To be fair, the best tomato pies i’ve had in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts have all had at least a dusting of pecorino romano; I imagine this is what he meant by “cheese”

@@jman3081 His scoring system has the biggest jump in quality between those 2 scores. A place with mediocre pizza but has history, a nice owner, and a nice interior will get a max 7.9, but never an 8.1. When he scores something an 8.1 it's a legitimate great pizza.
After all these years, I still don't understand why Dave doesn't open the box as soon as he gets out to let the pizza start cooling off so he doesn't burn his face off. And it would be an opportunity to get a close-up image of it so we can all see more clearly what it looks like.

1) That green box looks phenomenal.
2) I dig the hell out of the old school chairs out front. Such a classic summer throwback of childhood.
3) The previous pizza place - Astro - had a small town, year round towny feel, which was nice, but the pizza was pretty lousy. (because it was a small town, year round towny feel.)
4) Cantaloupe Italian ice. Dude! That rocks.
5) Cheese pies here are $32. Oof! Time to hit the frozen pizza section at King Kullen (grocery store) instead...
I just ate a huge meal, yet the sight of this pizza still made me hungry. That thing looks so good!

@@SCOOPFREE Another one of his hilariously blown calls. This one looked doughy and a tinge undercooked compared to Brooklyn. Again, a good looking pie, but this was done under pressure IMO.
The Brooklyn one had more char on the crust but could have been undercooked in the center, the underside of the second pie had char near the center.

Its ridiculous that crisp is the only thing that can elevate Dave's scores. He needs to branch out. Any pizza place can keep their pizza in the oven for an extra 5 minutes when Dave pops in. And not to mention flavor is hardly a factor because this guy only eats cheese. I watch every video because I think Dave is an entertaining guy, but his reviews just arent that applicable to the average person who doesnt base a pizza on its undercarriage and a pizzeria off of a cheese slice 😂

@nicholaskraut1704 Well, he bases flavor on the basic cheese pie, not ingredients that may change the flavor profile. If you can't make a decent basic pie, piling it with ingredients shouldn't matter. 🤷♂️🤦♂️🙄
@@tommymas1 Not exactly true, the sauce profile might be tailored to complement a pepperoni slice (79% of Americans think pizza is better with pepperoni on it) so eating it plain wouldn't do it justice.

I live in a small town outside of Dallas, and there is a pizza place that's run by some guys from Brooklyn. Thank God it's there, because Texas doesn't have pizza figured out yet.

Rodriguez farms in Watsonville has the best strawberries in the world. Not sure they ship to Brooklyn, but you can get at farmers markets throughout the bay area. So good.

If you're still in upstate NY go to SLICES of Saugerties. When you get back to Brooklyn go to Nino's Pizzeria on 92st 3rd Ave. Both are my favorite pizza spots hands down for their impeccable cheese slice. Everyone knows the pizza.

Amagansett is a town on eastern Long Island. Less than a week ago Dave said all pizza on Long Island is the same and wasn't impressed. Yet he scores this one an 8.1.
They have huge farms out there. Why wouldn't he use local fruit from like lewins farms, or some of the organic farms out there?

In the end. Dave truly wants to help good businesses, especially smaller ones. I respect the guy for everything he’s done for them. When I got out of the Army I started cooking. It was my passion as a child, then Covid hit. I saw Dave helping so many during Covid. I appreciate him so much and hope he comes back to Atlanta, I’d love to meet him.
Yeah he helped alot of ppl get through covid, his unboxing and frozen reviews kept me sane honestly during the lockdown . Plus he was doing the bar stool fund for struggling businesses. For a someone wealthy he's atleast out doing some positive shit and helping the small family owned places .

That tomato pie reminded me of when I went to Sallys in New Haven, which is one of his highest rated ever. I also would want at least a little cheese on it, that being said, I found Sallys of New Haven quite overrated. It was good, but not worth getting off I-95 and spending almost 2 hours finding parking, getting inside, waiting for it and eating it, sorry Dave, it was good, but far from the best I’ve ever had personally.
