The RCA CB's didn't have the greatest Tx audio but they had a smooth very agreeable receive audio. You could listen to the RCA's in your car or better in your base, for hours and never get operator fatigue. Not a brilliant design, but you could get like 30 channels uppers fairly easy and you could crank up the audio to like 120% mod. and still remain intelligible. So not great but they were a player in the CB scene circa mid to late 70's.
I liked these particular radios In their day they were very popular here in australia I still have 2 after all these years one is branded as an electrophone tx550 in 18 channel for the australian market and the other is branded as an american electronics 76-577 in 40 channel with extra channels both of tbese radios use the same board and chassis It's a bit unfortunate that there is nobody here in australia that can repair or retune these radios outside of the ham radio shops but as you know these people just thumb there nose up at us P.S I just found your channel last night and the video I found is the moded Cobra 138XLR nice radio I also have one of these too cheers
I have about a dozen RCA CB radios brand new in the boxes including 3 of these, 2 base stations (AM only), and assortment of others. Even an AM/FM/CB radio that mounts in a car dash and another type with all functions on the microphone. I believe the 14T302 was the only SSB CB RCA made. My uncle used to work at the big RCA plant which was the consumer electronics distribution center. I think all these CB's I have were liberated from that plant. They threw hundreds of them right into the dumpster eventually.
You are correct the 14T302 was the only SSB RCA as far as I know. At the beginning of my video I said "there were some SSB models as well" I should have been more clear that this was the ONLY version that had SSB. I'll add that to the description.

The 'Thumbs Down' is from a HAM operator ;-)
I cant stand hammies.
A CB from 1977 -- when "men were men" and "radios were radios". And for the record, I've been a ham for 40 years and I "liked" this video.
Do you actually think anyone cares what you think or like?
So glad you are doing videos again! 👍
cant believe how expensive this radios were back in the day
Love these old school radio videos. Thx

Good stuff. Thank you for continuing the videos
I have several 02A ssb chassis radios and a few am ones too. My tech turns his nose up to any 02a radios and i have no clue why.

@@skypilot0077 My uncle worked in the Harrison, NJ plant back in the day.
Here in Oz old 27Mhz CBs are selling for crazy money now. I have no idea why as the band is completely dead here.
