Look let's not compare, let's forget it and move on. He and the new crew made it in a new whole thing but no one can beat the trio. So this might appeal new audience and that but that's something else entirely.
Also part of the reason was their producer Andy Wilman who had a different format for the old one

So... Ive just sat through 17:59 of a video about 2 cars which couldn't pull the skin off a cup of warm milk - but enjoyed every minute and would watch you guys discussing whose wall is drying faster whilst having a beer after painting a room! Brilliant!
Please continue to film Chris doing other car things, for us proper car people.

2cv’s are massively underrated vehicles. My friend had one as a field car 35 yrs ago, we had the maddest times over stubble fields and it refused to roll. Relentlessly economical too... thanks Chris and Andrew, this put a proper smile on my face.

It's almost like having Hammond and May back, bickering about rusty old cars no one gives a toss about, but yet it you can't help but watch and laugh
This was brilliant. Would love to see them race around Millbrook to see whos got the highest top speed. And what about going dyno runs with them or more indepth engine comparisons

Probably the best display of banter-lined sportsmanship that I have ever seen.
They really don't care who wins - if the other guy does, it's due to decades of history, to the car having worked harder or it just having a bad morning.

As an American, with an absolutely terrifyingly fast 29hp example, I can't agree more. There aren't many on this side of the pond, so it's an oddity.
I own several old cars (muscle cars, sports cars, old trucks, an immediately post-war Cadillac), the little 2CV puts more of a smile on your face than almost anything. Mine is a 12v, RHD British export model, snuck in around the US regulations in the mid 70s (it's a '67.) Not a ripple bonnet like these, but still a lot of fun.
Driving a 2CV is actual driving. Keep the revs high, bang through the gears, listen to the little motor scream, and get up to 40 MPH, but it sounds like you're doing 120. Throw it into a corner, laugh as she leans.
It's actually, even at fifty years old, a great automobile. Practical. Reliable. Comfortable. I'm not trading the E-Class estate (flying boot for you guys across the pond) for it daily, but it's an incredible car.
And just like these guys, it's one car that's not ever for sale. Ever.
I've imported and sold a few. Until her last day in production, she could be hand cranked. Last production car that could be....

On your end of year car award video I left a big long rant-y angry reply about how the show just needs to be Chris Harris doing anything he wants and everyone will love it. I see you have done exactly that and everyone indeed loves it, exactly as I expected they would. This video was fantastic, pure joy, the best thing Top Gear has released since Jermey Clarkson. Please do not return to regular scheduled programming, fund this kind of stuff with the whole budget and Top Gear will once again the worlds most watched, most beloved television program. Thanks for taking my advice, you can hire me if you want to make lots and lots of money. Cheers.

This is better than the entire latest TG series
I had a couple of 2CV's Start on the handle easy enough in warm weather doing a demo but if its cold wet and the battery is low, forget it!
I once saw a 2cv dong 30mph down the road and he obviously hadn't seen the speedbump looming up ahead.... was he going to take off ? what was going to break ?..........absolutely nothing .....the body stayed level, the wheels popped up and down while going over it and he carried on as if it wasn't there.... awesome....

Forget the City Car Cup, what the world needs it more "2CV in a paddock" racing. That paddock looks big enough for a circuit!
We also have a miniature bull terrier, the sound of the dog yelling followed immediately by a person worriedly yelling at the dog is a familiar one 😁

Chris looked like he was having SO much fun!...having ridden in a clapped out 2CV, worked on the one, I find the utter minimalist designs a breath of fresh in this Obsessive, Compulsive, manic world of cars.

Love 2CVs, but I do remember following one frequently on the hill from Marlow to Booker, and the 50 cars behind. And yes, the young lady behind the wheel did lean forward.
as a teenager my father was a physics prof, occasionally a grad student would bring over to the states his car, and then find it wasn't worth bringing it back, so they ended up in my grandfather's barn and me with the keys. Old Mercedes, an xke, mini, but the 2CV was the gem. would drive em till I couldn't get parts.
You gotta make a series out of this. Just brilliant entertainment 👍🏻
There is not many things or people on UA-cam that I'd rather watch than Chris Harris talking about cars, any car. Well, one of those things is that adorable Mini-Bullterrier that lives in that yellow Porsche. Owing one of those myself and a Lab I know exactly what is going on off camera with those two dogs. I had one just like it in the Netherlands back in the 70s. I remember on a trip to the South of France the car would slow down when going up the mountains and then gathering speed on the way down. Brilliant.
