It's a strange feeling. It feels like a validation-seeking activity sometimes, all these little numbing "dopamine hits". I feel so much better not checking all the stats several times a day 👌🏼
Great topic for a video. I’m always surprised when Ben does an excellent video like this and it doesn’t blow up. It’s depressing because most creators can’t make a video this good, and what is the incentive to do so when the algorithm is so hard to please. Balance seems to be a theme in this video and I couldn’t agree more. It’s the key to survival in life and it’s even more important on the internet. Ben’s thoughts on creativity vs consumption are also good. This ratio is different for every creator. Essentially it’s time management. A “partial” solution to the creativity vs consumption time management ratio is to make consumption more time efficient. Podcasting, commentary, streaming, talk radio, and simple human conversation…are popular forms of content for good reason. They are easier to create and allow the audience to multi-task while consuming the content. Content that compliments your life, rather than controls it, will make the content more popular. Both for creator and audience.
I can definatly relate with some of the things you said in the video. I am good at staying off social media, but for me it is the burnout. As a content creator i am always looking at new ways to create things and sometimes i get stuck which feels like i am disappointing my audience. Also i kind of feel like i have to stay in my lane in order to grow. I started sewing as well and i have a lot of ideas with that but i don't know if i should put it on the same channel or start another one🤔.
Ah yeah creator burnout is real 🥲 I’m all about branching out into different topics as I’ve talked about before, but it seems to confuse the algorithm etc. At the end of the day tho, do what makes you happy and try not to overthink it. Make what’s fun to make! I’d watch your sewing content, or really whatever you made, cuz I rly enjoy your chill personality and vibes in your videos. I think that’s more important than sticking to a niche.

"...constantly faced with how do I need to perform best for complete strangers..."
says so much.

I love the sleep function on my phone that turns the screen BW at a specific time. Thus scrolling is less colorful dopamine hit.
Ooh good tip! Gotta try that
