- Been wanting to make this Mordhau Guide for a while to teach newer players the basics and explain a bit about the culture of the game and rules of engagement, hope it helps - A lot of the mechanics in this video also apply to Mordhau console.

There is so much more stuff I wanted to put in but I was running out of space.
One thing I forgot to mention (somehow) is Kicks (F), if someone is feint spamming you, a well timed kick goes a long way, you can even feint a kick or check a kick but kicking at the same time.
Also the mouse control section might be a bit confusing but essentially:
If you only have a two thumb button mouse, bind all the right attacks and then have a completely separate button for 'Flip Attack Direction' which will allow you to throw the left.
Please don't be toxic; this goes to new players and veterans, people always say the game is a cesspit but really if you're nice most players are nice too and are willing to help you learn the game if you just ask. I know I'm not the best player in the world but I've had enough interaction with this community to put my way of playing forward.
Some extra things I wish I put in the video:
1. X or C + numbers are how you emote and do voice lines specifically
2. There are also a lot of ranged weapons and things you can throw like javelins (Im sad I left this out because my first 500 hours was pretty much just throwing stuff - dont let anyone tell you how to play the game)
3. I didn't go over the different weapon types but some are faster than others and they all have different stats, there are also shields which can increase your parry window - I think its more fun to figure this stuff out yourself although if you see a scim buckler, just run.
4. I also didn't go over how to deal with the ultra spinny folks but this is a beginner guide after all and I think it just comes down to reading and experience.
5. Watch their hands, not yours.
6. I wish I also added dodging/crouching to avoid swings etc but I'm bad at that too so you wont need that in the beginning.

Hi how do i riposte? I need to press the attack right after the parry button or i need to wait for the weapons to collide?
@@benq994 yeah press the attack button again as soon as they hit your block (the parry), you can only riposte off a block, you can't riposte if you parry into air

@@ninokaah1591 How could Mordhau have died? It wasn't updated or there was a bad meta or what?
@@ValeroLucky there where multiple factors. One of them was the high skill ceiling and players who where good at the game where the ones who mostly stayed so it became harder and harder for new players to join and get into the game.
Another reason was the lack of updates. Don't get me wrong a good chunk of the updates have been good, it's just that they took too long between eachother, making players loose interest. A lack of transparency between the community and the developers as to when updates would release also (understandably) annoyed a good chunk of the playerbase.
Because of the dwindling playerbase some parts of the community also got really toxic, especially the competitive scene.
Game also got a bad rep early on because some "journalists" meant it was a safe haven for racists and homophobes, but that's just false. I have 3k hours and the amount of decent human beings outweigh the bad by alot. Every game has their fair share of bad eggs.

I remember one time i kept pointing behind a guy endlesly just to make him turn around, first he was kinda just staring at me, suspicious, then we went through a shrugging phase, a fist shaking phase, cursing and polite antagonism but I kept pointing to his back. Finally, he turned back to see what was that I kept pointing and just in that moment someone threw a jabaline at the back of his head, boom, dead lol and the guy thought it was me who did it! His comarades facepalming, the rest laughing and this guy just drop in the chat: "I can't believe I fell for that lol". This game is awesome and kinda wholesome sometimes, in his own way.
i love the chaos of the big modes. started off, with javelin and bow. now im trying to learn the close combat.
seeing a chad, demolish 6 of my teammates, while i try to hit him with my bow and then getting demolished is for me just funny as hell. i played tarkov and was looking to prepare myself for dark and darker with mordhau. so far im having a blast.
This finally came out for consol and I was so so excited :)!!!! Then I realized just how bad at it I was... so I made a french frog and now just use the bear trap slide to hop all over the map and make people happy
from someone that just started yester day this is a great introduction on how to go into games and how to fight. great work Mookduke 👍👍

one of the keys to really disgusting animations are definitely binds. being able to not only choose direction but also animation variant (jpg or twisty) is a large part of it, so you can reliably do horizontal sweeps or overheads for example.

Great tutorial! I personally use a side mouse button for feint, but the idea of not having to sacrifice taking a finger of WASD keys is what's crucial for me. I think all new players should at least try to mess around with custom binds that works best for them, but really its all personal preference. Some of the best players purely use the 240p control scheme (no binds)

I truly felt mordhau as tf2 but in medieval settings, really steep skill ceiling. Also the same as it is kinda neglected by devs but the community is strong enough to keep the game going

Yeah I definitely could've been clearer for other mouse options as it does come down to preference but glad the Flip Attack side helped :D

The key bindings was a big help
I have 200 hours in this game and still never really got "good" at it. This is the best, most informative video ive ever seen on Mordhau. I had NO idea that you could bind the attacks, no wonder people are so god damn good lol
just got this game, instantly in love and way more in depth and less clunky than chivalry 2 AND WAY MORE MAPS!
I once tried playing dark and darker since it looked kinda like Mordhau and found out that it was Mordhau if the gameplay was god awful but hey the kids like Tarkov style game mode now

very useful video for someone starting from scratch. Free offer from Epic will definitely give new life to this game, now is also the perfect time to start playing this game, you can learn with new players, easy way. i think you should make more videos like the basics of combat etc, the game will be flooded with new players so this is also a good time for you to gather an audience, good luck on the battlefield, and remember have fun.

for the better players. If you like to see people get salty, join a deathmatch server with 2 players. Then proceed to FFA farm them into oblivion. Watch chat for profit.

oh if you find a good controller layout pls let me know! Tried it on my SD and even though it ran well, I couldn't hit much, fun to try with the gyro for drags tho!
@@Mookduke I'm completely new to this kind of game and it took me 15 minutes to hit the damn dummy when riding a horse in the tutorial, but I've been using the stock controls. Will definitely need to tinker and upload a community profile once I figure it out.

