    Hey Marielle!! Thanks so much for this video it made me very happy to see someone with your insight break it down. I have to say I agree with pretty much everything you said and I do wish to have worded some things better. I did do this to get out of my comfort zone because I do rely on way too many convenient processed things like the protein snacks you mentioned, and it really has changed my approach towards cooking and hopefully inspired others too. Anyways, just subscribed to your channel!

      Hi Kevin,
      I'm glad you were willing to step out of your comfort zone! I've been watching Totally Forkable since she started her channel, and you are in for some quality vegan content. I think you have a real opportunity here to inspire many of your audience to step out of their comfort zones, too. I hope you keep incorporating more plant-based foods into your repertoire, because I think there is a real lack of content from non-vegans about how to do plant-based cooking in an efficient, affordable, and fun way. Please continue your journey! I really like your energy and on-screen personality. I can see why you have so many followers!

      I have an idea, ask your grandparents or parents what they used to eat growing up. Because almost every society that is "meat heavy" now wasn't eating meat daily 50/100 years ago. More like once a week if not less. But the meat was a celebratory dish that took time, like for a Sunday roast etc. or ordered in a restaurant for a celebration. So old fancy recipes and restaurants don't actually depict the food from that society and in your instance from Romania :)

    the argument that we rely too heavily on processed foods kinda baffles me tbh. what do ppl think a hot dog or cheese is if not processed? i know we're taught to uncritically stick to what we know, but it really does blow my mind how these same ppl that wont eat impossible meat will eat pepperonis, deli meats and "ground beef" with no issue? how can it not register to them.. that stuff is also processed? and extremely so, more-so than plant based alternatives could ever be...it takes a lot to turn a being into a product

    11:43 Cooking plant proteins is SO MUCH EASIER than animal ones!! Haha. I mean HUGE deal that you don't have a bunch of different cooking temperatures to remember just to make sure your animal flesh isn't still too raw to eat or it might kill you. 🙄 God I love no longer having blood and bodily fluids all over my kitchen, utensils, and hands.

    I watched Kevin's video and found it charming. The trained cook usually enjoys the challenge of plant-based cooking, and he seemed to. There was so much hostility to his experiment in his comments, though, holy cow! I mixed it up in that farts convo, LOL. Terms that need to stop being used: Fake meat, mock meat.
    Terms to use instead: Vegan meat, Plant-based meat.
    There are times when plant based meat is made to replicate the look of flesh, but usually not, they're just cylinders, pucks, and nuggets, deli slices, etc. Doesn't mean it's a "fake" anything or that it's a "mock" of something else, nono, its the superior version and it's it's own thing since it's 100% made from plants. When people say "fake meat" They are making it seem as if the food is fake and it's quite the opposite! The flesh people eat is an optical illusion, fake, it's actually a hacked off body part, sometimes several body parts from different animals blended up! They remove the eyes and ears and people pretend sausages grow on trees. Nothing gets more fake than that. We don't have to LIE about where our food comes from! THEY DO!

    • @v_zach

      You're absolutely right!! I think those terms are better but I do admit I say "mock meat" often bc I'm a sucker for alliteration and it rolls off the tongue 😂 And 💯 on meat being an optical illusion. It's a very long "process" to go from an animal to a finished meat product, but because it has fewer ingredients it's somehow better? 🤔

    Experimenting with food and cooking new things takes more time. This isn't a plant-based thing. Plus most veggies either don't have to be cooked or fully cooked, unlike chicken, pork and other meats which have to be fully cooked to kill all the harmful (💩) bacteria on/in them.

    "I'm not a bitter America suffering from the stagnancy and isolation inextricably linked to living in a car-dependent culture." Can relate. 😂 Off topic, but have you heard of California Forever? Basically a few billionaires bought some land in Northern California and want to build a walkable city. I hope it gets built and it goes well.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  2 місяці тому

      That sounds interesting and also slightly dystopian 🤣 I saw a video recently of a woman visiting a similar type of development. It was cool but also something about it felt a bit clinical and depressing--mostly the fact that we have to create these pockets because we've stripped livability from most of our cities and towns. I sort of wish billionaires would focus more on making public transit/spaces more accessible instead of focusing on Utopian bubbles that I imagine only the elite will be able to experience, but maybe I'm oversimplifying the issue! This is a topic I'm super interested in but still very much learning about!

    Field Roast sausages taste far better than any non-vegan sausage you can find, they are not comparable other than the shape, which has nothing to do with anything other than it's a good shape to eat, and you can make a hot dog with it, which does not have to involve killing animals. It has nothing to do with replicating a dead animal. People honestly think there is a hot dog shaped animal or something?? Do they even know what non-vegan hot dogs are made of? I'd much rather just eat a hot dog made 100% from plants instead of murdered pig anuses. Also, "meat" (flesh) is not unprocessed, it's filled with preservatives so the flesh doesn't decay, it's dyed so it's not rotten and dead looking, and it has to be cooked to a certain temperature to not kill you. Dairy is pasteurized and processed so it doesn't kill us.
    Non-vegans love processed "food" filled with corpses and secretions.
    I am really tired of the demonization of plant based meat! It's literally just one potential of what plants can do! We can make meat from plants, we can make burgers from plants, hot dogs, nuggets, etc. And there's nothing wrong with that because it's not a murdered baby animal. And again, field roast sausages don't taste like pig anus sausages, they taste far better and they're made from plants, it's not replicating something rather giving an alternative to the cruel one. I don't even like the word "mock-meat" It's not a mock. The meat animal abuse industry does not own a monopoly on cylinders, pucks, and nuggets. These are just shapes that we can shape anything into. We can make plants more meaty, less meaty, and it's still plants.
    We can make black bean burgers, we can make beyond burgers, neither are more or less moral choices or ethical choices. And still, both are far more healthier than eating flesh, and actually ethical unlike the animal abuse version.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes you make so many interesting points! When you break it down logically it's a no-brainer, but most people have a knee-jerk reaction to unfamiliarity. Their brain is telling them "stick to safety" (aka pig anuses 🙃). It will take time to break that stigma.

    Regarding the processed foods commentary, I read that a bit differently. I saw it more that (as most of us should) he generally doesn't want TOO many processed foods in his diet - he likely knows that there are some already via the noted fridge & pantry items, but I think most people see that as moderated by the non-processed main course items they eat. So to replace non-processed meats with processed vegan meats shifts that balance away from moderation.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes I see what you're saying. He actually responded that he had his own judgments about his consumption of the processed foods shown and hoped his experimentation with vegan eating could be a break from processed food altogether.
