LOL - on the Scene outlook. I see the same on the Virginia By-Way. Also on wildlife, I see signs in our area for bear crossing and I never saw bear or red fox while driving down US 70 or US 64 in Eastern North Caroline.
We crossed few weeks ago,we show the passports, answer few simple questions, and then get in. I know many more countries more difficult at their border, the custom officer at the Alaska border asked more questions
We did too, to bad we had to go forward! The weather and the views in Seward…wow! And that beach view we had, close by in another campground, is indeed fabulous! Great job on the videos in Alaska! The adventure of a lifetime for us French Québécois following you for a while now! Enjoy the way back home. Safe driving :-) Remi
Jason, and Abby Thanks for explaining the real story about how EZ-Lube axles are greased at the factory. We have a 2020 GeoPro TT, purchased used in 2021. Wheels were rolling fine, but for preventative maintenance I greased the bearings this summer using a hand-pump grease gun. I did note that it took a lot of new grease going in before any old grease came out. Now I know why. BTW, we have a horse trailer that does not have EZ-lube axles and the procedure to grease those bearings is labor intensive and messy. I'll look for EZ-Lube on any future trailers that we consider for purchase.
We used that sticky shelf mat stuff in strips under our mattress. It helped a lot. We also installed a bookcase at the end of the bed which held the mattress from sliding the other direction. The bookcase, of course will depend on space. Used “L” brackets to attach the bookcase to the platform under the bed. We could still get to the storage u dear the bed, too!
If your looking for ideas to keep things where there supposed to be when travelling, talk to people that own large sailboats. I'm 74 and still single hand my 34 ft. boat. With the normal amount of heeling when underway (not exceeding 20 degrees), from side to side, you quickly learn how to stow things and what products work best. Some of these non skid mats and such can be purchased at most chandleries but an outlet dedicated to RV owners would probably be cheaper.
I actually camped next to a family that had a wheel on their trailer seize as the limped into the campground…..he spent the next day packing the bearing with grease….
Jason I am with you about the laziness of people shortening words that don't need to be. One that really bothers me is prescriptions shortened to scrips.
I was thinking of what you guys said about names I would say whatever Nick name you both like. I would choose anything you didn’t like. Abby you had me laughing when you were talking names and then Jason said bearings. You both are so funny! You make my day! Lol! 😂😂
I too stayed at a HH close to the Canadian border. It was a Saturday night. Sunday am my motor home battery died. I got a jump start and headed toward the border. The border agent asked me to turn off my rig and I told her I could not. Unless I could get a jump. She was not happy. I explained that I was heading directly to buy one in Abbotsford, where luckily I located a Jiffy Lube kind of place that had one. The agent asked the questions and sent me on my way..
We also stayed at Petals and Blooms before we crossed the Canadian border about 2 weeks ago! It was so fun to hear you talk about it there. That was our first Harvest Host and it was a good start for us. Abby I also handed the agent our passports with them open to our photos. Our crossings both ways went great. Being prepared definitely helped.
We've discussed the whole mattress thing ourselves and have seen matts you can put between the platform and mattress that allow air to flow between them and add traction as well. We don't know a single person who has tried this tho! LOL! If you find the answer please share!
What a beautiful scenery in the back ground and glad you are meeting up with some old friends. I love that. Sound like fun too! Sad you are saying good bye for now to Jamie and Clay! Hopefully you’ll be able to hook up again. Tell them hello fir me and I wish them well on their travels.
How did you answer any "are you here to work" questions? Tax and immigration laws seem out of step with remote realities, so is it possible to comply while enjoying Canada travels?
"Working" to Customs means taking a Canadian job. It's very hard to get a work permit there. There's also tax implications for both countries! Remote work is still mostly too new for the laws to address. What a can of worms! And you just admitted, on the record, to lieing to an official. You may have some more questions next time you cross. 🙃
GOOD JOB. Hehehe The last time we went to Canada, I have a combat veteran sticker on my window. I got drilled for 15 minutes about firearms and if I had any. Like, when was the last time I touch a gun, have I ever had guns in my truck, guns in my RV. And was ask 5 times, do you have any firearms. Maybe I look like a fool. Anyway, NO SEARCHES. AND FINALLY she said, have a nice visit with a smile
That background!!! WOW!!! Your off topic rabbit trail conversations are so entertaining. lol! I also love nicknames and have multiple nicknames for each of my kids. But, one of my pet peeves is when people I barely know or in a business setting immediately shorten my name from Stephanie to Steph or Stephi. It just feels really disrespectful and slimy from a salesman! Highly recommend Ally Bank. We've used them for almost a decade and they've been great. Currently 4+% on savings. ATM fees are reimbursed. We've had our debit card numbers stolen a couple of times and Ally was super easy to work with. We also use a local credit union and easily transfer money between them and Ally.
Great coverage of the border crossing. Entering Canada in June 2022, the border agent asked where we were headed. I handed him an Excel spreadsheet that detailed our planned 88 nights in the country. We had provisioned in accordance with Canada’s rules and used the ArriveCan app. We were respectful and courteous at the border crossing (Port Huron / Sarnia), and had no issues entering Canada. Coming back into the USA (as a US citizen) isn’t really any different. Just accept that your “rights” as a US citizen don’t really take effect until the border guard admits you to the country. BTW: One of the big misunderstandings is with respect to how much alcoholic beverage you can bring into the USA from Canada. There is not a 1,500 ml (two standard 750 ml bottles) hard limit on wine. The 1,500 ml limit is for duty free. You can bring more in, but you might be charged an import duty at the discretion of the border agent. We brought in more and were not charged. There is also not a fixed maximum amount you can bring, but if you try to bring “too much” (in the opinion of the border agent) they might get suspicious of whether it is really for personal use or you plan to supply it to a restaurant or bar, or sell it (illegally). We confirmed all of this in person with the USA border agent when crossing from New Brunswick into Maine in September 2022.
Border Crossing: The first thing should be to remove sunglasses and hats before you reach the cameras. The list is correct. Also Snowbirds, the agents may not ask for it, but if you don't have a travel kit, with supporting documentation to prove you live where you say you live and can financially support the length of time in the country, you can be denied. Do not bring cash except what you need to fill one gas tank's worth; it can and has been seized by Federal, State and Municipal police. The amount seized averages only $400 USD.
We went to a gas station in the USA, bought some booze and they asked for our driver's license and tried to scan it, I thought that was weird and not secure. Just to buy booze. Also could not believe they took our debit and credit card away when buying someting. In Canada we do give our debit card to anyone, only supposed to be used by the owner. And nobody knows how much booze I buy. FREEDOM.
On the issue of banking, Schwab checking accounts refund ALL ATM fees, so it is a great place to use anywhere in the world (they also do great kids' investment accounts - both my kids had Roth IRAs there at age 15). Looks to me like they have offices in 48 states, so would pass your lost wallet test as well. Wells Fargo is way too (literally) criminal to justify ever having your money there.

Thanks! It's bittersweet to leave. We just began the journey home this morning.
Thank you for visiting Canada, hope you had fun. As a home sick Canadian living abroad thanks. Come back.
We are already planning a return trip to the east of the country. We have loved our time in Canada. -A

In the US, liquor stores and bars can scan IDs to verify age. It's not to track you, but I could see how it could be abused pretty easily.
