Great video, I just wanted to add, Do NOT wire your amplifiers rem to the radios 12v constant( typically the yellow wire )! this will cause your amp to be on when the car is off and drain your battery.
Thank for you advice. But really need to know, after connected both blue/white wires of after market radio harness and adapter for my car, where can I hook up the remote turn-on wire from after market Amp to ? Or do I need a T connector or what? Thank for help again. Appreciated.
I’ve been looking for this video for about a year and have been holding off paying someone hundred quid for about 2 months to do it myself and save the money. Fully sorted now thanks a lot
Thank you SO MUCH for your video. After spending 6 hours trying to figure out why I didn't have and sound and after taking my radio back thinking it was a bad unit, I was able to resolve my no sound problem in 2 minutes after watching your video. THANK YOU!
Excellent video! I bought my wife a Land Rover Freelander which has a factory Harmon Kardon amp under the drivers seat that I didn't even know about. I installed a new head unit and speakers as factory replacements, using the correct (and only) Metra radio wiring adapter and dash kit. Head unit powered on, no sound. There's no mention of this in Crutchfield where I bought my adapters and connectors for this install so I did some internet digging and found out there's a hidden factory amp and it's obviously not powering on now. So thanks to this video and very detailed explanation and a schematic on another site showing the remote turn on pin for the factory amp, I am going to splice an inline fuse between the remote wire coming out of the factory amp plug and the rear 12V lighter adapter that sits at the back of the center console for rear passengers so it turns on when my key is on.
I just hooked up my remote wire to the 12v cigarette plug. Works fine since the plug is only on when the car is on. Just make sure to hook it up the the + terminal(the tip)... The remote wire just tells the amp when to turn on so it doesn't drain the car battery.
Thanks for making this video! I'm using an automotive class D amplifier for non-automotive use, and the instructions with the amp just said: "Connect the REM terminal to the remote control wire from the head unit with 18 AWG wire." Well, I don't have a head unit; I just needed to know what to do with the REM to turn the stupid thing on: tie to 12V? to Ground? to one or the other through a resistor? Thanks to your tutorial, I felt confident in connecting it directly to 12V, and it came up as expected. Thanks again for supplying information the manufacturer didn't see fit to include in the stupid manual!
Some dumbasses think that because they know one thing, it's a crime not to know what they know. That just means that you know one thing and the rest of your life is shit. Thanks for the educational video.
Yeah, I always hate it when people are condescending to me when I ask questions and am trying to learn something. I tend to not ask them any questions about anything again.
I read on a forum that someone plugged their remote turn-on wire into their remote control jack! Yes it was a bare wire plugged into a jack but you still can't blame him for putting the REMOTE into the REMOTE lol... I think the terminology should be changed
Great Video. I just stumbled across it. I knew there was a different way to power the amp. Took my car to an audio shop to install my sub. I was told they couldn't find the ignition wire to power the amp on my 2019 X7. Nothing against the shop. They're old-school, as they were struggling with a 20 CTS. I will do the installation once I get the wiring diagram.
Isn't it better to connect the remote wire to a fuse (by using a fuse tap) if your factory stereo doesn't have a remote wire to connect to? Problem with connecting to acc or ignition is that you can get a surge of signal when you turn on your car to acc or ignition that could damage the amp and/speakers.
On my head unit it is the red wire and also the orange one......all it does is power on the head unit when the vehicle is either started or put in accessory mode......One note is that your yellow constant power wire(to battery +) is running your head units clock, settings saving,etc...
I know time has passed but for anyone else to see. The answer is "the less the better". I just hooked the one end of the remote turn-on wire on a 15A fuse [(which was for the radio) has 12v on ACC and IGN] on the passenger compartment fuse box.
I did this and the wire got hot. But didn’t burn up and worked. Good thing I used solder and heat shrink. Also, when I connected the remote to antenna wire, my amp wouldn’t produce power to sub for first minute or so after each start up. But it works!
Hey, I have a quick question. I currently have 1 amp for 2 subwoofers. I want to add another amplifier for the mids and highs I will be getting soon. Will I need to run another remote turn on wire to that amp as well? Do I just split the blue/white wire into two so I have one for each amplifier? Sorry I'm new at this and I want to do it right.
I punched into my blue wire with my remote wire in my amp. And obviously it wouldn’t turn on. Was so puzzled. Watched this, and now I’m gonna look for a blue and white wire. Thanks :)
