't exactly good at creating solar systems, but it was experimenting as it could sense this presence on board the destiny and it could sense that they needed a planet so that it tried to help them, I believe this being that's created this solar system and the planet in that location was trying to cater to their needs trying to be their savior, but unfortunately it couldn't sustain them for very long. Anyway that's my theory, but I also believe that this being was responsible or possibly other beings such as this one was responsible for the background microwave radiation message that was directly related to what the destiny was meant to uncover. It's just a theory I have, but there's not a whole lot to go off of.
Yum... sgu... those were the days! I miss that show. They should do a big screen movie with sgu theme in mind. For the fans... Anyway, I am missing the show, the actors, the music, the sfx... everything. Too bad it was cancelled. It should have another 2 or 3 seasons. :(
@TatsuZZmage The warble is likely the result of things like dialogue and sound effects being removed by software. The information isn't available in the audio stream for a perfect reconstruction, but the software does what it can. A warble is usually hard to avoid though.
@MrEvil37 Exactly. I see so many people writing that SGU was so boring in the beginning... these two episodes were the best of SGU maybe, but definately among the top 5. Makes me wonder... are there Blurays of those already? Gotta look that up.
@Mardi87 The ship can't actually think, so it couldn't realise that the shuttle wanted to come back. Like other machinery, it can only detect things like 'the CO2 scrubbers need to be refilled', so it drops out at a planet that the seed ship have said contains the materials to clean the scrubbers.
Actually it's torrent users who are really to blame. The reason SyFy cancelled the show was because viewership was low, yet this show was the second most popular TV Show torrent at the time (Lost was the most popular at the time, but it also had the viewership and funding to finish it out). Yes, SyFy is partly to blame with some iffy plot points, but they do what they can with what they have...
Try to watch cable american channel in Europe. That's why we now have Netflix like stuff. Problem with SGU was, that there was more non-american viewers than american and how stupid it was for SyFy to base their judgement solely on shitty TV ratings.
well, I am actually a Nielsen family and every so often, I have to press a button on a remote and "sign in" whoever is watching. so they do have some idea of the viewership of shows, DVR, Netflix, etc. It's not 100% accurate, but it's not as if they don't care about viewership... and I certainly own it on bluray ;-)
That's quite a piece of music. The moment at 2:45 when you get the feeling that something incredible is starting to happen... and it really is a mind-blowing idea.
They are TV networks--they don't get paid for internet viewership unless it's from their own website. SyFy cannot cater their television programming to viewers who don't watch their advertising, *and* stay in business. I'm not saying they aren't to blame--I'm just saying there were other factors that were completely out of their control--namely, SG fans who didn't bother watching the show on TV or on Syfy.com.
@DarkWaterDigital yes so it scans and doesnt "think". it scans the co2 filters, it scans the close solar systems for suitable stars to recharge but no fof system for its own shuttle so it can dock? ^^
Good track, well put together :) it's a shame the show got cancelled! I really liked where it was heading - great characters, wonderful stories and bloody good acting. Oh why oh why did they close it down. The person responsible should be shot! Lol.
@TheSponkomat Season one is already out on Blu-ray (I have it, and it looks incredible), but unfortunately it looks like season two will not be released on BR anytime soon :( And Darkness/Light are JUST below my top five episodes of the whole of SGU.
@MrPaulcm1 Thank God someone other than me realizes that. If you're looking for someone to blame, then SyFy is your target. If not for their selfishness and money-hungry attitudes, you'd be no in a mid-season break of the best of the seasons of SG:U. Not sure if it's public, but you may attempt to search for season 3 scripts on the web. They had a few eps released some time ago.
Actually that's a misconception. The money made through advertising is purely speculation, there is no way to actually know of someone is watching. The real money is made in the dvd/bluray releases and related products. If you truly care about stargate universe, like I do, then buy it on bluray, like I have.
Great show! Give up the petition. Actors and crew moved on. Fans should too. Soon a good character driven scfi drama will come. Check out "The Expanse", While you wait
i love sgu and i think it was perfect and i truly hate syfy from the bottom of my heart for canceling this awesome show but exactly in this episode theres something that makes no sense for me... destiny can somehow magically foresee future problems which the crew will have to deal with like the air, the water supplies, parasites in the water so destiny drops of at a planet with some anti-venom but this ship cant detect that its own shuttle wants to return and slows down so it can dock?

This show was so super epic I don't see how they could cancel it. The music was just amazing!
RIP Joel Goldsmith :( loved both you and your father's work for Star Trek and Stargate.
By far THE best music fromANY film / TV show....simply....epic
@TheSponkomat exactly! They couldn't cope with the fact that someone had actually IMPROVED the original stargate idea and made it far more realistic.
Powered by the stars themselves! it should have been enough, seems we will never get the ending we, the ship, the crew deserve! still thanks Ales for the upload
@scifi75
Absolutely, this level of writing, I don't think I'll ever see it again. RIP Stargate.
They really need to resurrect this series, even if season 2 wasn't that great. the premise of the show is great!
Season 2 was the best.
Actually, season 2 was great. Because... it brought all the Stargate shows together. With that one clue... of a pattern in the chaos that only the Ancients were clever or advanced enough to discover. Personally, if they ever bring it back... I hope they go the route of introducing... a loop there.

@ the “Signal” that Destiny was built to investigate is still one of the most fascinating impetus in sci-fi tv in my opinion.
It's music like this that was part of why stargate universe was such an epic show.
WHY SO MUCH SGU HATERS? this show was epic ! just like sg1 and sga
i miss it so much bro! ):
So true!!!

@@5226-p1e hello, thanks for the reply. I still enjoy SGU, it reminds me of LOST series a lot with the flashbacks and character centered episodes

I love the part, when rush stand up and walks to watch, what happend or what didn't happen.^^
2:30 When I saw this part, I had shivers, when the destiny went into the sun...
and it still does :)
If they had leave sgu alone it would have become so big its the best and if they would listen they would not lose

I agree totally. Those episodes were the reason i got hooked. Cheers mate... I heard hints about season 3 and more.
Can you imagine how much money would they earn on releasing an OFFICIAL soundtrack for SG:U? I'd buy one for sure.
The destiny is a beautiful ship real

I have a cleaner version that isn't as amplified. Here. instaud.io/2aRP

@darkmagic1701 They cancelled it because most stargate fans just couldn't handle a show with real actors and a silly thing called a real story. :-/
does anyone know if someone did the soundtrack for when destiny passes through the atmosphere of the gas giant?? - that 1 was also great
even decent shows that last for 7 series do so by dumbing down in the later series
@Papatauenga First half of S1 was to drawn out. People expected action of Stargate not crying women. But after that it got better and S2 was awesome.

@Granyala Season 1 was what killed the show, IMO. Season 2 felt more like Stargate, and had better plots than Season 1,
