Due to Turkmen law, Olga had to return to Turkmenistan because her passport had expired only to find her 85 year old mother had been in hospital 2 weeks with a broken leg!
Meanwhile, our 8-10 rescue cats in our Istanbul home are being cared for by a resident son in law staying in our west Istanbul flat.
Cats are definitely a soothing and sometimes amusing addition to daily life. All the best, Paul.

I live alone with my lovely Siamese Yuki who will snuggle against my chest each night and purr me to a restful sleep. If I happen to wake during the night, she will then assume a watchful guard position nearby until I return to sleep. I'm elderly and hard of hearing so If I sleep through my clock alarm in the morning, she will take it upon herself to wake me up by poking me with her paws. She will even let me know if my tea kettle is whistling in the kitchen if I don't happen to hear it in the morning. It's almost like we have a wonderful telepathic link based upon the mutual respect and love we have with one another.

My mom had severe allergies and would not have a cat in the house. When I was in college, she reluctantly agreed to watch my cat over the summer. Long story short, she fell in love with him, and when I returned, did not want to give him back! She and my dad kept him at their house and loved him for the next 12 years. I adopted his son, and every summer he would spend time with my mom and dad and his father. My mom never complained of allergies to cats again! Since then, we have never been without at least one cat in the house.

Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful story.
So glad your mom agreed to take care of your cat.... and then they always fall in love with them.
Let me share my story with my cat Indi at the very beginning. It does have similarities with yours. When Indi decided to adopt me, I was travelling a lot for work and really needed support to take care of a 3 month old kitten that could not be left alone in my house when I was away. I asked my mom. She refused, she did not want to have 'an animal' in the house. No allergies, just did not feel like it.
I begged her, asked my brother and also my aunt (my mom has a very close relationship with her) to help me convince her take Indi in my parents' house when I was away. There was no need to convince my dad who was already totally in love with the furry meowing ball.
Cut a long tory short. She went from 'no way' to calling him 'my little Indi' and saying 'grandma loves you'.
Almost eight years have passed from those rocky initial months. When she comes to visit us now, she squats down and kisses him...

Yup, once you take up long-term cat-sitting status, you don't want to give your fur-baby back. In long-term cat sitting, a bond is formed that is painful to even contemplate breaking. My son never got his cat back either. He went into the army and couldn't take Biggles with him, so he became mine. I had him for 12 years. Biggles loved to sleep under the building I lived in during the summer. He ALWAYS CAME BACK HOME IN THE MORNING when he decided to get together with his friends under the building. He'd meow at my door in the morning for breakfast and we'd have our cuddles together. I miss him. He died of old age. He is the standard for the choices I made in deciding to adopt. I miss him.

Cats are amazing, they can clearly understand our emotional state and if needed they will come and support in their own way. Each cat has his own personality, which is like having a little person living with us, he may be in a mood to have fun, or he may want to be left on his own, he will let us know. AND cats are masters in communication, while we cant understand their meaws, we can usually clearly understand what they want, sometimes we can even translate what our cat just said. I love Cats!!!!

Tonight is the first night we’ve agreed to allow it. Hoss is now sleeping peacefully at the foot of the bed. After watching this, I’m going to get a towel for his spot tomorrow, so we can all sleep comfortably together. 😻💁🏻‍♀️

At 23 I never had but wanted a cat so went to shelter to get one. Found a gray tiger there and fell in love but while there discovered I was highly allergic and had to leave. Next day went back and got him and decided I would deal with itchy eyes not being able to breathe etc. Got Primatene etc. Gradually built up tolerance. Loved Jimmy for many years til he passed. Adopted a long hair calico named Fluffy. Again with allergic reaction worse than before. Loved her and finally built up tolerance. Now at 60 I have 5 cats and usually Tiger, Charlie, and Boo sleep with me. No longer allergic whatsoever. You can conquer it

It is precisely my experience too. It takes some time (and in my specific case, some actual physical suffering), but it is TOTALLY WORTH IT.
I am sure that there are very severe cases of allergies that probably cannot build tolerance, this said, most of the time it takes a little patience and a strong motivation.