So i bought my new deck and connected the blue white wire from the new deck to the wire harness i bought. I just bought an amp and i don't know where to connect the remote wire since the blue white is all ready connected to the wire harness. Should i connect all 3? Do i connect the blue white from the deck to the wire harness and also to the amp remote? I disconnected the blue white wire from the wire harness and just connected the blue white from the deck to the remote to the amp but my speakers wont work now. I'm thinking i need to connect all 3 wires together
Hi good video!! question Can i connect two amplifiers and one epicenter to the same remote wire or is too much? So far i have connected two amps only and the lights inside dimm a lot when the base hits.
Hey Al, If i connect the white-blue wire to the blue antenna wire and i don't listen to the radio can i go directly into the antenna 12v? or can i splice into the red ignition switch wire since it is not the constant. being that i dont have a factory amp power wire.
thanks for the info...it makes me clear to understand about remote wire and how to determine the color of the remote wire at the back of the stereo panel...thanks a lot once again...Edgel Tm
My Chinese Android head unit has no "AMP" remote turn-on wire, but it has an "ANT" wire made to power old motorized radio antennas. This ANT wire provides a voltage of 12VDC with respect to the GND wire (only when the radio is turned on, but there is a dedicated pref in the factory settings to make it powered all the time when the head unit is on). My question is: can I use this ANT wire as a remote turn-on wire for the amplifier?
Can I just use one of them connectors that taps into that and connect the other wire at the end? Is that the only wire I need is just that one? Find the aftermarket radio aftermarket amp
hey Allyn thanks for the great video. I have been trying to narrow down the cause of 'no sound' on my Lexus LS 460 mark levinson audio system is it the same principle as this or is there any other thing that I'm missing. Its still not delivering audio. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. Question... Is it possible to use an amps remote turn on wire to power other devices (splice into and wire off of the blue white wire)? I need constant power to a rear camera when the car is on and this remote wire is the only line i have run to the rear or my car.
I have a problem.. so when I put my remote wire and positive wire in the right place where they are supposed to go it doesn’t work but if I put my remote wire in the positive place and the positive in the remote wire place it works perfectly fine is this safe or no?
So given this blue white wire is hooked up. If the car stereo is hooked up to accessory power. You turn ignition off and remove key. It turns the stereo off. Does that turn off the amplifier too? Any chance of problems sometimes and that amp stays on? Because Im getting a battery drain somewhere . Im using an aftermarket unit with a harness adaptor hooked up the factory amplifier. EVerything works fine except for that battery drain.
I have a question regarding the remote wire. I was listening to my music and subs were hitting hard then all of a sudden my amp shuts off. I assumed the remote wire got loose maybe so i checked the remote wire being the unit and it was fine. No power to amp at all. So then i jumped the remote wire and the battery cable on the amo and it turned right on. The remote in back of my head unit would not turn it on. While it was bridged the music play and as soon as i turned it up the subs would cut in and out. I can't figure out what the problem is. Is it my remote wire not being connected to my head unit? It wouldn't power on that way for some odd reason. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks All!
please tell us what solved your problem with your amp shutting down- was it a problem with you remote amp turnon wire as you suspected - your post was 2 years ago, but many have the same problem.
So my Golf MK4 needs it's antenna amplified. But I only have a blue/white cable. Could I just try to hook the blue/white one on the an antenna amplifier? Would it keep giving 12v?
Installing an amp today, this was the one step I missed 😂
Me too I killed my battery 😐
Me too. Amp wouldn’t turn on and I panicked about it for a hour and a half till I found this video . Ganna fix it in the morning
Same and I hope my battery is full tomorrow
Or I put a new
This forgotten step is the epitome of my current install

This was the most helpful video I’ve found. Thank you so much. This was extremely detailed for people who aren’t super savvy with car stereos lol
Congrats man! The video went directly to the point, but still managed to be quite detailed. Keep it up.
nearly a decade later. this info is still helpful for head units with touch screens and phone-play. thank you

I was struggling to find a remote wire and hooked up to the antenna after watching this video!! Sub's are working!!!! Thank you!!!!
Yes, i was confused as my stereo has no remote wire. But it has antenna out, it should work.
@@jayjwin1178 did it?

Can you split the remote turn-on wire and feed 2 amps with it? Or run one remote turn-on wire and loop it out to the second amp if it is closeby?
Thanks bud was looking around for 45 min online until i fell on this and figured it out right away
