    Watching this has made me want to make hand lotion for my husband, now. Thank you for all the great info. In acknowledgment of the messy filling of the lotion bottles, I want to say that I deeply appreciate you showing the messes that happened as a part of your crafting process. I am very vision impaired, which makes all of these kinds of projects quite difficult, but I'm simply not happy unless I'm making things. Ultimately, that means I'm always making huge messes and nothing goes smoothly lol. Seeing you overfill bottles or spill soap batter on the counter, honestly makes me feel like less of a lost cause in my own crafting, which helps motivate me to keep trying and keeps my frustration in check. Seriously, thank you for that.

    I know this is an old video... But I was today years old that I learned that you can't put mica in lotion. 😂 But your lotion recipes are awesome! Lotions are a whole ass thing. I know they are awesome... But not my favorite to make. But thank you for the recipes. You are the best!❤

    Hello, when I put in the ounce quantities of each ingredient in WholesaleSuppliesPlus percentage calculator, I get: aloe vera juice (33.79 oz) 95.68% - mango butter (4.13 oz), 1.17% - karanja oil (4.06 oz), 1.15% - avocado oil (3.07 oz), 0.87% - emulsifier (2.05 oz), 0.58%, and stearic acid 1.94 oz), 0.55%.....is this correct?

      Hey! Those numbers look really off to me. This batch is roughly 48oz in total, so the percentages are as follows
      Aloe - 70%
      Mango - 8%
      Karanja - 8%
      Avocado - 6%
      Wax - 4%
      Stearic - 4%
      Have fun!

      Brambleberry currently has the best stock on extracts that I can find.

    I cannot afford karanja oil in Canada. Is there a less expensive oil I could replace it with?

      All over! 😂 Brambleberry will be fastest to get to you right now though, assuming they have any in stock. I use the NF from lotioncrafter, but have used many others from several other companies over the years and have no complaints with any of them. :)

    Lol, Speaking of drunken behavior... I no longer drink. Booze scented things don't bother me, because I don't have to choose to use those things. I mean, you're teaching us soooo many awesome options. I have wondered, though, about all this alcohol spritzing. I find hand sanitizer smells to bother me so much more than any social drinking around me. The soaps I have made, I just skipped the spritzing and told people the soda ash was proof of commitment to sobriety. But just for funsies, since I'm just having fun making gifts, does any other thing besides alcohol serve the purpose, chemically, that alcohol serves in soap making (like where it isn't an additive but it is serving a cosmetic function)?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  4 роки тому +2

      Hey! So since I soap at a pretty high water content, I get soda ash on almost everything if I don’t spritz. Witch hazel also works, but that also contains alcohol, usually. The soaps I make that contain citric acid don’t tend to get soda ash, which makes sense.
      The idea behind spritzing the top is thus: sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate (I forget which) is created when lye in your soap hits the air, so the alcohol on the top dries out the top layer before it occurs. To that, though, citric acid consumes lye, so I’m wondering if sprinkling the top with a bit of citric acid before covering the soap for its saponification thing would work. I’ll try it today; my first batch of soaps this morning are a bajillion dish soap blocks, so I will have loaves to test on that cure fast enough to see if it’s a genius soap hack or a terrible idea by the end of the day!
