Extraordinary recording. Both Itzhak Perlman and the great BSO were at the very height of their powers. It could not have been easy for any soloist to go to Boston with this piece knowing full well that their concertmaster, Joseph Silverstein, himself one of the century’s greatest players, had made a landmark recording of the piece 13 years earlier. Perhaps it’s fitting that near the end of the last mvt is a brilliant duet for the soloist and concertmaster, which ,in this case, was non other than Silverstein.
Excellent playing - although I find it a bit “brutal” at times. I prefer the Silverstein - certainly as good technically, but far more musical and exciting without overdoing it.