Hello sir i just started playing mordhau and i have a problem , i cant see my cursor.
Im kinda disappointed in myself for not buying this sooner. Old school PVK II and Chiv/Chiv 2 player. Rank 3 I'm already positive kills to deaths. Thank god for transferable skills. Very much fun and I enjoy the pace

how do you make a category in the mercenary category?
great video although personally i disagree with the keybinds. the Chiv 1 system with left alt being how to flip side is pretty simple and efficient. Q to feint is also fine where it is imo. it's what i use and have used since my days on chiv 1. i think by default the game has this control settings built in as a preset as 'classic' if other noobs want an alternative method. Playing with 240 is quite bad tbh.

Ive found that the new playerbase is super toxic, even playing as a bard everyone attacks you, usually followed by trashtalk in chat, however if you switch to a class with actual weapons and armour you get trash talked for being a tryhard. no winning with this game anymore
You get less of this in the smaller modes, big team battles I get its probably harder but I haven't played as much of it. Newer players always tend to kill bard because they don't know its a rule yet - I think the ppl that do just need to find the humour in the moments where you aren't fighting and that encourages less toxicity

check out mordstats.com its a good comparison site and will tell you all the stats you need to know, they are also in game but harder to find
I really want to learn to use the 240 system, because it feels fluid, but I have one thing that I don't find clear.
If I play with the 240 system, I can still chamber attacks by looking at the weapon of the opponent, right ?
For example, he does a left swing, I can just aim towards his weapon (my right side) and the chamber will happen ?
I find chambers a little confusing.
You can still chamber in 240 by doing the same “mirrored” attack as the mechanics of the game are the same, I think it will just require slightly more attention on your part as the player to make sure your weapon is going to queue the correct strike if that makes sense.
How do I unbind keys?
College exams starting and now epic game store gave this away for free, i tell you man.. this game is a lot of fun and addicting.. can't quit lol.

im playing with 160-180 ping and having fun :) no other choice for me :D binding for me turned out very hard so im playing with 240.
Damn, this game took parts of my soul, then remade them into something... strange. Not sure it was worth it to go to level 130, but I'm a changed man.
Small note: rather then saying gf (some people may interpret it as “get f####d), try saying wp instead, as it can’t be misinterpreted as something else and means “well played”

This should not affect bow or bandage, I'd reset to default and follow again if you are having trouble

when you click on the key you want to unbind, press delete

The mouse I am using in the example has extra buttons for left, you do not need to follow these binds exactly and can do whatever works for you. If you only have two buttons you can assign another key to 'flip attack side' to make swings from the left.

Im confused you have both thumb mouse buttons in use but you set one of them to H aswell hpw does that work?
On that mouse there is a third button
Heres at tip from me if you’re a low level playing horde STOP WAITING WITH THE NOBLE especially if you have all six players and your all low levels the noble is not a god you have to defend him by going further out in the field otherwise the noble gets bummed

Change your controls out of 240 and just have it on custom with your binds. Also make sure you’re hitting apply when redoing them.

How do you emote? I know I can bring up the bar that shows emotes, but numbers dont work at all.
Did I see you in a game earlier? I feel like someone else asked this and we couldn't find the solution. It might be worth asking in the official discord. Normally (in game) you just press C or X and then a number, you don't need to open chat or anything.
@@Mookduke Thats the issue, number. I had to already rework the settings so I can switch weapons, emotes still keep numbers.
@@janmoravek157 you should also rebind the emote and voicelines button, a new player friend of mine made me realise they are bound to F1 F2 etc by default it seems

Hi i only have one question why is mordhau better then chiv 2 or why it isn't? I watched a lot of videos on it but i still dont really now which worth more playing. I have both but im a bit torn on which game do i commit to.
To me Chiv is more casual and potentially easier to learn but nothing beats the feeling of control you get in Mordhau, not just combat but with general interactions using the emotes and voice lines. Mordhau is definitely harder than chiv but you feel a sense of improvement every time you and the skill ceiling is so high but not impossible so there is always a new challenge to reach toward.

Binds are entirely preference and no need for mouse apps I believe noobs do not feel afraid to use ur own binds ❤️

I joined a very cool server in my country with many " Elite Players" and i have to say, such cool community ( Brazilians and spanishs so far ). They were teaching new players, i did the tutorial yeah but im learning way more with other people, trully a hidenn gem of game, seriouslly the deathmath with 24 players in Arena were a total chaos and the master sort of... " summoned? " catapults? its been a while i didnt had so many fun in a game. Thank you epic games.