Something within their slobber makes us react too it especially of you have asthma or ezcam... Having both I can understand the irritation. For me it wasn't as bad as ER just wheezing and rashes, it doesn't happen anymore... I still have cats maybe it's a tolerance thing that needs to be built up slowly 🤔

I had to ban her from the bedroom in the end, which really hurt me and distressed her. When she couldn't find me during the day, she used to say "Hello" as plain as day. Getting louder if i didn't answer. No kidding. I was so spooked when she first did it in the middle of the night. Sadly, in the end, we had to have her put to sleep as she was suffering. I'll never forget her, tho I have mother and daughter cats now. Love them to bits but Lucy was something special. I'll go and have a weep now, 8 yrs later.😢

My little baby boy, Lexi, 1,5 years old, Greek, sleeps with me most nights. Snuggled up against my back or my tummie. In the mornings, when I am slowly waking up, Chili, Italian, my 2,5 year old boy, joins the cuddle. He usually snuggles into my neck, drools on me (urgh) and purrs me awake. When I am actually getting up, my sweet 9 year old lady Misha, Rumanian, comes into my bedroom to say hello and get her morning cuddles. I just love my little trio and am so happy to take care of them and keep them save. They are all rescue kitties from southern countries in Europe. Animal welfare is very good in Germany, where I live (no shelters where animals are killed if they do not get adopted, a bit of support by the government, good communities to support those shelters with money and supplies and so on). So I started to adopt from Italy, Greek, Rumania... Animal welfare in those countries is not so well supported. My little trio is my family. And I will always support the massege: Adopt! Don't shop!

This qas an excellent video. I understand and knew this info , but that is because I have had cats most of my life , & yes , they could always sleep in bed with me when they chose. I have had my current cat for 21 years next month. And she gratefully , is still happy and healthy. She still can jump onto the bed and then hop over to her cat tree & then she climbs onto window sill so she can look outside. All of my cats have been indoor cats , but were allowed to go outside , on a leash of course.

She would wake up at 2am and wake me. Locking her out of the bedroom for several nights put an end to this. She learned to just stay beside me: both of us were happy.

I love how this video touts all these benefits of sleeping with a cat, and they're all reductions of problems that we deal with in the first place because we're starved for social intimacy. I love my cat, and she does make me feel better, but my/our relationship with my/our cats does not make the gaping hole in my life/our lives any less of an actual personal and societal problem.

I have two, a girl and a boy, they are siblings. The boy is the one who sleeps with me mostly every night, the girl sometimes. When I have both in my bed, one left and one right, this means heaven to me. Without even one, I am lying in my bed for hours and cannot sleep. Cats to me are the greatest miracle on our planet and I cannot imagine living without such a small tiger.

I grew up with a cat in the house. At 6 years old I became, literally, deathly allergic to her with asthma. To this day, I am incredibly allergic to them. In fact, I'm so sensitive to their dander, I can walk into a home that hasn't had one in it for over 10 years and still experience a reaction.
Despite this, I have one cat at home. It's a Bengal, and I have to be on three different daily medications in order to be alright. If I skip or forget any one of the three, I'll suffer the rest of that day. I love her to bits, though. So glad I have her!
Anyway living with cats doesn't necessarily make you immune to allergies or anything.

You may eventually grow immune. Not saying it is a given but your immune system may eventually adapt.

My cat currently sleeps on a cane chair next to my bed. The chair has a firm suchiin & warm sheep' s skin. He knows that is his special night spot. As soon as I am brushing my teeth, he is already watching me from his chair. He is an indoor cat and is such a lovely companion to me. I do put him in his pet stroller & we have walks. Then he loves sitting outside the front door in his carrier, in a loaf of bread position. I speak to him before going out and he is reassured I am not abandoning him.

The word "homeowner" has the word "meow" right in the middle of it. A home is not a home unless there is a cat living there. My cat sleeps with me every night - I can't imagine not having Seymour cuddled up in my arms. He's a gem.

I will always recommend having both dogs and cats. Both offer different benefits to their humans.
    Both have numerous psychological benefits.
Cat purrs have several medical benefits.
Dogs can help deter dangerous humans.
And both are known to warn their humans of danger. Fire, gas leaks, and more.

I've been sleeping with cats ever since I was a small child (and I'm 71 now). I confirm all the positive associations with this practice. The only downsides I've had are (1) fleas (at which point cats and bed both get flea treatment) and scratches as a couple cats may tangle with each other. I've learned to keep my face well away for safety. The other plus on the cat side - kittens need the sense of security. When I have kittens they always are snuggled up to me in bed - after all, I'm mom and that is natural. So I have to take care not to roll on them in the night.

When I was in my 20's, my allergy tests showed an allergy to cats. I went for about 3 yrs without one, but there was no significant change. I got a cat & told the allergy dr I felt my mental health benefitted & asthma didn't improve without, in any case. In my late 50's the asthma pretty much resolved. A cold or flu set it off real bad, but the rest of the time I was fine. The last 3 or 4 respiratory infections have not affected my breathing at all! During the time I've had cats back in my life, I've been cat mom to 7 cats.

I am convinced that cats have a place in our hearts, and when they go(as they must), they leave that space in our hearts for the next cat to come and save us. If we let them! We just need to be smart enough to allow it. 😻

When a cat loves you? YOU ARE THEIRS. And there is nothing quite like it in the world and any allergy they may produce, is fine by me, I'll take a pill, but lose their love sharing warm and comfey fur flying all over the place, wouldn't give it up for the the world.
